"For us it’s the start," said Ghida Anani, founder and director of Abaad – a women’s rights group in Lebanon – this week, following the news that parliament had voted to repeal a law which exonerated rapists as long as they marry their victims.

The hugely controversial law, which has been protested against for years, suspends criminal responsibility if the violator marries the victim of his abhorrent crime.

If the violator refuses to adhere to Article 522, he will face up to seven years in prison.

The law has been the subject of much debate, with proponents arguing that it allows the victim and her family to retain some semblance of honour, while opponents highlighted the further torment the law places upon the victim.

Speaking to The New York Times, Ghida explained the impact the vote has had thus far, saying: "It’s the first step to changing the mind-set and traditions."

"Now the awareness and behavioural campaign will start to make women aware that it’s no longer an option: He cannot escape punishment,"

Abaad has, for years, dedicated time and effort into creating a campaign which highlights the inhumanity of such a law, with explicit billboards in Beirut captioned: "A white dress doesn’t cover up rape."

A number of other Arab countries have allowed rapists to marry their victims in order to avoid prison.

In a move which has been lauded online, Spotify has chosen to remove a number of white supremacist acts from the online music streaming service.

Elaborating on the motivation behind the decision, a spokesperson for the service reminded the public of their removal policy.

"Spotify takes immediate action to remove any such material as soon as it has been brought to our attention," they told Billboard.

Making reference to the fact that the Southern Poverty Law Centre dubbed the bands in question 'hate bands', Spotify asserted that they are in the process of weeding out the other offensive acts.

"We are glad to have been alerted to this content – and have already removed many of the bands identified today, whilst urgently reviewing the remainder," the spokesperson concluded.

In addition to removing offensive acts, Spotify have, according to The Independent, made an effort to promote a playlist which pays tribute to the United States, with tracks including Star Spangled Banner and Living in America.

Spotify insists that "illegal content or material that favors hatred or incites violence against race, religion, sexuality or the like is not tolerated" by the service.

As political and racial tension reaches boiling point in the United States this week, a simple, but hard-hitting message written by an elderly woman has stood out among the countless placards denouncing Neo-Nazis.

Following the tragic death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer at a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, thousands have taken to the streets to condemn the violence exhibited by Neo-Nazis groups in the States.

And among them was a 90-year-old woman named Marianne Rubin.

Clutching a sign which read: "I escaped the Nazis once. You will not defeat me now", Marianne cut a striking figure among dozens of other protesters in New York City's Union Square.

Catching the attention of reporters, Marianne explained that her family was forced to flee Germany in the 1940s and expressed heartfelt dismay over the current situation in the States.

"It's sad. It's terrible. All I can say it it's so bad that they don't want… that they voted for him," she said.

Marianne's proud granddaughter shared a photo of her passionate grandmother, writing: "90-years-old and my beautiful grandmother is still out here fighting & inspiring (and reminding the world what happens when we're silent)."

"This is phenomenal. The world needs more people like your grandmother. Thank you for sharing," wrote one.

"This image is so strong and inspiring, keep strong America," added another.

"Thank you Marianne Rubin, we need people like you to remind us of the horrors of the past," wrote another Instagram user.

"There are evil people who are holocaust deniers. It is shameful that there are people who want to walk in USA and Europe with Nazi flags."

Donald Trump has said that Ireland is one country he would like to see jobs moving from and back to the USA.

'We want products made in the country,' he said, at a press conference regarding the Manufacturing Council.

'Now I have to tell you that some of the folks will leave, they're leaving out of embarrassment because they make their products outside.'

When asked specifically about companies Merck and Intel who have operations in Ireland, Trump responded:

'I've been lecturing them, including the gentlemen you're referring to, about you have to bring it back to this country.'

'You can't do it necessarily in Ireland and all of these other places, you have to bring this work back to this country, that's what I want,' he said.

'I want manufacturing to be back into the United States so that American workers can benefit.'

A new wax figure of Conor McGregor was unveiled in The National Wax Museum yesterday evening.

