Following last week's events in Charlottesville, Virgina, the debate about America's Confederate statues has gained momentum.

With many right-thinkers of the belief that the statues should be removed, one man reckons he has found the perfect replacement for a Confederate monument in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Local resident, Nathan Coflin, has launched a Change.org campaign calling on the town's mayor to erect a statue of local hero, Missy Elliot.

“We believe it is time to finally replace the Confederate Monument in Olde Towne Portsmouth Virginia near the intersection of Court and High streets with a new statue of a true Portsmouth native hero,” he wrote.

“Who better to encapsulate the culture and spirit of the city enshrined in a new monument than Grammy Award winning rapper, dancer, and record producer Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott?”

The petition has garnered over 10,000 signatures so far and Twitter seem more than happy to get on board.

Protests for Confederate statues and monuments to be removed have spread throughout the country in the wake of the Charlottesville violence.

Earlier this week, four statues were removed over night in Baltimore and Maryland following a unanimous decision by the city's authorities with more towns likely to follow suit.

It looks like Niall Horan could be set to return to Irish shores after reports suggest the former One Direction star has bought a house on a 10-acre site just outside his home town of Mullingar.

According to The Sunday Times, the six-bedroom house was originally put on the market for €1.6 million in 2011, however the asking price was slashed to €565,000 last year.

The lavish home boasts six reception rooms, six bedrooms, a games room and an outdoor swimming pool (though we're not sure how much use he'll get out of that in the Irish weather).

It's not clear whether or not the 23-year-old will make Mullingar his permanent home once again, as he already has property in Los Angeles and London.

Meanwhile, the Slow Hands singer will kick off his first solo tour at Dublin's Olympia Theatre next week and his debut album is expected to drop later this year.

He recently announced the support acts for the shows which include Gavin James, Picture This and Dublin band, Wild Youth.

Leo Varadkar will kick off his three-day visit to Canada with a bilateral meeting before marching alongside Justin Trudeau in today's Montreal Pride parade.

The Taoiseach is then expected to travel to Toronto where he will discuss CETA and trade agreements between Ireland and Canada.

Ahead of the visit, supporters of the Repeal the Eight campaign started a viral hashtag #justinformleo, calling on the Canadian Prime Minister to approach the issue of Ireland's abortion ban, and educate Leo on the progressive Canadian system.

Ailbhe Smyth from the Coalition to Repeal the 8th said: "I would really like to see someone like Leo Varadkar would have an understanding that it is not enough to come out in favour of one aspect of human rights while completely ignoring another."

Leo is also expected to meet with business and tourism leaders and attend a reception with the Irish community in the city.

Whether you're a bride-to-be, or just a lover of daytime television, Say Yes to the Dress is pretty much everyone's favourite guilty pleasure.

The international reality hit has paved the way for a number of spin-off series over the last few years, and now it's finally Ireland's turn to get in on the action.

RTÉ and television production company, Shinawil, have announced that the county's most famous wedding planner, Peter Kelly (AKA Franc), will present the first Irish version of the series, set to debut later this year.

The ten part series will be filmed in three blocks across August and September in a new couture section of Vows bridal store based in Blarney Business Park in Cork.

The boutique is stocked with lavish dresses from all over the world and cameras will follow 40 Irish brides, who have already been selected, as they try the various styles, colours, patterns and textures in an attempt to find the perfect gown for their big day.

Speaking about the upcoming series Franc said, “I am so excited to be presenting the Irish version of Say Yes To The Dress. As an international wedding planner I have travelled both home and abroad with my brides to find their perfect dress.”

“I could write a book on the amazing experiences I have shared travelling the globe from Hollywood to Paris, London to New York. I am really looking forward to the journey that I am going to take now with my Irish brides on their quest to find their perfect dress.”

That's our winter telly sorted.

How to Order Like a Coffee Connoisseur

Coffee is constantly evolving. There are now so many iterations of coffee, it’s impossible to keep up with all of them. This is largely driven by the appeal of sugary, coffee derivative drinks popularized by fast café chains.

While there’s nothing inherently wrong with people getting what they like, it’s a stretch to call many of these froufrou drinks coffee. Many of them are filled with so much syrup, cream, and other things, the coffee aspect becomes an afterthought. It’s time for people to reclaim coffee!

Here are some tips for how to order like a coffee connoisseur at your local shop.

What Kind of Roast Do You Want?
You’re at the counter ordering your coffee. All you want is a simple cup of Joe—maybe some room for cream. Then the barista asks: “Do you want dark, medium, or light roast?” You had no idea there was anything besides a black roast. This throws you for a loop, and you just order dark roast because that sounds the most sophisticated. While this isn’t the end of the world, you really want to know the difference between these types of roasts.

• Dark Roast: These roasts are going to typically have the least amount of caffeine and a bold, bitter taste. The darkness of the roast is associated with the roasting time.

• Medium Roast: This tends to be the most popular option with most coffee drinkers because it tows the balance between dark and light roast. Depending on the bean, medium roasts can often have a nutty or bright (acidic) flavor profile.

