Choosing to take the cruelty-free route in your beauty endeavours isn’t as easy as most of us would hope.

Like anything worthwhile, it takes time, research and dedication.

And even after educating yourself on the brands which opt for the ethical route and choose not to test on animals, you may find it takes some time to replenish your beauty collection.

Thankfully, this isn’t the case when it comes to our favourite ethical hair care range.

The perfect essentials#manentailbeauty

A post shared by Mane ‘n Tail Beauty (@manentailbeauty) on

It may have originated in the United States, but Mane ‘n Tail, which is one of the world’s most celebrated cruelty-free ranges, is now available in your local Dunnes Stores, which means making the leap has never been easier.

But, what else sets the brand apart aside from their ethical approach?

Well, let’s see; there’s the retro packaging which gives more than a passing nod to the aesthetic of the 70s, the stunning scent we can’t get enough of, and the unique formula which contains a blend of essential oils and a combination of silk proteins which leaves hair longer, fuller. stronger and healthier.

Oh, and then there’s the fact that the product was originally created for horses. We know, talk about your talking points.

Our new Color Protect formula leaves your hair vibrant much longer and is the perfect holiday stocking stuffer

And with the recent creation of two brand-new products, we’re even more enamoured.

With two years development behind them, Mane ‘n Tail’s new Color Protect Shampoo and Conditioner is a godsend for anyone who loathes seeing the vibrancy of their locks diminish with every wash.

If you’re going cruelty-free, want a formula so gentle it can be used on everyone from the salon to the stable, and still haven’t yet settled on a hair range, need we say any more?

So, while popular culture has painted a picture of the eligible bachelor vs the desperate woman, it turns out quite the opposite is true.

And while we're pretty sure most people are able to see through these inaccurate and downright offensive stereotypes, science is here to debunk the myth once and for all.

A new study conducted by dating website eHarmony found the 71 per cent of single men felt “significant pressure” to find a romantic partner compared to just 58 per cent of single women.

Research also found that men were more likely to feel lonely when they're not in a relationship, with 47 per cent of participants admitted that it was one of the worst things about being single.

Dr Linda Papadopoulos, eHarmony psychologist, said: “Surprising though it may seem, it's single men rather than women who feel under more pressure to find a partner.”

“They also report higher levels of loneliness. This challenges the traditional idea of the happy-go-lucky bachelor who is more suited to single life than his female equivalent,” she added.

What's more, the study also revealed what people miss most about the single life. Answers included things like personal independence, time for new hobbies and the freedom to enjoy new sexual relationships.

Rather surprisingly, just 41 per cent of people said they would rather be with themselves than with the wrong person, while 77 per cent said they suffered from loneliness whilst single.

Romain Bertrand, of eHarmony, said: “ Of course, it's encouraging to see that many people actively enjoy being on their own and have strong ties with family and friends.

“However, we also know that many singles feel burnt out and jaded by casual dating.”

There's ups and downs to everything, really.

So, while the avocado may be one of 2017's most popular foods, it looks like not everyone has got the hang of them just yet.

Medical staff at Dublin's Beaumont Hospital are urging people to exercise caution when preparing one of this year's trendiest foods.

According to reports, “avocado hand” is on the rise as a record number of people present themselves to A&E with the self-inflicted knife injury.

A record in the November-December edition of the Irish Medical Journal (IMJ) describes how a 32-year-old woman admitted herself to Beaumont Hospital's A&E department this year after accidentally stabbing herself in the finger while trying to de-stone the fruit.

The reports goes on to explain how the kitchen knife was impaled in the woman's hand as well as the avocado.

Medics at Beaumont’s Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery say people need to be more aware of the dangers.

“The public needs to be educated on the potential dangers of preparing avocados.”

“Celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver has released a short video demonstrating a safe method to cut and de-stone an avocado by simply using a chopping board.”

In the case of the 32-year-old woman, the knife was removed and the finger nerve was repaired, however, medics have warned that these types of injuries have the potential to to cause significant neurovascular, tendinous and/or bony injuries.

Wrap up warm – the cold weather isn't going anywhere just yet.

Commuters are urged to take extreme care this morning as a low temperature warning remains in place across the country.

Last night saw temperatures drop to as low a minus four degrees Celsius in some places, resulting in widespread frost and treacherous conditions.

The cold weather looks set to continue today with maximum temperatures ranging from three to seven degrees.

