Last month, the Australian public have voted to legalise same-sex marriage.

The move meant that the country's parliament could formally begin the process of legislating for the union.

The results of the parliaments' vote was overwhelmingly in favour of same-sex marriage, and in celebration, the entire room burst into song.

Australian MPs endorsed marriage equality and broke into a round of applause, cheers, and began singing.

The officials sang  I Am Australian by The Seekers, and one or two could be seen wiping away tears of joy after the announcement.

Only four MPs did not back the reform.

Their delighted reaction is currently going viral, as the world looked on anticipating their decision.

From this Saturday onwards, same-sex couples will be able to register to get married in Australia.

'What a day for love, for equality, for respect. Australia has done it,' Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said, according to Sky News.

We all saw it happen with the all-female remake of Ghostbusters, and Sandra Bullock is refusing to see it happen with Ocean's 8.

Discussing the spin-off movie of the Ocean's Trilogy, the Oscar-winner, who will play Danny Ocean’s ex-con sister Debbie, urged critics to suspend their cynicism and wait for the movie's release before casting aspersions on it.

Paying tribute to her co-stars, Sandra told Entertainment Weekly: "I mean, I’ll tell you, we’ve got some feisty women that will fight right back. It’s like, let’s just take a breath and let’s just see if we come up with something fun."

"There should be a moratorium," she argued. "There should be a rule, you’re not allowed to say anything nasty until after it comes out. Obviously that’s never going to happen."

Sandra is keen to remind film-goers that she is not attempting an all-female remake (although, kudos if she was), but instead creating a whole new story – an endeavour which shouldn't warrant criticism.

"We’re not a reboot," she explains of the movie which will star Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson and Rihanna. "We’re just a 'this is what’s happening in 2017'."

"It’s not even a passing of the torch. It’s a parallel story of another family member that was raised in the same family Danny Ocean was and what happens when Debbie steps out of jail with all of these amazing, powerful women."

Sandra has taken great solace from the all-female cast, telling the publication: "We all were like, okay, let’s just take care of each other for these six months and relish this opportunity we’re being given."

While Sandra certainly sees the merit in the approach, she refuses to be pigeonholed by lazy critics.

"We don’t want it to be just for women. This is not a man-hating. We love the men. There’s men in this movie. We love them. But this one heist needs women."

Hear, hear!

As more and more stories emerged regarding Harvey Weinstein's abhorrent treatment of women and repugnant abuse of power within the entertainment industry, more and more stars admitted that they had always been aware, on some level, of Weinstein's predations.

From whispered warnings to mumbled utterances, it seems Weinstein's criminal behaviour was Hollywood's best kept secret.

However, this perspective may be somewhat skewed if recent remarks made by Jennifer Lawrence are anything to go by.

While acknowledging Weinstein's formidable reputation within the industry, Jennifer insisted that his crimes came as a total shock when accusations were made public in recent months.

"Just speaking for myself, I had known him since I was 20, and he had only ever been nice to me – except for the moments that he wasn’t, and then I called him an a-hole, and we moved on," she told Oprah Winfrey in the Hollywood Reporter.

As those in Hollywood's inner circle mobilised to speak out against the culture of misogyny in the entertainment industry, Jennifer admitted she couldn't speak out until she had processed the revelations.

"There was this moment when all of this broke out and everybody was silent, and then all of a sudden, every actress’ Twitter was blowing up with, ‘You need to come forward and you need to say something and you need to condemn!’ Which is true: We do have a responsibility to say something; we’ve all worked with him, but everybody needed a moment."

"I didn’t know that he was a rapist. And it’s so widespread, the abuse, from so many different people — it’s directors, it’s producers — that I think everybody needed to [process it]. Everybody needs to deal with this in their own way; everybody needs to heal.”

Jennifer said she struggled to reconcile the man she knew with the man who was being written about in the papers, and while she acknowledged his professional shortcomings, she could not conceive of his alleged crimes.

"He was paternal to me," Jennifer said. "So I needed a moment to process everything because I thought I knew this guy, and then he’s being accused of rape. We all knew he was a dog, we knew that he was a … tough guy, a brute, a tough guy to negotiate with."

Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment, assault and rape by numerous women over the course of a number of years.

Earlier this week, Time Magazine revealed that their annual Person of the Year would actually come in the form of many people, now known as The Silence Breakers.

Paying tribute to the voices that launched a movement which highlighted the pervasive nature of sexual violence and misogyny, Time featured Ashley Judd, Susan Fowler, Adama Iwu, Taylor Swift, and Isabel Pascual on their iconic cover.

However, you may have also noticed the arm of another person in the bottom right hand corner of the image which isn't actually attached to any of the women featured.

Explaining its presence, Time national correspondent Charlotte Alter told BuzzFeed News that the elbow was a deliberate inclusion, representing the women who came forward but chose to remain anonymous.

"In the bottom left of the cover, there is an arm where you just see the elbow and you don't see the person," she acknowledged "That's very intentional."

"That's an anonymous woman who is a hospital worker who was experiencing harassment and didn't feel that she could come forward [publicly]."

"It's important to include people who have to stay anonymous for professional reasons, who don't have the resources to weather what would happen if they lost their job or they couldn't support their families. So we wanted to include [these people] to really reference the risk that these women are taking by speaking out about this."

Like Taylor Swift, Charlotte accepted that while strides have been made, society still has a long way to go.

