Homelessness figures have escalated this year, and data from the Department of Housing shows that the number of homeless people in Ireland has reached almost 8,000.

2895 of those are children.

'While the overall numbers in emergency accommodation showed an increase during June, progress is being made in relation to moving families out of hotels / B&Bs,' reads the report.

'At the end of March a total of 870 homeless families were housed in commercial hotels and B&Bs in the Dublin Region; at the end of June this figure had fallen to 638.'

68 per cent of those homeless are in Dublin.

3406 homeless adults accessed emergency accommodation in June.

'We have around 50,000 empty homes in Irish cities or 13 empty homes for every homeless adult' Pat Doyle, chief executive of The Peter McVerry Trust told The Journal.

'That is in an intolerable and deeply frustrating situation.'

Taking to Twitter to pay tribute to the man she shares her life with, Michelle uploaded two throwback shots of the Obama family celebrating the former president's 43rd birthday.

"Another year older, but the same phenomenal guy I married nearly 25 years ago," Michelle wrote. "Happy birthday, @BarackObama — we love you so much!"

The tweet, which was uploaded less than an hour ago, has amassed more than 79,000 likes so far, with members of the public keen to share in the celebrations.

Earlier this summer, a 20-year-old woman in Massachusetts was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter after a judge ruled that she had encouraged her suicidal boyfriend to take his own life.

Michelle Carter, whose boyfriend Conrad Roy III took his own life in 2014, waived her right to a jury which ultimately gave Judge Lawrence Moniz the right to rule as he saw fit given the evidence presented in the case.

And this week, Michelle was sentenced to two-and-a-half years probation meaning she will not have to go to prison immediately, and may never spend time behind bars if her state appeals are ruled successful.

Dismayed by the judge's ruling in the controversial case, Roy's cousin, Makenna O'Donnell, expressed her feelings on Good Morning America.

"I was just sick to my stomach [at] the fact that she can just be free and my cousin, he's not here. Two-and-a-half years isn't enough," she insisted. "It's not enough. She should be behind bars."

The judge heard that Carter has sent her boyfriend a barrage of text messages encouraging him to take his own life, even going as far as to order him back into the vehicle when he changed his mind about using it to inhale carbon monoxide fumes.

The case was the first of its kind, and it was believed that Carter could face up to 20 years in prison – something which Conrad's cousin addressed on television.

"I just don't understand how somebody can be free, knowing that she deliberately told [Roy] to get back in the car," Makenna said.

"She gets to sleep in her own bed tonight. She gets to wake up with her family, meanwhile, where's Conrad? Where's Conrad? He's watching us from up above, he's not gonna be here anymore."

Speaking to CBS, Roy's mother Lynn said she hopes her son's death leads to the creation of new laws.

Let's talk about boob sweat, shall we?

Very, very few of us are immune to it, and the vast majority of us have spent more time than we'd like to admit marvelling at the sheer amount of sweat our bust can generate.

Whether it's following a hot shower, due to an ill-fitting bra or because the weather is more pleasant than you're generally used to, your boobs can sweat.

And they can sweat hard.

Considering this, it's perhaps no surprise that the internet has gone wild for the Ta Ta Towel –  a creation which seeks to cool a woman down in the bust area.

Has anyone checked these out yet?!! The #tatatowel it's for #boobsweat y'all!

A post shared by M (@tatted.paint_) on

Touted as a 'patented solution to your boob sweat problems', the good folk behind the creation insist it's great for nursing or during pregnancy, perfect for prep before a big night out or ideal for lounging in.

Available in three sizes (yep, you guessed it, S,M,L), the Ta Ta Towel is currently the talk of the internet.

My ladies with DD…I know you'll understand.#TataTowel

A post shared by Taylor Ellis (@taytay_usc13) on

"I need one of those!" wrote one enthusiastic Ta Ta Towel fan while another remarked: "I have no words for that. Although #swoobies is my new favorite word."

It's our favourite new word too.

So, for those of you who don't know; former Girls Aloud member, Sarah Harding, is currently ensconced within the four walls of the Celebrity Big Brother house.

And when compared to previous Celebrity Big Brother contestants, Sarah has a relatively high profile, so it's no real surprise that Twitter has devoted time to analysing the singer's every move since she made her grand entrance this week.

What was it like being in Girls Aloud?  Has she had surgery? And, perhaps most importantly, does she hate Cheryl?

Unsurprisingly, it's been a mixed bag so far, with some members of the public keen to support the 35-year-old performer and others…well… less so.

Here's the breakdown:

If you're a theme park addict and regularly lament the fact that Ireland is somewhat lacking in that department, then you'll be pleased to hear that a theme park set to rival Disneyland will soon be only a short flight away.

That's right ladies, the UK is preparing for the arrival a giant theme park which is reported to feature rides, rollercoasters, a theatre, retail and food outlets as well as hotels and a nightclub.

Dartford in Kent is set to home the £3.5 billion Paramount Entertainment Resort, and despite the fact that Paramount is no longer working with London Resort Company Holdings, LRCH has confirmed they will be pushing on with the project.

"We want to express our sincere thanks to the many members of the Paramount team who have worked with us since we took over the Project in August 2013," said Humphrey Percy, CEO of LRCH.

After confirming they will be liasing with local authorities and stakeholders, Percy said they will be providing the public with an insight into their plan at the final stage of the consultation later this year.

"We are creating a unique entertainment destination offering a scale and quality unprecedented in the UK where much loved characters and stories will be brought to life from iconic movies, television, books, electronic gaming and toys," he explained.

According to The Independent, work on the park is set to begin in 2019 following government approval, and is expected to pull in 40,000 visitors a day.

The entertainment industry in Britain was left stunned earlier this summer when one of half of TV's most wholesome duo announced he would be seeking professional help for addiction issues.

Ant McPartlin, whose career has spanned more than two decades, revealed that he would be entering rehab after accepting he had an issue with alcohol and drugs.

"The first step is to admit to yourself you need help," he said in June, as news broke that he would be taking time out of the spotlight.

"I have spoken out because I think it is important that people ask for help if they are going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery," he added.

Having worked closely with Ant and Dec over the last 15 years on both Pop Idol and Britain's Got Talent, it's no surprise that Simon Cowell was asked his opinion on the presenter's recent decision to enter rehab.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: "I don’t know details behind the scenes, but when someone has the courage to own it, deal with it, made a public statement, we would a million per cent support him. I think he’ll be fine."

"I’ve worked with him for 16 years. All I can tell you about Ant is he’s one of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet," he continued. "He hasn’t changed in all the years I’ve known him."

Acknowledging the toll the industry can take on people, Simon added: "I have worked in entertainment for a long long time and I’ve seen what happens with pressure. I’m not making excuses here."

Looking to the future, Simon seemed confident that Ant would make a full recovery and make a return to television.

"He’s got great people around him and also he’s got a great family around him. Dec’s his best friend," he continued. "We made it clear we would always stand by them."

TV insiders believe Ant should be back on our screens by November.