Showers of sleet and hill snow are also expected, particularly in parts of the north.

Tonight will be mainly dry in the midlands and eastern parts of the country, though scattered showers will become widespread by morning.

Temperatures will become slightly milder overnight with highs of one to five degrees Celsius.

Update – Latest statement from Ryanair:

“Less than 28% of Ryanair’s Dublin (over 300) pilots have voted in favour of unspecified industrial action.

“Ryanair has received no notification of any industrial action by its Dublin pilots so we suspect this is more PR activity by Aer Lingus pilots group IALPA, to distract from their failure in negotiating a paltry 3% pay increase for Aer Lingus pilots.

Now that Ryanair’s Cork, Shannon and Belfast bases have agreed 20% pay increases we expect the Dublin pilots to follow this trend. However, if Ryanair’s Dublin pilots are misled by some Aer Lingus pilots into industrial action then they will lose their favourable rosters (5on/4off, a double bank holiday every week) and remuneration benefits that are specifically linked by agreement to dealing directly with Ryanair.

This might be the first time in Irish history that a few Aer Lingus pilots persuade Ryanair pilots earning between €150,000 to €180,000 p.a. to take up industrial action instead of a 20% pay increase when Aer Lingus pilots are only getting 3%.

If any such industrial action occurs Ryanair will still not engage with, or recognise, Aer Lingus pilots or their IALPA union”.

Earlier:

Ryanair's Dublin-based pilots have voted  to back industrial action in a ballot carried out this afternoon.

The move comes amid a dispute over pay and conditions as well as collective bargaining and negotiating rights.

According to RTÉ, pilots believe that the company's collective bargaining structures weaken the negotiating powers of employees.

It was also reported that pilots at bases in Dublin, London Stansted and Madrid have rejected proposals from management around pay and conditions.

It's understood that Ryanair has ordered an emergency meeting for its Dublin staff at the Swords headquarters.

However, in a statement this evening, the airline said it had not received any notification of industrial action.

It read: “Ryanair has received no notification of any industrial action by its Dublin pilots so we suspect this is more PR activity by Aer Lingus pilots group IALPA, to distract from their failure in negotiating a paltry 3% pay increase for Aer Lingus pilots.”

Electric Picnic organisers have announced that next year's festival will kick off with an all-female comedy line-up.

Taking place on Thursday night, some of Ireland's best-loved female comics will take to The Hazel Wood stage where they will perform to a crowd of 5,000 early entry ticket holders.

The idea came about following a chance meeting between festival director, Melvin Benn and Emily O'Callaghan.

Emily, who sometimes dabbles in the world of stand-up, noticed a distinct lack of female talent at last year's festival – a thought echoed by Melvin.

The stellar line-up will see performances from the likes of Joanne Mc Nally MC, Aoife Dooley , Lisa Casey, Sharon Mannion, Aine Gallagher, Harriet Braine , Ashlee Bentley and many, many more.

Early entry tickets are priced at €25 and are on sale now.

Note: Early entry tickets are only valid with weekend camping tickets.

Reading this at work? – You might want to put down the cuppa before we go any further.

So, it's no secret that office workers all over the country consume an impressive, albeit slightly worrying, amount of tea on a daily basis.

Whether your looking for an excuse to take a sneaky break, or simply just in desperate need of a pick-me-up, it's amazing how a little stroll to the kitchen can make the working day feel just a tad bit more bearable.

However, it's looks like we might need to find a new way to break up the day, because a worrying new study has found that office teabags can carry up to 17 times more germs than a toilet seat.

Research carried out by the Initial Washroom Hygiene revealed that the average bacterial reading of an office teabag was 3,785, compared to just 220, for a toilet seat.

And as if that wasn't enough to turn you off ever stepping foot inside the office kitchen ever again, other common equipment also ranked high on the gross scale.

Bacterial readings of the average kettle handles were 2,483, while fridge doors came in at 1,592.

Dr Peter Barratt of Initial Washroom Hygiene says we all need to be more aware of the potential dangers that lie in our communal eating spaces.

“If you stop to think about the number of different hands that touch things such as the kettle handle, tea bag box lid, mugs, and so on, the potential for cross contamination really adds up,” he explains.

“Using anti-bacterial wipes on kitchen surfaces and regularly cleaning your mug can pay huge dividends in terms of maintaining a healthy workforce.”

If anyone's looking for us we'll be eating our lunches in the bathroom stalls.
