Yearly Archives: 2017

It is the most wonderful time of the year, and we could not be bloody happier about it.

We've been making list (and checking them twice), decking the halls and jingling bells – and singing Chrimbo songs since mid October.

And while we are absolute suckers for tradition, we cannot resist this year's hottest Christmas tree trend.

PINK Christmas trees are currently taking the Internet by a storm, and we are absolutely loving them.

You may think they're tacky, and you are not wrong, but they are festive and fabulous, so what's not to love?

Have a gawk at our faves, and let us know your thoughts:

We're all weak with feels here at SHEmazing HQ after footage of a very festive proposal in the Irish capital started doing the rounds on Facebook last night.

Barry Clarke enlisted the help of good ol' Santa in order to propose to his partner Suzanne Kellett, who was under the assumption she and Barry were simply bringing their son Cameron to Arnotts on a festive day out.

According to Barry's post, which has been liked and shares extensively since yesterday, the Dublin department store played an absolute blinder in helping him to organise the surprise.

"Santa had a very special gift for a special lady today in Arnotts," Barry wrote on Facebook last night. "She didn't have a clue! Anyhow, she said Yes!"

"Thanks to Claire and the staff in Arnotts for arranging and keeping this a secret. Thanks to Santa for playing a stormer and thanks to Cameron for lying on the floor for the whole thing!"

And yep, we're just melting.

So, there's no denying that the results of Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé's recent trip to the recording studio was one to remember.

Amassing more than 4,000,000 views on both Instagram and YouTube combined, the pair's rendition of Perfect undoubtedly struck a chord with fans of the acclaimed artists.

But it looks like Beyoncé may have a new contender, and he comes in the form of revered Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli.

59-year-old Andrea lent his voice (and native language) to Ed's composition, and the results have moved YouTube to tears in the last 24 hours.

"I really didn't think this song could get any more beautiful but you proved me wrong," wrote one YouTuber beneath the video which has racked up almost half a million views today.

"Andrea took the song to another level. Amazing," added another.

Ladies, see for yourselves.

A chiropractic clinic in Co Donegal has made headlines this morning following the launch of its second annual Christmas toy appeal.

The Freedom Spinal Health Chiropractic in Letterkenny took to Facebook at the end of November to remind the public that on Friday December 15 they would be accepting toys instead of standard payment.

"On Friday December 15th we'll be holding our 2nd annual Christmas Toy Appeal. On this day instead of taking payment for care, we ask that people donate new, boxed toys of similar value," read their post.

"These toys will then be collected by St Vincent de Paul and distributed to local families in our community, who may otherwise go without."

Referring to their inaugural appeal, the clinic paid tribute to everyone who made it a success last year.

"Last year we were blown away by the generosity of people, not just those who are under care here, but we had many donations from people who are not patient's of the practice."

In recent days, chiropractor Anthony Lavin elaborated on the endeavour, and revealed that members of the public, outside of their patient list, had gotten involved.

"We had a lot of donations from people last year who don't come to our clinic, but wanted to support this great cause," he explained.

Ladies, this is wonderful.

Still on the hnt for the perfect Christmas gift for that fashion fan in your life?

Rummaging through the wardrobes of Roz Purcell and Darren Kennedy might be the answer, right?

Well this weekend, you could get the chance to do just that.

The pair of Irish sartorialists are hosting a Christmas market in The Fat Fox this weekend.

All proceeds from the sales are going directly to the Capuchin Day Centre, which provides over 700 meals per week to the homeless and impoverished.

'Find the perfect gift for you or your loved one, with gorge clothes, beauty, grooming and makeup products on sale and help us raise funds for the homeless this Christmas,' reads Darren's post on Instagram.

There will be menswear, fashion, beauty bits and skincare on offer.

If you're interested, the market will kick off this Sunday from The Fat Fox's location on Camden Row.

Starting at 12 noon and finishing at 3pm, it's the perfect way to spend the afternoon while contributing to a very worthy charity.

Like three-day weekends and 2 for 1 pizza deals, Christmas is one of those things you’re meant to just love.

It’s innate, it’s intrinsic, it’s Christmas, for God’s sake.

And yet for so many of us, the festive period can leave us feeling overwrought, on edge and inexplicably emotional – feelings which are difficult to articulate if, on paper, life is ticking along just peachy.

Unlike so many others, you might not have suffered a bereavement and you may not be struggling with illness – both of which justify an aversion to Christmas – and yet here you are feeling deflated, dejected and despondent.

It’s not a deliberately churlish reaction to the magic of the season; you wish you could experience the child-like awe still exhibited by so many of your peers, and yet it simply fails to manifest.

And what’s left in its place is a sense of disappointment, guilt and shame.

The magic of Christmas isn’t lost on you; in fact, it’s that very magic that often leaves you feeling weirdly tearful.

The gifts, the lights, the songs, the traditions, the customs;  you know they represent all that is good in this life, and perversely your reaction to them is one of mild sadness.

For anyone who embraces the festive season with all the gusto of a seven-year-old, this response is wholly inconceivable, but it’s important to remember that for the person experiencing it, it’s just as difficult to understand.

