It was a stand-out moment at this year's Video Music Awards, and Fifth Harmony no doubt knew they would be forced to explain the presence – and sudden disappearance – of a fifth member during their highly-anticipated performance.

Watching the group take to the stage on Sunday night, audience members and TV viewers were surprised to see the foursome appear on stage alongside a fifth person.

Did Camila Cabello, who left the group last year, experience a change of heart? Had Ally, Normani, Dinah and Lauren recruited a new member?

Before viewers could speculate themselves into a frenzy, the fifth member quite literally jumped backwards off the stage, leaving the four remaining members to bring it on home.

Understandably, social media went into a tailspin, as fans of the band wondered whether they had just thrown some spectacular shade at Camila – something which they addressed while appearing on Good Morning America this morning.

Acknowledging the drama surrounding their performance, the ladies said: "We get asked all the time if we’re getting a fifth member and we wanted to show the world in an artistic way that, hey, the four of us are Fifth Harmony."

Speaking to host Lara Spencer, the ladies insisted that there was no need for the addition of a fifth member, and they hoped their performance would put the speculation to bed for good.

"We’re stronger and better than we’ve ever been — and honestly it was such a monumental moment for us. We were at the VMAs! We had rain! We had splits! We had a mic drop!"

And that's our cue to stop wondering whether Camila will be making a return, right?

Former Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, has opened up about her battle with an eating disorder, admitting the pressure of being in a girl band only added fuel to the fire.

The 39-year-old spoke candidly about her struggle with bulimia in a revealing interview with Cosmopolitan, saying: “It stole all of my happiness, confidence and memories.”

The X Factor judge told the magazine that she was just 14-years-old when her issues around food and body-image first emerged.

“I was always very critical of myself from a young age, and when I was 14, I started running,” she said.

“I would go outside in the middle of the night and run, because I thought I had to be thinner and that my thighs should look a certain way.”

Things only got worse for Nicole when her career in the entertainment industry began to take off.

“When I got The Pussycat Dolls, it really amplified that because it had so much to do with showing your body off.”

Nicole first poke about her struggle with bulimia back in 2014, and though she has fully recovered, she admits she was ashamed of her past.

“I have a lot of fans and I never wanted to come out about it, because I was ashamed. But once I finally did come out about it, I realised how many people it had helped.”

But, just like everyone else, she has her goood and bad day. Speaking about her X Factor co-star, Nicole joked: “Mrs O and I were joking the other day that sometimes we wake up in a puddle of cookies and crisps! But what really helps me is working out. Even if it’s not for very long, (I love) to get a sweat on to keep me focused and positive.”

The singer finished off by encouraging women to not be so hard on themselves and to make an effort to embrace their figures.

Hear, hear, Scherzy!

It’s been 58 years since Alice O’Sullivan was crowned the first ever Rose of Tralee.

The year was 1959, Éamon de Valera was President of Ireland, and Seán Lemass has begun his term as Taoiseach.

The first 12 female recruits were selected to join An Garda Siochana and Cliff Richard was No. 1 in the charts with Living Doll.

Representing Dublin at the inaugural event in Co Kerry, Alice could hardly have known that in the six decades that were to follow, hundreds of young women would continue to compete for the title.

But what is it about the event – often derided as outdated and sexist – which continues to appeal to young women around the world? We sat down with this year’s New Zealand Rose, Niamh O’Sullivan, in order to find out more.

Hailing from Co Cork, but currently living in New Zealand, Niamh admits that she understands some of the criticism levelled at this year’s live shows, but is at pains to highlight the event’s many merits.

“I understand this year there was some criticism of the live shows focussing too heavily on the woman's partners and had quite a "romantic angle",” she says.

“It is true there was a lot of time given over to the girls' partners, however the show is a family show and it aims to try to showcase the girls' personalities while also providing entertainment to all those watching.”

“Getting the balance between important social awareness topics and lighter, fun topics can be hard, and I'm sure it's something that RTÉ and the Rose of Tralee spend a lot of time discussing each year.”