'We are all excited to exhibit the new wax figure of Conor, particularly in light of the unprecedented level of worldwide attention being focused on his upcoming fight with Floyd Mayweather on Saturday 26th August,' the museum’s marketing manager, Laoise Keaveney told The Irish Times.

However, after the hotly anticipatd work was revealed, it was completely slated by Twitter users, who felt that the wax work was less than impressive.

Some art critics feel that the wax work isn't a very accurate representation of the national treasure.

Judge Judy surprised her courtroom this week after she used a rather unconventional method to settle a custody case.

Viewers of the hit US TV show were left with a lump in their throats after the notoriously straight-talking judge let a dog decided who its rightful owner was.

The case in question saw a woman claim ownership over a dog named Baby Boy after she allegedly purchased him from a woman on the street, however, the defendant claimed the dog had been sold without his consent.

Rather than listen to the back and forth “he said, she said”, Judge Judy decided to ignore all evidence and instead let the dog choose his preferred owner – and things got pretty emotional.

A range of emojis depicting 'professional women' have been nominated for Design of the Year by the Design Museum in London.

The characters, designed by Google, which show women as doctors, mechanics and scientists are due to be released on android by the end of 2017.

Speaking about the emoticons, a spokesperson for the tech company said: "We believe this will better reflect the pivotal roles women play in the world.”

The emojis were developed last year in an effort to empower young women and highlight the diverse career paths available to them.

The update will also include engineers, coders, farmers and professors, which will all be available in various skin tones.

According to The Telegraph, experts at London's Design Museum selected the symbols alongside 62 other works from the areas or architecture, digital, fashion, graphics, product and transport.

An overall winner, as well as winners from each category, will be announced on January 25, 2018.

Google's self-driving car and the 2012 Olympic Torch are among the previous designs to scoop the top prize.

What's the first thing that pops into your head when you think about raffles?

Probably those little pink ticket books or that battered teddy bear you won at your primary school's Christmas fair.

Well, forget everything you thought you knew, about well, everything, because this woman just won a £800,000 house in a humble raffle – no, really.

Finance worker, Marie Segar, is now the proud owner of the 18th century Melling Manor in Lancashire, after spending £40 on 20 tickets.

Dunstan Low, the previous owner, decided to raffle off the property after it failed to sell for it's £800,000 asking price.

And after word quickly spread, Dunstan ended up taking in a nifty £900,000 in ticket sales from around the world.

Oh and as if Marie wasn't lucky enough, the house also came with the title, Lady of Melling, which was donated by the manor's previous owner, St John's Hospice in North Lancashire after Dunstan donated £30,000 of the raffle profits.

So, if there's one thing we can all agree on it's that Chrissy Teigen is the human embodiment of pure sunshine, and while no one if perfect, she comes pretty damn close.

But, even the undisputed queen of Twitter feels insecure from time to time.

The US model often uses social media to speak candidly about her own struggles, and now, during a recent speech at Beautycon LA, she has revealed there are times when she cries to her husband, John Legend, about the shape of her body.

“There have been times I've cried to John, where I felt like I would never have 'that' body. Everyone has a butt now and curves and a little waist and that's not me … I'm jealous of those bodies and I want that, but I also feel like I really want to be cool with my body because of people like you guys,” she said.

Chrissy admitted she often feels “insanely inadequate” after comparing herself to other women on Instagram.

"My old ass will go on social media, and I will look at the Photoshopping, Facetuning, and the apps — and everything that goes into creating what is now a hit Instagram photo.”

Chrissy's comments prove that even supermodels feel insecure and that no good can come from comparing yourself to images on social media which have been enhanced or altered in some way.

She went on to suggest that instead of picking out our so-called “flaws”, we should celebrate our bodies, stretch marks and all.

"I've been on shoots, I've been naked-to-naked with people, and I will say that everyone has a stretch mark. Every time I see that other stretch mark, I'm like, 'Girl, yes!' It makes me feel better, and if more of us did that kind of sh*t, how many people would feel better?"

Yes Chrissy!