When you’re surrounded by loved ones all of whom are happily celebrating the season, and yet you can’t muster even a fraction of their enthusiasm, Christmas can be an isolating experience.

You go through the motions, you balance your time as best as you can, and you often purposely take part in activities which are designed to make you feel festive, and yet the depth of your response is skin-deep, at best.

Psychologists have long since insisted that Christmas Blues are normal, and list the various reasons why Christmas can be one of the most depressing times of the year.

But what happens when their explanations cite circumstance which you simply can’t relate to, like bereavement, illness, financial strain, or loneliness?

Inevitably, you feel like a fraud; a self-indulgent Grinch.

You shake yourself and question why the idea of your mam on Christmas morning makes you tear up.

You give yourself a talking-to and wonder why the notion of your father wrapping your present makes you feel inexplicably tearful.

You beat yourself up and ponder why even the most cheerful Christmas songs leave you feeling vaguely downcast.

Sometimes it comes down to the fact that the intensity of the entire festive season – two and half months in Ireland if we’re honest – is simply too much.

And that’s OK.

Let’s, for a moment, suppose that birthdays are your thing.

Celebrating it for more than a day might sound appealing, but celebrating it for a month sounds absurd.

You simply can’t maintain that level of engagement, and the longer it goes on, the more time you have to reflect on the elements of the last year you aren’t happy with.

The same goes for Christmas; the longer it goes on, the harder it is to feel enthusiastic, and the more intense it becomes, the harder it is to find the joy in the simpler elements.

It can seem like an all-singing, all-dancing bonanza, and frankly you’re not about it.

Having the Christmas Blues can be a normal reaction to the fervour of the season's frivolity; and the sooner you learn to stop chastising yourself over it, the better.

Kylie Jenner has created an apic makeup empire thanks to her penchant for lip liner, and in true Kardashian fashion, has collaborated with her sisters on the brand.

With big sister Khloe, the teen released a line of lip glosses, while with Kim, the pair opted to create a series of nude matte lip sticks.

The only sister who haven't but their name to Kylie Cosmetics are Kendall and Kourtney, but that could be about to change.

A post shared by 180Slayers  (@180slayers) on

One eagle-eyed KUWTK fan spotted that in the background of an ad for an upcoming episode, there is a mysterious empty lip gloss tube mixed in with some Kylie Cosmetics samples.

The empty tube clearly has the work Kourtney stamped across it in bold letters.

Kourtney, hailed as the sassiest and most sarcastic sister, has been our fave Kardashian from the get-go, and we would love to see what she and Ky could come up with.

With Kourtney's penchant for a nude lip and sheer highlight, we're hoping for something with a neutral, natural feel.

However, with Kylie's Kourt K lip kit, dedicated to her big sis, she opted for a dramatic, vampy purple, so who knows what the sisters are going to pull out of the (makeup) bag?

We're sure Kylie will be the one updating us via Snapchat, as is her usual method of announcing new makeup endeavours.

Let's be honest, choosing presents isn't exactly easy.

But choosing presents for a loved one who embodies all that is good in the world borders on unbearable when you refuse to settle for less.

While everyone else on your list is checked off in next to no time, you devote a serious amount of time and research to this particular person's gift, and yet you rarely feel the final choice does them justice.

If this sounds all too familiar, then you'll be relieved to know that the always luxurious L'Occitane has your back this Christmas.

Give your loved one the gift they deserve in the form of a decadent pamper package from one of the world's most desired brands.

We mean, just take a look at these and discover more about L’Occitane here!

Okay, so when I was asked to review DisneyLife, Disney's new streaming service – I was a tad nervous.

Nervous, why nervous, I hear you ask?

Well, because my expectations were sky high, and I was a little worried my sweet friends at Disney would disappoint.

Spoiler alert: they did not.

Anyway, last weekend, I cleared my not-so busy schedule, and dedicated a full Saturday to the true DisneyLife experience.

The weather was shitty and grey, so I closed the curtains, wrapped up with a mug of tea, and let the magic unfold.

First point of information – signing up is SUPER easy, which is a blessing for impatient humans like myself.

Fill in all your details (name, card number etc), select your adorable character, Minnie Mouse thank you very much, and away you go.

Also, let's talk about the price for a little moment – DisneyLife is only €6.99 a month (cheaper than other streaming services – sorry Netflix), so its a no-brainer.

Next, there were the COUNTLESS choices, I hardly knew where to begin!

Do I go old school and watch The Little Mermaid, or do I embrace the modern world of Disney, and watch Frozen for the 87th time? That's when I realised that the fun doesn't stop at animation, as I scrolled through I saw that SISTER ACT was an option.

Sold.

There were so many amazing movies to choose from, which leads me to the discussion of my favourite DisneyLife feature – the offline mode.

I travel quite a bit, and tend not to love the movies shown on planes, but that is no longer an issue for me! DisneyLife allows you to download movies and shows while in Internet, and then you can watch them forever – No wi-fi? No problem.

All-in-all, I reckon there are a number of days in my future where I will be snuggled up in bed, binge watching Disney movies.

DisneyLife is class. End of.
