The Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) and the Health Service Executive (HSE) are today advising consumers to be vigilant for counterfeit ‘high-end’ beauty products on sale through certain outlets, markets and websites in the lead up to Christmas.

Tests carried out by the HSE on a number of the 728 counterfeit and imitation products that the HPRA has detained, identifies some contain harmful substances, such as arsenic and lead, which can be potentially harmful to people’s health. Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner and Urban Decay were among some of the forged cosmetic brands which were found to contain these illegal substances.

The counterfeit products detained by the HPRA include, Kylie Holiday-Burgundy and Bronze eyeshadow palettes, Kylie Matte liquid lipstick and lip liner, and Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes.

The HPRA warns that the Christmas season is the peak time of year for rogue sellers of counterfeit products and shoppers are strongly urged to avoid these potentially harmful products.

The HPRA states that over the past few months significant quantities of counterfeit and imitation cosmetics have been seized on entry to the country by Revenue’s Customs Service.

The majority of counterfeit cosmetic products seized have been eye-shadows and lip products. Some of these products can be purchased online from websites based outside of the EU and are being sold to Irish consumers online and through social media. They have also been found in some trade shows and at markets throughout the country.

Aoife Farrell, Cosmetics Compliance Manager, HPRA, states:“The HPRA is extremely concerned that highly toxic substances, such as arsenic and lead, have been detected in products which are available to Irish consumers."

"Prolonged exposure to both of these banned substances can severely damage your health causing potential harm to your brain and kidneys, among other organs. The suppliers of these products are unconcerned about the health of the consumers who purchase them."

"We can’t emphasise enough the need for consumers to be vigilant when purchasing cosmetics this Christmas; while they may be sold at a cheaper cost than legitimate beauty products, it is never worth gambling with your health when buying these products.”

“As well as the possible toxic ingredients which may be contained in counterfeit cosmetics, the way the products are manufactured and the safety and cleanliness of the production environment is unknown, which is another reason to avoid purchasing and using these cosmetics at all cost.”

The HPRA highlights that the genuine Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner are currently only available from the company’s website in the USA, and other genuine high-end cosmetic products are usually only available through high street stores or pharmacies.

he HPRA and the HSE advise extreme caution if consumers are offered such products at markets or through non-reputable websites. In Ireland, the market surveillance of cosmetic products is carried out by the HPRA and Environmental Health Service and Public Analysts’ Laboratories of the HSE.

“Beauty brands usually list their licensed retailers on their websites and this is an easy way for consumers to ensure that they are purchasing a genuine cosmetic product. If a product is much cheaper than in a high street store or pharmacy, consumers should be immediately suspicious and think twice before buying the beauty product,” Ms Farrell advised.

We all know that our pre-sleep routine plays a massive role in the quality of our night's sleep.

And if yours involves scrolling through your phone and running through your to-do list, you're seriously missing a trick when it comes to a restful night.

According to sleep researchers, a brilliant night's sleep can be yours as long as you dedicate some time to achieving The Big O.

A recent study determined that two thirds of people slept better after having sex, but – and here's the kicker – only if it involved an orgasm for both parties.

Studying 460 adults between the ages of 18 and 70, Dr. Michele Lastella confirmed the importance an orgasm can have on the shut-eye you get in its aftermath..

Speaking to Adelaide Now, Dr Lastella said: "What we found was 64 percent of our respondents indicated they slept better when sex was with a partner and it involves an orgasm.”

"There’s strong evidence to suggest substituting screen time for play time. When you’re engaging in sex, you’re not thinking about what to do the next day, you’re not going through your phones. It distracts you."

You heard him, ladies.

On Tuesday, a Democratic congressman vowed to force the House of Representatives to vote on POTUS Donald Trump's impeachment.

Representative Al Green of Texas intends to bring articles of impeachment against Trump following discussions with party members.

Communicating his intentions to colleagues, Green wrote: "For too long, we have allowed our civility to prevent us from confronting the invidious incivility of President Donald J. Trump."

"In doing this, hatred disguised as acceptable political correctness has festered in our body politic and polluted our discourse to our detriment."

"It divides and damages the social fabric of our country in ways that obstruction of justice cannot. It causes unparalleled destruction to our society in the long- and short-term that will not easily healed."

Green's intentions have raised concerns among other Democrats, however, with some arguing that the move may be premature and ultimately work against them.

The House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, has publicly opposed the idea.

Earlier this week, we reported that convicted rapist, Brock Turner, was seeking to have his conviction overturned.

Turner's legal team are insisting that the jury was misled and ultimately exposed to misinformation which resulted in their client's conviction.

