Yearly Archives: 2017

While many have applauded Time magazine's decision to honour the women who were instrumental in launching a movement which highlighted the pervasive nature of sexual violence, not everyone is impressed.

The publication's annual Person of the Year came in the form of many people, now known as The Silence Breakers, and while Demi Lovato praises their choice, she's outraged by their chosen runner-up.

Referring to the cover which features Ashley Judd, Susan Fowler, Adama Iwu, Taylor Swift, and Isabel Pascual, the singer took issue with the publication's decision to place Donald Trump in second place.

Taking to Twitter in recent days, Demi wrote: "Time mag highlights brave women coming forward against sexual assault on the cover but names a man with sexual assault allegations against him runner up to person of the year.. Really @TIME? #hypocrites."

Demi's outrage can be seen in her follow-up tweet where she says she felt compelled to speak out as praise was heaped upon the iconic cover.

"I’ve become less vocal about my distain for certain people over the past year because it only divides our country even more but this is worth speaking up about. @TIME mag – very disappointed in your hypocrisy and disrespect toward the women on your cover," she added.

Questioning the process which determines the winner, she added: "To be named POTY by @TIME it should be for doing something positive or brave LIKE the women on the cover. It’s annoying that it’s just about impact on the news."

Demi's tweets have amassed tens of thousands of likes in recent days.

Unless you've stayed bundled beneath your duvet for the last day or so, you'll know that it's absolutely baltic outside.

And it's not about to get any warmer any time soon.

Indeed, Met Éireann have issued a Status Orange weather warning to the entire country ahead of below freezing temperatures and snowfall.

While today will be mostly dry, rainfall later tonight will eventually bring snow, with forecasters advising: "The rain will be heavy and persistent and will bring local spot flooding to the south and southwest. As it moves northwards it will turn to snow, bringing large accumulations to Connacht, the midlands and much of Leinster."

Temperatures will drop to as low as -5 degrees tonight, with winds remaining moderate to fresh southeast to east, becoming strong westerly in Munster by morning.

Forecasters say "Sunday will see further heavy rain and snow falls. Temperatures in the afternoon will struggle to rise above freezing in the north and will linger between 1 and 4 degrees for much of the country."

As of Sunday night, forecasters advise the entire country to exercise caution, saying: "The widespread, severe frost will bring treacherous driving conditions to the whole country with all areas at risk."

"Sleet and snow will continue for a time, but will gradually die away as the night goes on."

It's a weekend for an open fire and a mug of hot chocolate, ladies.

There is on particular outfit that truly sums up noughties fashion for anyone who was a teenager from 2000-2009, and that has to be UGG boots and a Juicy Couture tracksuit.

Whether you opted for the Penneys version or managed to convince your parents to splash the cash on the real deal, we are the generation who grew up wearing UGGs to every occasion.

We would have worn them out to the disco is we we're allowed – although actually, we probably did wear them to many discos (don't judge, they went perfectly with our three-tiered mini-skirt and disc belt).

A post shared by tredscouk (@tredsofficial) on

Former fashion sins aside, UGG have recently revealed a new product that would have perfectly fixed our 'UGG boots or high heels?' dilemma of discos past.

Introducing the heeled UGG boot. No, this is not a drill.

UGG have introduced the Kasen Casual Boot, which features all of the comfort and warmth one would usually associate with UGGs along with a dress code elevating heel.

UGG Australia

Never ones to miss a trend, UGG have also come out with a sassy over-the-knee version og the heeled UGG boot.

Before you pass them off as a novelty UGG item, be warned, Rosie Huntington-Whitely recently wore a pair and looked like a complete babe while doing so, so they may catch on.

Frankly with the weather we've been having,m a pair of UGGs sounds quite appealing…

Aeroplanes are a scary enough place to be at the best of times, never mind having to worry about being harassed by your fellow passengers.

You're hurtling through the air at about 12km above the ground, and a man decides it would be a great idea to place his hand on your lap – what do you do?

Well, one woman faced this exact level of harassment while travelling on a plane, and the case is currently being investigate by the FBI.