“It's hard to please everyone and I've been talking to a lot of people who had completely differing opinions on what makes a good Rose of Tralee show so I feel there will always be criticism while there are differing opinions of the audience watching. “

Reflecting on the common narrative which suggests that the annual event is an outdated, anti-feminist spectacle, Niamh insists that one needs only cast a casual eye over its list of participants to see the inaccuracy of such a dialogue.

“[It] celebrates women – fantastic, intelligent and witty women who are proud of their Irish heritage and who get a chance to make their families' history of immigration known, and acknowledge the hardships that must have accompanied leaving Ireland,” Niamh explains.

“The women I met are shaping their communities, both in Ireland and all over the world. The work they do, in their careers and through voluntary work is highly inspiring and commendable and I'm very proud that Ireland has a festival that showcases these type of women for the younger generation to look up to.”

“In a world where there are a lot of questionable role models in the media shaping our young female minds, I feel there is a need for the Rose of Tralee and the type of female role models it portrays. If we continue to celebrate 64 new inspiring young woman each year, then I feel the festival will always hold an important position, and will remain relevant."

As viewers, our perception of the Rose of Tralee is born of the two nights of televised footage beamed out to us from the Kingdom, but in reality, what we are shown as viewers is only a snapshot of the womens' experience of the event.

"I won't lie and say I was prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that it turned out to be!" Niamh said of the week-long festival.

"So many businesses and people want to be part of the festival and host the Roses that we have a hectic schedule that leaves your head spinning! We are told of long days and short sleeps and you can try and prepare your mind for that but you can't ever prepare your body. It took its toll on both body and mind from Day Three for me."

And while sore throats and sore feet are a common complaint, Niamh also struggled with practicalities of living with Type 1 Diabetes.

"There were definitely some extra struggles I knew I would face putting myself forward for the Rose of Tralee," she said of her decision.

"I manage my  blood sugars using an insulin pump which is a small device the size of an old block Nokia that I wear 24 hours a day. The block is attached to a wire which is inserted into my skin," the 27-year-old paediatric dietician explains.

In addition to managing her blood sugar levels throughout the day, Niamh relied on the event's chaperones to tend to the equipment she needs on account of the condition.

"This was the hardest part of the process for me – having to hand over control and rely on other people to help manage my Diabetes," Niamh admits.

"I have had Type 1 for six years and have always managed it completely independently. This was the first time I had to hand over equipment or back ups and I felt so worried relinquishing control and had a couple of melt downs feeling like I was burdening everyone."

"I felt I was drawing unwanted attention on myself and never wanted my Diabetes to be seen as a burden and I felt it was. I entered the Rose of Tralee to raise awareness of certainly the struggles but also the triumphs that come alongside having Diabetes."

"I wanted to show it does not limit what you can achieve in life and if anything for me it has shaped the type of person I am and made me want to strive for more in my life. "

And it appears Niamh's mission did not go unnoticed, as she recalls her stand-out moment from the event which took place during the Saturday parade.

"The ultimate highlight for me was halfway through the parade when the other two Roses on my float started wildly hitting me to look over to the opposite side of the crowd," Niamh recalls.

"There was screaming and roaring coming from a mother pointing at her teenage daughter who was waving her insulin pump around. She said her name is Caitlyn, she has Type 1 Diabetes and had been following my journey."

"I'm beyond proud to be able to represent the Type 1 community and be a role model to all the Caitlin's out there," Niamh adds.

2017 saw Jennier Byrne from Co Offaly take this year's title – a triumph felt passionately by Niamh, who shared a room with the junior doctor throughout their time as Roses.

"She was first and foremost my saving grace and best friend in the competition. We were perfectly paired in humour, laid back attitude and even our outfit picks were almost identical on several occasions! " Niamh laughs.

"Jennifer was my rock and no more deserving girl could have won the title," she adds.

And would she do it all over again?

"In a literal heartbeat. It was the toughest but most enjoyable week of my life – a whirlwind of dual exhaustion and exhilaration, laughter and tears but above all memories I'll keep with me over in New Zealand and the best closure on Ireland I could ever ask for. "

Ticketmaster have issued a number of warnings for fans attending Niall Horan's homecoming concert in Dublin's Olympia Theatre tonight.

