The newly crowned Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh chatted candidly to Ryan Tubridy about her sexuality last night on the Late Late Show.

After her win last month, Philadelphia Rose Maria Walsh revealed in an interview that she was "gay and proud."

Ryan was quick to ask her if it the subject had been broached by the judges. "'Are you a lesbian?' That wasn't asked, no," said Maria. "If it was ever going towards that I would have openly said it."

Despite being tipped as a favourite to be crowned Rose, Maria said she was shocked when the result was announced. "I wasn't expecting to win," she said.

Executive Chairman of the festival, Anthony O'Gara, also had a few things to say yesterday – he published an open letter on the Rose of Tralee website, criticising the Irish public's view of the festival as merely being a "Lovely Girls" contest.

"We are not interested in stereotyping women. We celebrate exceptional women and accept them as the proud people they are, whatever that might be," said Anthony. "Roses and the rest of us live in the real world where bad things happen and people struggle."

Well said, Anthony!

Chris Pratt has got his acting and comedy skills down, but he needs to work a little bit on his singing, if this video is anything to go by!

The Guardians of the Galaxy actor was at Wrigley Field in Chicago this week to take the first pitch for the Cubs baseball team… which by the looks of it didn't go too well:

Chris admitted that baseball wasn't exactly his forte, saying "Of the four sports I played, as maybe you could have picked up by my first pitch today, baseball was my fourth best sport."

He tried his best to make up for his bad pitch though, with an ear-busting rendition of Take Me Out to the Ball Game.

Hmm… we reckon Chris can tick both baseball AND singing off his list of possible party pieces!

Kanye West has opened up about his thoughts on his wife Kim's naked shoot for GQ – and he couldn't be prouder. "That’s his wife, he thinks she’s flawless," a source said. Fair play, Kanye!

Her body isn't all he was raving about though, according to the source. "The spread was one thing, but he’s more impressed with her being named Woman of the Year. That’s
what’s really up."

Kim received the Woman of the Year accolade at the GQ Awards earlier this week, and Kanye is apparently in awe of her sharp business mind. "He wants Kim to be recognised for everything that she is,” the source said. “Her hard work in the industry, her business ventures.”

Kanye's really feeling loved-up at the moment it seems. The couple were all about the PDAs at the GQ awards, and onlookers said they even disappeared off to the bathroom together. "We don’t know if they were fighting or doing something quite different, but they came out looking very flustered," an insider told The Sun. Kim recently dished to GQ about their "amazing sex life," so it's not too unlikely that they'd sneak off for a quickie!

Paris Hilton's never one to look 'au naturel,' but she's gone one step further this time with some dodgy Photoshopping of her own photos.

The heiress uploaded a bikini shot yesterday, taken on a balcony in Ibiza. While we agree that Paris already has an incredible beach body, it seems the star did some retouching to the snap before uploading it, as her waist looks bizarrely small.

Comparing the picture to a paparazzi shot of Paris in the same bikini that day, it's fairly easy to spot the difference:

It's not the first time a celeb has been suspected of Photoshopping their own photos – Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and Britney have all been in the spotlight for using similar tricks.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé have been battling off split rumours for the last few months, but judging by this video the pair are as smitten as ever.

This adorable birthday tribute is just 33 seconds long (cos she's 33, geddit?!) but it shows some really lovely clips from Bey and Jay's On The Run tour, including some mighty fine twerking.

The video was quietly uploaded to Jay-Z's YouTube page yesterday. The couple are currently enjoying some quality time in the south of France before their Paris gig next weekend.

Gwyneth Paltrow spoke last night about the pain of dealing with her father’s death from oral cancer back in 2002.

The actress appeared at a star-studded Stand Up To Cancer fundraiser in LA, at which many celebrities – including Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Alba – spoke for the cause.

Addressing the crowd, Gwyneth opened up about the deeply personal affect that cancer has had on her life. “Earlier today, one of my dear friends attended his mom's memorial service. In July she was diagnosed with leukaemia and died just last week. She was a wonderful person and I'm thinking of you and your family. I hope you're together remembering all the love… It’s what gets me through every time I think about my father. Everyone knows someone who's been affected by cancer so everyone please give.”

Pierce Brosnan also spoke touchingly about the deaths of his first wife Cassandra in 1991, and the passing of his daughter Charlotte last year.

“I held the generous, strong, beautiful hand of my first wife Cassie as ovarian cancer took her life much too soon,” he said. “And just last year, I held the hand of my funny, wonderful daughter Charlotte before she too died from this wretched, inherited disease.”

