If your summer holiday is nothing but a distant memory and a couple of idyllic Instagram snaps, fear not. You can always plan a short city break with some friends or your other half to give yourself something to look forward to (Christmas is still too far away to get excited about!). Here are out top five city breaks!

Barcelona
This city has so much character, and it’s probably even better to go around this time of year as during the summer it is VERY hot and if you’re like us, you may not be able to deal with big crowds and big heat! If you go there, make sure to find some of the traditional Spanish bars away from the touristy spots – they are really pretty, and much better value!

New York
If you have some money to spend and plenty of holidays left to take, why not jet over to The Big Apple before the Christmas rush? We would definitely go if we got the chance, imagine all the clothes, and food! Heaven!

Paris
Ah, the city of love. Climb the Eiffel Tower, eat some snails, whisper sweet nothings into your lovers ear – but whatever you do, don’t get over excited if your boyfriend bends down to tie his shoelace!

Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a brilliant city to explore any time of year. It’s got so much history, and more importantly, great shops! If you’re looking to go somewhere that doesn’t take too long to get to, this is the perfect option!

Lisbon
If you’re not a fan of the heat, but you’re quite fond of Portuguese culture, then Lisbon is a great option. It’s Europe’s second-oldest capital city next to Athens, so it has plenty of history – not to mention style. And once you’re done you can relax on the beach and watch the sunset. How much more perfect can you get?

We know just how this little (ok, massive) guy feels.

Dinky the Great Dane throws an epic jealous fit of rage when his owner pays too much attention to his brother.

He howls, he groans and eventually he gets so fed up he throws himself down in defeat.

Too. Funny!

You may never have thought about using a matchmaking service, but in the words of Jordin Sparks, "love is a battlefield". Which is why it can help to have someone who isn’t emotionally involved on your side when it comes to finding Mr. Right. If you were on the fence about signing up to one of these services, here are some points that might just convince you to go for it:

Your dates are screened
Matchmaking services are different from online dating as there is an actual person screening your dates, so you have less chance of finding yourself sitting across from the weirdest guy in the whole wide world.

You can be assured that you have things in common
Your matchmaker will be sure to set you up with someone who has similar values and expectations as yourself. This is a huge benefit, as there is nothing worse than coming across the most perfect guy ever and realising he never, ever wants to have a family when that’s something you really want from life.

Speed
Instead of having to spend hours scrolling through a long list of guys you don’t fancy just to find one half decent guy, you can spend your time doing something much more fun, because you’ve paid your matchmaker to do that for you!

Cost effective
A matchmaking service may be costlier, but there is a better chance of meeting someone special as it is tailored specifically to you. Besides, by the time you pay to sign up to all the different online dating sites, and then spend money going on unsuccessful dates, it could even work out cheaper!

The internet is still only in it’s infancy as a medium of communication, and it’s when you actually look back at these trends that you realise how strange a place it really is! Strange, but seriously funny! Here is the 10 funniest trends that the internet has ever helped create! How many of these do you remember?

1. Crasher Squirrel
Maybe the origin of the photobomb? It’s by far the best and most original photobomb I’ve seen in a long time anyway! “Crasher Squirrel” came from a photo taken by a married couple. They set up their camera to take a picturesque photo of them with the lake in the background, when a curious little ground squirrel popped up into the frame. That was in 2009, and “crasher squirrel” went viral! I wonder if he knows that he’s internet famous?

2. Chocolate Rain
Everybody remembers Chocolate Rain! It was just phenomenal. Everything from this guy’s voice, to his appearance and his child-like wonder. Forget about the lyrics of the song, or the unintentionally funny recording, you just could not take your eyes off of him. Chocolate Rain provided me with hours of laughing, and we still watch it every now and again for a quick pick-me-up!

3. Overly-Attached Girlfriend
Laina Morris originally posted a parody of Justin Bieber’s “Girlfriend” song where she twisted the lyrics to fit an overly-attached or creepy girlfriend. The song went viral, people loved it, memes of Laina’s face were skyrocketing and now she is one of the most recognisable faces on the web.

4. Trololo
Commonly referred to as the Russian rickroll, “Trololo” was used to troll people on the internet in the same way as Rick Astley’s beloved 80s hit single! Only, Trololo was much more outlandish and strange!

5. Rickrolling
Rickrolling is the internet phenomenon which involves tricking viewers into thinking they're watching something amazing, then doing a complete 180 and punking them with Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

6. Dog Shaming
Dog shaming originated on Tumblr and ignited a new internet phenomenon where sad and confused-looking dogs are photographed with signs explaining what antics they recently got up to. You can’t help but laugh, and feel a little heartbreak for these adorable pups!

7. 2 Girls 1 Cup
2 Girls 1 Cup almost instantly became an overnight phenomenon. Everybody knows what it is at this stage but the viral trend wasn’t due to the video itself, it was more to do with recording peoples’ reactions when they saw it for the first time. That’s where the real punchline came! This poor grandmother’s reaction says it all!

