Some 400 inter-county GAA players slept rough across the country last night in an effort to raise much needed funds for homeless charities.

Organised by the volunteer group Gaelic Voice for Change, the 12-hour sleep-outs took place from 6pm – 6am in various towns and cities including Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Naas and Sligo.

Players in New York and Boston also took part.

So far, the group has raised over €176,800 for charities in the north and south  including the Peter McVerry Trust, DePaul, the Simon Communities, Focus Ireland and the Capuchin Day Centre, Cope Galway, Thomand House and Novas in Limerick, and the Welcome Organisation in Belfast.

Dublin footballer Eamon Fennell said is about much more than putting a roof over someone's head.

"I think we understand that there's a crisis at the moment, and we just felt we had to do something,

"We knew that homelessness was about getting a roof over someone's head, but it's also about tacking mental health, physical health, kids' self-esteem that are living in hotels and hostels.

"There's an education piece that people don't understand that we're trying to bring to them now."

Getting a taxi home, takeaway in hand, is ingrained in the ritual of a big night out for city slickers and country folk alike.

The buses have ended, there's no designated driver, and you're definitely not walking distance from your digs, so a taxi is often a necessary endeavour for students and professionals alike.

However, what happens if you have lost your purse, have no cash on you, or, worst of all, your phone has died?

This is where the innovative new transport safety app Flag is set to step in.

Flag, the brainchild of Galway-based entrepreneur Richie Cummins, is an app which lets users travel and pay with no phone, bank card or cash, and it's about to launch in Dublin after a successful trial run in Galway.

The app aims to 'Give Dublin the gift of safety this Christmas,' a wish that is backed up by a host of Irish celebrities in their new campaign.

A post shared by Flag – The Taxi App (@flagtaxis) on

The likes of Marty Morrissey, Joe Duffy and Irish rugby star Ultan Dillane have already but their faith in the innovative app.

But how does it work?, we hear you cry.

Essentially, download Flag -The Taxi App from the app store, and sign up. Then, add a picture and emergency four digit pin number. You can then use the app to hail taxis as usual.

However, if you ever find yourself in a situation without funds, you can pay via the app at a later time, or if your phone is dead, you can flag down a taxi and use your name and emergency pin number to pay for the taxi, as the driver will be able to connect the journey to your account using the pin code. Pretty nifty, we think.

'Throughout college I often was left without the means to pay for a taxi, i noticed many my peers had the same problem and it turned out to be quite an issue for most people at some stage,' Richie told SHEmazing

'So I started working on a way to fix it and set up project DASH (Drive All Students Home).'

'This was such a success we evolved, built a large team and developed Flag, the only taxi app of its kind worldwide.'

The team at Flag have been busy signing up drivers in Dublin over the past few weeks, and they are giving away completely free taxi fares to people who support the campaign.

Everyone that tells their next taxi driver to download the app will get a free taxi fare (not too shabby).

The Rape Crisis Centre and An Garda Siochana also supported the project from the early days through their Campus Watch Programme.

‘The taxis that have integrated have really shown they care about passengers, and hopefully all taxis will soon be branded with the safety it brings’ said Sergeant Pat Flanagan, Officer for Crime Prevention.

The mum is trilingual, as she is fluent in Afrikaans (she's South African), English, and now Portuguese thanks to her husband-to-be.

What could look better paired with your Christmas tree brows? Why, tinsel eyelashes of course.

The glittery look is currently going viral on Instagram, but originated with Regina from alternative beauty page Cool Girls Wear Mugler.

The tinsel lashes are ethereal, beautiful, and look like they belong on a high fashion runway.

A post shared by Regina (@coolgirlswearmugler) on

We're obsessed with the gorgeous iridescent look, created by taking tiny strips of tinsel, trimming them to lash length, and using eyelash glue to stick them to your lash line.

However, we have to question how safe they would be to actually wear on a night out.

It hurts enough when we get one of our lash extensions stuck in our eye, never mind a scratchy piece of tinsel.

A post shared by Regina (@coolgirlswearmugler) on

Perhaps we could do it if we just opted for tinsel on the lower lash line?

This look may have to be left to the Instagram experts this party season.

Until we figure out how to mange it ourselves, we'll be scrolling through Regina's glossy-eyed Insta page for further makeup inspiration.

There's no question that being the child of a celebrity comes with its own set of difficulties.

It's rare, though, that the famous parent fully confronts the realities of what their little one has been put through.

Eminem has bucked the trend, rapping about his past in a tune dedicated to his daughter, Hailie Mathers, called 'Castle'.

I built this castle
Now we are trapped on the throne
I'm sorry we’re alone

The 18th track on the iconic rapper's newest album, Revival, starts out with these evocative lines.