An adventurous swan had a bit of fun today on the Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin, as he sauntered around with no care for the passing traffic.

Thankfully cars were able to swerve to avoid the little fella, until he waddled off a while later.

We reckon this won’t be the last we hear of him… sounds like he’s a bit of a loose cannon!

Autumn’s here! Maybe it’s just us, but we get a sneaky thrill when the colder weather hits. It’s time for winter coats, woolly scarves, tights and boots, people!

It’s not just about the basic pieces though – there were some really exciting accessories on the autumn/winter catwalks too.

If you’re wondering how to give your outfit a few on-trend touches this season, look no further than our autumn accessories guide…

Chokers
Karl Lagerfeld made a statement on the Chanel catwalks this season with his headphone-style chokers featuring two oversized pearls. If it’s a bit too much for you though, try a more delicate look like Michelle Williams…

Blingin’ earrings
If, like us, you’re constantly losing one earring only to be left with his lonesome other half, you’ll be pleased to know that solo earrings were all over the catwalks this season! Céline had some gorgeous examples, and Emma Watson jumped on board straight away too…

Leopard print
Leopard print will always have its place in the fashion world but it’s really having a moment right now. If you’re not quite ready for a full-on printed skirt or coat, leopard is a perfect option for accessories – we’re loving Ashley Olsen’s slouchy scarf:

Rucksacks and backpacks
Once you swap your handbag for a backpack, we promise you, life will never be the same. It’s a revelation! We’re so glad that the trend for more practical bags has caught on – this Alexander Wang version is gorgeous, and Emmy Rossum is giving us SERIOUS backpack envy with her turquoise one:

Structured box bags
If you’re looking for something a little more formal than the humble backpack, go all clean-cut with a box bag. These were all over the Louis Vuitton catwalks, and Alexa Chung made a cool twist on the trend with her picnic-basket style purse. Want!

Chunky heels
Think Sixties revival and you’ve got the right idea with shoe trends for autumn. Chunky stack heels were everywhere – we’re strangely smitten with these leather Thakoon boots. Eva Mendes went for a more relaxed look with these low-heeled sandals:

Looks like Miley Cyrus has misplaced her t-shirt again… strange how that happens so often!

The singer posted a picture of a bleeding cut on her arm earlier today (ew), but she threw in a bit of side boob too.

The picture was captioned “busted ass naked.” We see what you did there, Miley!

It’s not the first time this week that the singer has overshared a little. He recent appearance in V magazine features a number of, shall we say, compromising positions, and a fair amount of boob!

The shoot, entitled The Emancipation of Miley was shot by none other than Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. The slogan on the magazine’s cover read, “Why Miley loves to provoke.”

Great British Bake Off, vintage Hannah Montana songs, re-runs of Gilmore Girls… we all have something that we deem our “guilty pleasure.”

Sometimes, there’s nothing more satisfying than turning down a night on the town for a Friday evening in with a DVD copy of Legally Blonde and a Dominos Meal Deal for Two (for one). If we get so much enjoyment out of such things though, why do we feel the need to let everyone know that they’re just our guilty pleasures? Should we really be embarrassed to like something just because it’s not exactly socially acceptable?

Pleasure is pleasure. As long as it’s not harming others, there should be no shame in doing whatever the hell it is that you like. By referring to something as guilt-worthy, we’re just accepting the silly boundaries of what is thought of as normal and acceptable.

It’s something most of us do all the time. When I ploughed my way through the Hunger Games books in under a week, I felt I almost had to defend myself a little. “Oh, they’re just so addictive, I had to!” I shouldn’t have worried though – the series is now one of the biggest movie franchises of the decade and it is well within the realms of being a very acceptable pleasure.

Other guilty pleasures of mine include Bon Jovi, excessive use of Snapchat, every Disney movie ever, and of course, eating Nutella with a spoon. Much as I’d love to shout from the rooftops that I’m an huge fan of Livin’ On a Prayer, I admit I’m a little wary of the reaction that would receive. These are things that there is really no shame in enjoying, but that I fear might seem a little bit “uncool” to the outside world. But really, why should I worry?

It’s time we started owning our guilty pleasures, once and for all. There should be no need to defend, no matter how weakly, the things that you love doing. Next time you feel like binge-watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians for 6 hours, do it with your head held high. Whose place is it to judge you? Certainly not mine. Now, excuse me while I go root out my Lion King DVD…