Speaking to NBC, Turner's lawyer, John Tompkins, stated the team's position, saying: ‘What we are saying is that what happened is not a crime. It happened, but it was not anywhere close to a crime.’

In response to the appeal, A Care2 petition is asking the California 6th District Court of Appeal not to overturn Brock Turner’s rape conviction.

Explaining the motivation behind the online petition, which has amassed more than 33,000 signatures so far, its creator, Kelsey Bourgeois, insists Turner is a danger to society.

"Brock Turner became famous last year when he raped an unconscious woman behind a dumpster and then was given EXTREME leniency because he was a white, male athlete at Stanford."

“Turner was literally discovered in the act of sexually assaulting a passed out drunk victim. He should have gotten 14 years in California."

"He was sentenced to six months and only served three. Now we wants off the sex offender registry. But he has shown no remorse, and 60 pages of his lawyer's appeal focuses on how drunk his victim was.

"He is a clear and present threat to people around him and he must stay on the sex offender registry.”

Comments beneath the petition point to the public's growing concerns, with one person writing: "I fear this is another step in a shocking trend where laws are beginning to mean nothing in this country."

On March 8 of this year, Ireland played host to the Strike 4 Repeal rally – an event which saw the participation of thousands of people around the country who were determined to see a repeal of the 8th amendment.

And according to the Strike 4 Repeal Facebook page this morning, another one is in the works.

Alongside a video which featured footage of the events which played out on International Women's Day this year, Strike 4 Repeal wrote: "Time's up! Do we trust the government to ask the right question?"

Guiding members of the public towards a pledge, the organisers wrote: "Strike 4 Repeal will be holding a national strike if the Government does not commit to a clear yes or no question on a referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment."

"We are also calling on the Government to provide for free, safe and legal abortion services on request in Ireland. This is essential for all women and pregnant people to ensure their right to reproductive healthcare is guaranteed, regardless of circumstances."

"By taking this pledge you are telling the Government that you are prepared to strike if these requirements are not met. Should it become clear during the Dáil debate on the referendum that they intend to water down our rights, we will contact you with at least one week's notice to announce the date for a national strike."

"Every pledge will send a clear message that we won't wait any longer. Now is the time for repeal and full abortion rights in Ireland."

The entertainment industry was left reeling when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt parted ways in 2016.

After 12 years together, the press and public wasted no time speculating as to the catalyst for the separation.

Up until recently, both parties kept quiet on the subject, with Angelina only admitting in September that she's struggling in the aftermath of the high-profile divorce.

Indeed, it seems Angelina was doing everything in her power to save her marriage prior to the split, with the actress confirming she sought to work on set with Brad as some form of quick fix.

Referring to 2015's By The Sea, Angelina said she thought their craft would unite them, but it only highlighted their discontent.

"We had met working together and we worked together well," she told The Hollywood Reporter's podcast, Awards Chatter. "I wanted us to do some serious work together."

"I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate," she admitted before adding that in some respects it did help, but not in the ways she anticipated.

"In some ways it was, and in some ways we learned some things," she said. "But there was a heaviness probably during that situation that carried on and it wasn't because of the film."

While suggesting that the film signalled the beginning of the end for the couple, Angelina expressed gratitude that they came to some form of realisation together.

"I'm glad we did that film because we did explore something together. Whatever it was maybe it didn't solve certain things, but we did communicate something that needed to be communicated to each other."

Brad and Angelina share six children together.

In March of this year, Danny Masterson, who was perhaps best known for his role in That 70s Show, was accused of rape.

Despite these allegations. which date back to the early 2000s, Masterson was allowed to keep his role on Netflix's The Ranch.

However, due to a recent petition campaigning for Masterson's dismissal, bosses at The Ranch have dismissed the actor.

The petition, which amassed almost 40,000 signatures, drew attention to Netflix's decision to suspend Kevin Spacey from House of Cards, but retain Masterson on The Ranch.

Releasing a statement earlier today, a spokesperson for Netflix said: "As a result of ongoing discussions, Netflix and the producers have written Danny Masterson out of ‘The Ranch."

"Yesterday was his last day on the show, and production will resume in early 2018 without him.”

Masterson responded to the dismissal in a lengthy statement, beginning"I am obviously very disappointed in Netflix’s decision to write my character off of The Ranch."

"From day one, I have denied the outrageous allegations against me. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit. I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one."

"In this country, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, in the current climate, it seems as if you are presumed guilty the moment you are accused," he continued.

"I understand and look forward to clearing my name once and for all. In the meantime, I want to express my gratitude to the cast and crew that I’ve worked so closely with over the past three seasons. I wish them nothing but success. I am also so thankful to the fans that have supported me and continue to do so."

Danny is married to actress and model Bijou Phillips.