A female passenger on a United Airlines flight was travelling from New Jersey to Charlotte, North Carolina.

During the flight, the 73-year-old man sitting beside her allegedly groped her between her legs.

The woman alerted airline staff of the alleged assault, and they were separated.

The man blamed his hand movement on turbulence.

Sources told WSOC-TV that they saw commotion on the plane, and that the man was escorted off the aircraft by authorities after it landed.

'Im sure a woman knows the difference between a hand hitting her versus being groped,' another passenger told WSOC-TV.

According to their sources, the incident is now being investigated by the FBI as it happened in the air.

JK Rowling faced criticism this week after defending the choice to cast Johnny Depp in the upcoming film The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The film, a spin-off from the iconic Harry Potter series, will feature Depp as the leading character.

Depp was accused of domestic violence and abuse by his ex-partner Amber Heard during their divorce proceedings. Rowling released a statement on her website to say:

'The huge, mutually supportive community that has grown up around Harry Potter is one of the greatest joys of my life.'

'For me personally, the inability to speak openly to fans about this issue has been difficult, frustrating and at times painful.'

'However, the agreements that have been put in place to protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives, must be respected.'

'Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.'

Rowling's statement was met with massive disappointment from fans.

Many accused her of hypocrisy, after penning a famous novel series about an abused boy to then defend someone who is an alleged domestic abuser.

A post shared by Amber Heard (@amberheard) on

Amber herself has accused the author of taking her statement following her 2016 divorce from Depp out of context.

'To pick and choose certain lines and quote them out of context, is just not right,' she posted to Instagram.

'Women, continue to stand up and stay strong.'

Piers Morgan has been slammed by model and actress Emily Ratajkowski for questioning how she can be a feminist and a sexual being.

The Good Morning Britain co-hot and professional Twitter troll told viewers that he was confused by Emily's feminism after a video of her posing provocatively on a dinner table was released,

'Emily, writhing in spaghetti, she’s what it’s all about,' he stated, comparing Emily's provocative work to that of the more conservative Taylor Swift.

A post shared by Emily Ratajkowski (@emrata) on

'Women, sort it out. We are confused,' he continued, demonstrating that he does not understand how a woman can believe in feminism while simultaneously being sexy.

Emily heard about his statements, and decided to help him out:

'I never said my love video was a feminist statement,' Emily clarified on Twitter.

A post shared by Emily Ratajkowski (@emrata) on

'But now it’s worth saying that telling women what to do with their bodies and sexuality is actually just classic sexism.'

'I can have opinions about feminism and also do sexy photo shoots, k thanks.'

I mean, how dare a woman believe in equality between the genders and showcase her body? The outrage… *eyeroll emoji*

Piers didn't stop there.

He later took to Twitter to say:

'I hope my daughter aspires to a more substantial feminist ideal than writhing semi-naked in spaghetti for publicity & Instagram likes.'

'If a man writhed semi-naked in spaghetti to promote male empowerment, feminists would mock him to humiliating death. If you want equality, do the same to women who pull this stunt.'

So the rumours were true – Kylie Jenner will officially be selling her makeup products from the back of a truck.

Last week, the 20-year-old makeup mogul trademarked the terms 'Kylie Jenner Truck' and 'Kylie Truck.'

This led many to specualte that she had a new method of makeup distribution up her sleeve, and her latest snaps prove that to be the case.

A post shared by Kylie Truck (@kylietruck) on

The alleged mum-to-be uploaded a series of Snapchat pictures showcasing her new wheels.

Decked out in millennial pink paint with a dripping silver lipstick motif, the truck is extremely on brand.

Kylie's products are currently only available online and through pop-up stores, which have only been hosted in the USA.

Perhaps the reality TV star wanted to make her brand mobile, and therefore more accessible to the masses?

However, these masses must be residing in LA only, as according to Kylie, that's where the truck will be circulated.

According to Ky, they will be at 'key locations around town.'

A post shared by Kylie Cosmetics (@kyliecosmetics) on

With her products being notoriously hard to get hold of, and following the recent drama surrounding her new products, the trucks are sure to be a big hit.

Any chance that town could be in Ireland next time, hun?