"A huge part of this story is that, as much as the stigma around this has been removed this year because of the Me Too movement, it's still really difficult for a lot of women to come forward."

If you're still attempting to warm up after your morning commute, you're not alone. And it doesn't sound like this morning's weather is going to get any milder any time soon.

Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow weather warning, forecasting snow, wind and ice for most parts of the country over the next 24 hours.

"The showers will turn increasingly wintry with falls of hail and snow – especially in the north, and a few will push further south this evening. Northwest winds will be strong and gust," reads the official website.

"Wintry showers will be widespread overnight and frequent in the north with accumulations of snow over inland parts of Ulster and other northern areas."

"Mainly dry across the south and southwest. Northwest winds will stay strong and gusty. A widespread sharp ground frost will form during clear spells with icy patches forming widely."

And as for tomorrow? Met Éireann warn it will be 'very cold again' on Friday,  with a few sunny spells, but with occasional wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow .

There will be further accumulations of snow over northern counties and over high ground elsewhere.

Ladies, time to rebuild the duvet fort.

According to emerging reports this morning, a garda and another individual have sustained injuries following a shooting in Ballymun earlier today.

The incident occurred during a drugs raid which saw armed officers from the Emergency Response Unit support unarmed colleagues.

It is believed the shooting began from within the house on Barnwell Drive as officers attempted to gain entry.

A garda spokesman has elaborated on the incident, saying: "Two people have been injured, a Garda and male civilian, both were treated at the scene by trained Gardaí and DFB."

"They have taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening."

It has been established that the Garda Ombudsman has been notified of this morning's incident due to the fact a gun was discharged by a garda member during a planned operation.

The area around the home has been sealed off and Gardaí remain at the scene.

In August of this year, Taylor Swift testified in court against DJ David Mueller, who sexually assaulted her during a meet and greet in 2013.

The court heard that Mueller placed his hand under the singer's skirt and despite Taylor attempting to create distance between herself and him, Mueller did not release his grasp.

The high-profile court case made headline all over the world, with millions championing Taylor's courage and candour during her testimony.

Indeed, Time magazine has chosen to recognise the Shake It Off singer as one of their Silence Breakers – women who, this year, spoke out about the culture of sexual harassment and victim blaming.

Speaking to the acclaimed publication, Taylor insisted that victim-blaming has no place in society, saying: "You should not be blamed for waiting 15 minutes or 15 days or 15 years to report sexual assault or harassment, or for the outcome of what happens to a person after he or she makes the choice to sexually harass or assault you."

Taylor believes that, unfortunately, being able to navigate this attitude is vital, saying: "I would tell people who find themselves in this situation that there is a great deal of blame placed on the victims in cases of sexual harassment and assault."

"You could be blamed for the fact that it happened, for reporting it and blamed for how you reacted. You might be made to feel like you’re overreacting, because society has made this stuff seem so casual."

"My advice is that you not blame yourself and do not accept the blame others will try to place on you," she urged.

Contemporary commentary would have you believe that we have turned a corner in this regard, but Taylor is eager to remind the public that there is still a long way to go.

"Even though awareness is higher than ever about workplace sexual harassment, there are still so many people who feel victimized, afraid and silenced by their abusers and circumstances," she asserted.

"When the jury found in my favour, the man who sexually assaulted me was court-ordered to give me a symbolic $1. To this day he has not paid me that dollar, and I think that act of defiance is symbolic in itself."

The ISPCA is appealing for new homes for a number of cats currently in the care of the ISPCA National Animal Centre in Longford, o if you're a true cat-lover, this could be your opportunity to make a feline friend.

The cattery is now full to capacity with over 50 cats and kittens needing good homes.

So far this year, 351 cats and kittens have been responsibly rehomed from the Centre, 207 of which originated from an ex-research facility, with 144 being seized by or surrendered to our Inspectors.

50 cats remain at the ex-research facility and the ISPCA would like to be able to remove them before Christmas.

The charity is appealing to members of the public to consider adopting one of these super friendly cats if they are considering getting a new pet. All the cats are fully vet checked, vaccinated, treated for parasites, litter trained, neutered or spayed and they will need to be re-homed as indoor cats only.

Eva Ellis, ISPCA Centre Manager said: "These adorable cats will make wonderful pets plus they are naturally independent making them perfect companions for people with busy lifestyles."

"They love nothing more than to sit on a lap and be cuddled plus the mere act of stroking a cat has been known to release endorphins in our brain associated with well-being and happiness, linked to lowering blood pressure as well as lowering the risk of heart disease."

Eva continued: “We are however struggling to find new owners to adopt these gorgeous cats and with so many in our care, we are under pressure to find room to take in an additional 50 cats due to be removed from ex research laboratory by the end of December”.

“Despite spending their entire life living in a clinical environment with limited stimuli, these cats are all adorably interactive and love attention”.

Cats and kittens are not only puuurrrfect company but having a cat/pet also teaches children compassion and responsibility.  By understanding and respecting your cats’ needs and dignity, you’ll be passing on an important message to our younger generation.

Once we find new homes for these adorable cats and kittens patiently waiting for new homes, it will help free up space in our cattery to help find more cats and kittens a new family to call their own.

You can visit the ISPCA National Animal Centre  Wednesday to Sunday from 11:30 to 4pm, email  info@ispca.ie or call  043 33 25035 (0) Visit the ISPCA website on http://www.ispca.ie/rehoming/cats_rehoming/ to see the many cats and kittens looking for good homes.