8. Auto-tune the News by Songify This – “Bed Intruder Song.”
So simple yet so catchy! Autotuning ignited in the early 2000s and has since been used to parody almost every viral internet video! Songify This did it with such class and comedic effect with their Bed Intruder Song!

9. LolCats
For cat and animal lovers everywhere, LOLCats combined felines with misspelled phrases such as “I Can Has Cheezburger?”

10. Chat Roulette
Chat Roulette is just one of those crazy inventions, made possible by the internet. Just click chat and you can connect with anyone around the world who is online in a kind of internet-lottery. Chat Roulette parodies and pranks became huge for viral content, with a version of Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” being the latest to grab the world by storm!

There is worry for TV star and former Hear’Say singer, Myleene Klass after an argument with her ex-husband Graham Quinn at her home.

The argument was apparently to do with child care and resulted in Graham smashing up Myleene’s intercom outside her home.

Police confirmed that an investigation was carried out on the incident that occurred on the 14th of August, but no arrest was made: “A 40-year-old man was questioned under caution on August 14. He was not arrested. The investigation is ongoing.”

Graham and Myleene had been together for ten years before he left her in 2012, six months after their marriage. The pair have two children together, Ava (7) and Hero (3).

Poor Mylenne, what a scary thing to happen, reports say she was “shaken” by the incident.

Green smoothies have a bit of a bad reputation. We know, blended spinach mightn’t exactly sound like the most appealing start to your day, but trust us, you can’t get a more nutritious (or tastier) morning kick.

A green smoothie is any blended drink containing a dark green leafy vegetable as its main ingredient. Fortunately though, green veg work amazingly well with citrus fruits, berries, bananas and other yummy add-ons.

Spinach and kale are the most common green smoothie bases, but dark green lettuces and collard are also good options. If you’re a bit wary of the taste, try these three beginners’ recipes… we promise you’ll soon be hooked!

If you want your smoothies cold, use one frozen fruit if possible and ensure your liquids are always straight from the fridge. All recipes serve one person.

Sarah Jane Dunne, a contestant in this year's Miss Ireland, has been talking about what REALLY went on behind the scenes of the beauty pageant this year, and while we don’t like to buy in to the stereotypes about women, we can’t say we’re surprised!

Sarah Jane admitted: “You do get a little bitchiness behind the scenes, but that’s natural when there are 34 girls in a room.”

Thirty-four girls in a room who are all competing for the same prize, may we add. Things are bound to get a bit tense! However, the winner said that this didn’t stop her from making really good friends, and when she got exposure for being a Traveller, she could depend on the girls for support:

“I’ve made friends for life at pageants, I got on really well with all the girls, especially at Miss University Ireland and Miss Ireland.

“When I got so much exposure for being a Traveller, the girls were really supportive.

“I was a bit conscious of getting media attention. At the back of my mind I felt a bit guarded because I didn’t want to be made a spectacle of, which you would see happen an awful lot with the media and Travellers.

“I didn’t want to be made out to be some sort of Big Fat Gypsy like character. It can be so easy for people to twist what you say and make you out to be something you’re not.”

We’re glad to see that when it boils down to it, us girls are there for our friends – competition or no competition!

Britney Spears was on Entertainment Tonight last night when she was asked if she and her Crossroads co-star Zoe Saldana would do another film together. Without thinking, Britney replied:

“Who knows? That’s a very good idea. But she’s pregnant with twins right now. So I'm sure she's got a huge future ahead of her.”

Though it was rumoured that Zoe was expecting twins, the actress hadn’t yet confirmed the news herself – and now she doesn’t have to, so at least that’s one thing of her to-do list!

We didn’t realise that the two stars were still friends, though Zoe did rush to Britney’s defence when an un-edited track of her song Alien was leaked. She spoke about Britney on a talk show, saying:

“She was the one big, big celebrity that I met when I was starting to work in Hollywood who literally was humble.

“I do believe that people and children gravitate to good energy, and she's definitely an abundance of that.

“I'm pretty sure that 80 per cent of our musical artists would be mortified if they were caught singing without auto-tune.”

Awh, that’s nice. Though she didn’t exactly stress that Britney CAN actually sing, she was just warming up her voice so some such excuse, so maybe this was Britney’s payback!

Kris Jenner has called in the help of the FBI because she’s been getting phone calls from someone who is threatening to kill her and her family.

A search warrant was issued to authorities to search one of the rooms in the Four Seasons Beverley Hills, and they seized the female suspect’s mobile phone, laptop, iPad and iPod Touch. However, the woman was not taken into custody, and spoke out online saying that she had let her friend use her laptop for the last eight months, and it was her who had made the death threats. Who knows….

It is alleged that the suspect called Kris Jenner up to three hundred times in one day, and made various threats. However, Kris doesn’t seem to be letting this trouble get her down, and is as active as ever on social media as she supports her daughter Kendall at Mercedes-Benz Spring Fashion Week in NYC and encouraging people to watch Kim’s Ice Bucket Challenge on The Ellen Show.

We hope the FBI catch whoever was making the calls, we can only imagine how scary that would be, no matter how much security you had around you!