Those who purchased tickets for the highly anticipated gig using a credit card have been told the card owner must be present upon arrival.

In cases where multiple tickets were purchased using the same credit card, additional guests will have their IDs cross checked against a purchase list.

In an email sent out last night, concert-goers were told that failure to comply with these rules would result in denied entry:

“Any ticket holder not able to provide the required purchase and identification documents will be denied entry to the venue.

“Any customer found to have exceeded the show’s ticket limit will have their additional transactions cancelled.

Meanwhile, Niall has been posting on social media ahead of tonight's gig, admitting he is both “nervous and excited.”

The Slow Hands singer also took to Instagram to share his delight at getting the chance to share the stage with Dublin-based band, Wild Youth.

Doors open at 7pm, with special guests, Wild Youth, due to kick off at around 8.15pm, while Niall Horan is expected to take the stage around 9.15pm.

A high-school principal has come under fire after she body-shamed female students for wearing leggings.

Heather Taylor, the principal at Stratford High School in South Carolina, told an assembly of 14 to 16-year-old girls that they shouldn't wear leggings unless they were a size zero or two (size four or six on this side of the pond).

“And the sad thing is ladies, so if someone has not told you this before, I'm going to tell you this now. Unless you're a size zero or two and you wear something like that, even though you're not fat, you look fat,” she said in a voice recording obtained by one of the students.

Her words sparked huge backlash among students and parents alike, with some admitting they felt personally attacked by the statement.

Speaking about the highly controversial comments, Allison Veazey, a sophmore at Stratford High School, told WCBD, “I’m not a size zero and I kind of felt targeted because of my size.”

“It was really hurtful, cause I felt like my size made me look disgusting towards someone in the clothes that I wear,” she added.

In a statement to USA TODAY, Heather Taylor said her intention was "not to hurt or offend any of my students in any way."

"I assured them all that I am one of their biggest fans and invested in their success."

Though she addressed the concerns, the principal did not retract or apologise for her comments.

When we think 00s, we think low rise jeans and roll-on body glitter, but there was another major tech-cessory that defined the era.

In the early days, mobile phones were for playing Snake and downloading those hideously overpriced beep ring tone versions of your favourite Avril Lavigne songs.

There were no built-in cameras, no apps, and you had to delete blocks of text messages to make space for the latest text chain mail.

In homage to the iconic and indestructible phone, bath products company Loquita Bath & Body have created a stunning version of the Nokia 3210.

While normally dropping your phone in the bath would spell disaster, this one is literally made for just that.

The bath bomb is vegan and cruelty free, and looks like it turns the bath a beautiful shade of blue.

If the block phones weren't your jam back in the day, what about another 90/00s icon, the Troll doll?

This stunning grape bath bomb is making us almost as nostalgic as the blockia.

We could listen to James Vincent talk cosmetics for hours… and hours… and hours. (No seriously, we're obsessed.)

A make-up artist of incredible acclaim, James' list of clients includes the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Lady Gaga, so we were all ears when he decided to give an appraisal of Irish woman and their techniques.

While appearing on Today FM's Dermot and Dave Show in recent days, James provided a professional insight into the cosmetic trends currently doing the rounds in Ireland, and it sounds like we could all do with an injection of creativity.

While James acknowledged that "Irish women are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the world", he's noted that we appear to have a paint-by-numbers technique (our words, not his) when it comes to our faces.

"The thing that is strange to me is that everyone starts to look alike. I just walked through the department store on the way here and everyone has the same face," he surmised.

Joking that this may cause problems on the city's dating scene, James added: "I can only imagine how confusing it is for straight guys at the pub when you meet a girl. She walks away and then comes back over and you don't know who you were just talking to."

James did, however, say that cosmetic trends do tend to sweep major cities meaning that it's not surprising we tend to sport similar make-up styles, with James confirming that New York also has 'a look'.

Delving further still, James has noted the particular features we tend to accentuate in a similar way. saying: "I think if you look at Dublin right now, the brow is very specific, the bronzer is very specific, and it creates a look where people start to look similar."

"That's why I say individuality is really what it should be all about. You know, make up should make you feel individual," he advised.

Fair enough.