• Light Roast: This is the type that receives the lowest roast time. This allows it to keep the highest caffeine content, but often carries a less distinct flavor and a more watery mouthfeel.

What Are Fair Trade and Organic?
If you’re trying to learn more about coffee, it’s likely that you’ve heard the terms “fair trade” and “organic” used to describe certain types. But what do these things mean, exactly?

The beans are considered organic coffee if the production methods meet certain parameters. These are typically related to what kinds of pesticides can be used on the beans. Some of these products can be harmful to humans, which is why the organic tag is used to differentiate between bean qualities.

Fair trade was a term coined to indicate that a coffee product was produced and bought under equitable conditions. This means that farmers are compensated, and the beans are grown with sustainability in mind. There has been some pushback against the fair trade label in recent years, as the verification process has become more lax. If this matters to you, its valuable to do your own research to better understand the backstory behind your coffee.

What If You Don’t Want Black Coffee?
This is the thing that scares many people about going to a coffee shop: They just don’t know the options. They look at the menu and their eyes glaze over with confusion. You don’t have to be one of these people. Here are a few of the most common coffee drinks that aren’t just straight coffee:

• Espresso: This is a strong, powerful coffee drink made with steam that typically comes in a small serving. The flavors of espresso are intense, bitter and wonderful—so be prepared.

• Americano: This is simply an espresso shot mixed with hot water, so it tastes similar to a standard cup of black coffee, but smoother and less acidic.

• Latte: This is espresso with milk added. Lattes are a good starting point for people who are trying to wean themselves off syrupy coffee drinks, but still want a little something-something to cut the bitter notes.

• Cappuccino: This is a sort of a latte with an added layer of foaminess. It’s an airy drink; like drinking a cloud with a little espresso zing. You can tell the difference between a latte and a cappuccino by simply lifting the cup. Heavy means latte, light means cappuccino.

It’s time for people to bring coffee back to its roots, away from the oversaturated world of sucrose additions. Hopefully you can now feel confident in ordering your coffee like a bean aficionado.

A Texas-based beauty blogger has received huge criticism from cosmetic surgery experts after she chose to live stream her breast augmentation on Instagram this week.

Ashley Devonna is notoriously open with her 200,000+ YouTube subscribers, so when she decided to go under the knife, the 24-year-old felt she needed to document the process on her various social media accounts.

“I’m going to get a breast augmentation, but not just that, we’re going to stream it live on Dr. Khan’s Instagram page,” she told her followers.

Ashley, who admits she is fascinated by cosmetic procedure videos, has said she hopes the footage will educate and inform women who might be considering plastic surgery.

The live stream was approved by her surgeon, Dr Farah Khan, who insisted it was the right move for her patient.

“It’s a new experience,” she told Pix11.

“Nowadays we live our lives on social media and I think especially the younger generation, that’s how they communicate and they want to be open with their friends, their family, their followers.”

However, according to The Independent, some experts in the UK have condemned Ashley's decision, saying that most surgeons use this type of coverage for marketing purposes.

Consultant Plastic Surgeon and BAAPs Council Member Afshin Mesahebi told the newspaper, “As surgeons we use live streaming for training purposes all the time but something like this doesn’t give the whole picture and the magnitude of the surgery and risks associated with implants.”

“Unfortunately most of these patients are given freebies and surgeons are simply doing it for nothing more than marketing purposes.”

I just want to spend the rest of my life laughing!

A post shared by Ashley D. (@msashleydevonna) on

Award-winning cosmetic doctor, Dr Esho, of the ESHO Clinic added: “For millennials, the main source of information today is social media platforms.”

“If it is presented in a form which shows the benefits as well as the risks, if it is informative in terms of educating the patient and those who are interested in the procedure, then it is a very useful tool.

“However, if the individual’s intention is to sensationalise and simply create a buzz for themselves, this is trivialising a serious procedure which can potentially put many people at risk.”

These concerns were echoed by some of Ashely's followers, however the beauty blogger hit back, admitting that she doesn't let the negative comments get her down.

"It’s the business. The negative comments pay me the same as the positive ones."

Woman feel societal pressure to slim down every day of the week, and that pressure can become intensified on the journey to walking down the aisle.

Losing weight for your wedding has become the norm, with bridal fitness classes and crash diets littering the internet.

Thankfully, the body positivity community has made gorgeous plus size brides more visible, but the pressure remains.

Leggings company You Statement have created some fat shaming gym clothes specifically geared towards brides to be.

The pants carry slogans designed to shame women into focusing on losing weight in the run up to their big day.

Statements like 'Training to be a trophy wife,' 'I wont quit unitl the dress fits,' and 'Gotta squat before I tie the knot,' are scrawled across the leggings.

YouStatement

Twitter users took to the social media site to express their indignation over the leggings.

'Ive just seen these leggings and URGH. No. Just no. Please do NOT buy into the thought that you HAVE to lose weight for your wedding,' said one.

We also have this pair which reads 'Unlike other girls, I can make boys smile with my pants ON.' which simply reeks of slut shaming rhetoric.