The song then chronicles his rise to stardom, starting when he was a young father struggling to support his daughter on what little money he made from rapping.

A post shared by Marshall Mathers (@eminem) on

The 45-year-old father and Hailie's mother, Kimberly Anne 'Kim' Scott, have had an extremely public and tumultuous relationship.

The high school sweethearts have been married and divorced twice, and he notoriously wrote the song 'Kim' about his hatred for his then-wife.

Eminem has since apologised to Hailie for the publicised nature of his conflicts with her mother.

I never knew it'd be like this
If I did I wouldn't have done it
You ain't asked for none of this sh*t, now you're being punished?!
Things that should've been private with me and your mother is public

Eminem has struggled with more than relationship issues, though.

In 2007, the 15-time Grammy Award winner almost died of a methadone overdose.

Slim Shady has spoken openly about his drug addiction in the past. His new lyrics, in which he speaks to his daughter about how he was 'sliding down a slippery slope', show a unique vulnerability.

A post shared by Hailie Scott (@hailiescott1) on

The rapper is quite the family man.

He adopted Alaina, daughter of Kim's sister Dawn who died of an overdose, and Whitney, Kim's daughter from a different relationship.

Kim has also expressed in recent interviews that he is an excellent Dad.

The Harry Potter series has gripped the imaginations of multiple generations, and fans still hanker after any little piece of additional information they can find about the series.

Luckily, author JK Rowling has a penchant for sharing fun HP facts via Twitter.

In a recent thread about unusual things people have written their ideas on, JK Rowling offered this exciting titbit of information:

The author revealed that she came up with the concept for the various Hogwarts houses mid-flight.

This forced her to have to jot down the idea for the houses and their names on an aeroplane sick bag. Nice.

This just kind of proves that the life of the multi-millionaire author wasn't always quite so glamorous.

We're sure that these days she always has her Quick Quotes Quill on hand to note down any amazing new ideas that come her way.

Ryanair staff have planned strike action on December 20.

The budget airline has agreed to meet with pilot's union for the first time ever, but passengers may still face disruption.

There were mixed reactions from pilots’ groups after Ryanair's recognition of the union.

Chief executive Michael O’Leary said the airline would reconsider its policy of refusing to recognise labour groups.

Up to 117 members of the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association still plan to strike on Wednesday.

Ryanair has sought a meeting with the Irish Airline Pilots' Association on that day, according to The Independent.

'Christmas flights are very important to our customers and we wish to remove any worry or concern that they may be disrupted by pilot industrial action next week,' said Michael O'Leary.

'If the best way to achieve this is to talk to our pilots through a recognised union process, then we are prepared to do so, and we have written today to these unions inviting them to talks to recognise them and calling on them to cancel the threatened industrial action planned for Christmas week.'

'Recognising unions will be a significant change for Ryanair, but we have delivered radical change before.'

Great news for animal lovers – accessible premium brand Michael Kors has pledged to eliminate the use of fur in their designs.

The brand has received international praise for the move.

CEO John D Idol said in a statement that technological advancements in the production of faux fur mean that the same luxurious appearance and texture can be created without harming sentient animals.

A post shared by Michael Kors (@michaelkors) on

‘This decision marks a new chapter as our company continues to evolve its use of innovative materials,’ he said in a statement to Business of Fashion.

This decision will extend to the brand Jimmy Choo, which was recently acquired by MK.

‘This is a wonderful holiday gift for fur-bearing animals and follows many years of protests at Michael Kors fashion shows and boutiques by PETA and other animal rights groups,’ said animal rights giant PETA.

A post shared by Michael Kors (@michaelkors) on

‘Today’s shoppers no longer want to buy or wear the skins of animals who were caged and then electrocuted or bludgeoned to death,’ PETA's Paula Moore said in a blog post praising the move.

‘Michael Kors is the third luxury fashion brand in recent months to realise that fur is a dead-end.'

'This fall, both Gucci and BCBG Max Azria made headlines around the world when they announced that they were ditching fur.’

The maiden voyage of the new Green line Luas extension definitely everything a commuters dreams are made of.

On Monday, the extension began running alongside Dublin’s other jam packed public transport options.

It was far from perfect, with major delays and malfunctioning traffic signals marring the experience.

Traffic has eased up as the week has continued, but there have still been long waits at new and old platforms for Luas users.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has admitted that these delays will continue into March of next year.

‘The frequency of the trams, before the extension of the line, had been every three to six minutes; it’s now down to every four to nine minutes,’ Transport Infrastructure Ireland spokesman Sean O’Neill told The Irish Times.

Much needed additional trams with extra carriage space have been ordered to combat long waits and over crowding.

Seven have been ordered, but these are not expected to be ready until March 2018.
