Choosing Christmas presents for your boyfriend's parents can be pretty tricky.

Whether it's petty or not, you know you don't want to spend more on them than your own parents, but at the same time you know a little effort will go a very long way.

Unless you're incredibly close to your boyfriend's folks, it's hard to find a present which manages to tick the thoughtful/ personal box without overstepping the mark.

Saturday Night Live viewers have been vocal in their praise for the show's recent sketch featuring Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong and guest host, Saoirse Ronan.

Tapping into the current narrative surrounding sexual violence and the abuse of power in Hollywood, the four women deftly remind the public that the recent allegations emerging from within the entertainment industry are by no means a new phenomenon.

Dressed as a girl group from the 1980s, the costumes and set acted as a juxtapostion for the powerful message contained within the lyrics – lyrics which have struck a chord with millions this weekend.

"I guess it begs the question, 'Woah, why didn't you say something, baby girl?'" Kate sings, while Saoirse chimes in: "Well dang, double daddy, we definitely did. For hundreds of years."

Taking viewers through a brief history of female activism, the four women perfectly illustrate how this tidalwave of stories detailing sexual violence against females in the entertainment industry is just one example of an oppressive culture women are all too familiar with.

"Oh, and this ain't a girl group. We just travel in a pack for safety," they remind us.

Gardaí in the capital are appealing to the public for assistance following the disappearance of an 18-year-old youth in Dublin on Friday.

Aleks Malinowski, who is from Clondalkin, has been described as 5 ft 8 inches in height, of slim build with short brown hair which has a line shaved through it on the left side.

It is understood that Aleks was last seen wearing a green and black sports jacket, olive green tracksuit bottoms, black shoes or boots and a navy Adidas woolly hat.

He may also have been carrying a black Timberland bag.

Anyone with any information pertaining to Aleks' whereabouts are asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station.

Lawyers for Brock Turner, a university student found guilty of sexual assault in 2016, have launched an appeal against his conviction.

Prosecution in the  high-profile case last year pushed for a six-year sentence against the Stanford University student, but he was sentenced to just six months, and he walked free after just three.

This week, Turner's legal team are insisting that the jury was misled and ultimately exposed to misinformation which resulted in their client's conviction

In a motion which was obtained by BuzzFeed, Turner's team argue that his trial was ‘a detailed and lengthy set of lies’.

Speaking to NBC, Lawyer John Tompkins stated the team's position, saying: ‘What we are saying is that what happened is not a crime. It happened, but it was not anywhere close to a crime.’

Indeed, during the trial, Turner's father described his son’s sexual penetration of an intoxicated person with a foreign object and his intent to commit rape of an intoxicated woman behind a dumpster as ‘20 minutes of action’.

Turner's team want him removed from the sex offender's register and his conviction overturned.

Turner wa released from prison in September 2016 for good behaviour.

Iconic supernatural series Stranger Things has been revived for a third season. 

While it feels like we only just finished Stranger Things 2, we're already excited about the news of a third instalment. 

Stranger Things 3 hasn't even begun shooting yet though, so we shouldn't get our hopes up. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netlix will once again be the place to find the 1980s themed show. 

A return date for the series has not been scheduled (to be fair, ST2 only landed on our screens one month ago).

The Duffer brothers confirmed to the mag that there will be a time jump in the next season. 

There is a time gap of about a year between seasons one and two, so it seems we can expect something similar from season three, rather than the new season picking up directly where season two was left off. 

'Even if we wanted to hop into the action faster, we couldn't. Our kids are aging,' Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter. 

'We can only write and produce the show so fast. They're going to be almost a year older by the time we start shooting season three.'

'It provides certain challenges. You can't start right after season two ended. It forces you to do a time jump.'

Time jump or not, we're all ears for news of an estimated release date.

Gardaí in Ashbourne are investigating the discovery of a body of a man in his 20s in Co. Meath.

The man’s body was discovery this morning in a field at Walterstown, Dunboyne near the Meath / Kildare border. 

According to RTE, the man sustained gunshot wounds. 

Gardaí are however treating the death as suspicious

The body of the man remains at the scene and has yet to be formally identified, however according to RTE, Gardaí believe him to be an individual who was reported missing yesterday who is involved in organised crime. 

The scene is preserved for a forensic and technical examination.

The office of the state pathologist and local Coroner have been notified.

If you're anything like us, you grew up watching Sabrina Spellman in Sabrina the Teenage Witch navigating the murky waters of teenhood coupled with the pressures of casually being a half-witch. 

We watched in awe as she juggled high school drama with trips to the other realm, and struggled to decide which aunt was our favourite, Hilda or Zelda?

From her evil twin to that 'Harvey digs Sabrina' episode, there were plenty of iconic moments in Westbridge.

Mush to the delight of 90s and 00s kids, Netflix intends to bring back the legendary characters, but with a twist. 

The currently untitled series ,based on the Archie comic The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been snapped up by the streaming service for an initial two seasons, according to Deadline.

Riverdale writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and director Lee Toland Krieger are set to work on the pilot.

The show is set to be a departure from the bright and bubbly Sabrina show of our childhood. 

It's going to be a darker, edgier drama which sees Sabrina struggling against the forces of evil, all while maintaining a normal half-mortal life. 

No word yet on whether Salme the talking cat will make a comeback, but we don't think it would be the same without him.

Look, Christmas isn't for everyone.

Whether it's the commercialisation of the season, the onslaught of social occasions or the pressure to splurge every day between now and New Year's, Christmas isn't everyone's favourite time of year.

And as the festive season starts earlier and earlier every year, it's no surprise that more and more of us have friends and family members who would happily sit the Yuletide out.

Instead of dubbing them Scrooge and forcing them into the mandatory joviality of the season, why not celebrate them for who they are, and what they're about?

The past 12 months have been amazing for singer/song writer Ed Sheeran. 

The musician released his highly anticipated album ÷, which almost went double-platinum in Ireland, as well as leaking his lead singles from the album Shape of You and Castle on the Hill, which remain in the charts almost nine months after their release.

Ed also sold out a global stadium tour – not too shabby we think. 

With all the success and Ed-man ia gripping the globe, many thought that Ed Sheeran wa a shoe-in for a Grammy nomination. 

However, when the nominations for Album of the Year were revealed, Ed hadn't made the cut. 

He was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for Shape of You, but fans were definitely disappointed that he wasn't up for Album of the Year.

Ellen DeGeneres echoed fans sentiments, telling Sheeran in an interview that she is outraged he was not nominated for Album of the Year or Song of the Year.

'My outlook on it is like, some years you have your year and some years you don't have your year, and maybe this year wasn't my year,' he replied. 

He also said that validation for him comes from people enjoying his music, and not from awards.

We were all pretty devastated when we heard that Anna Faris and Chris Pratt were going their separate ways after eight years of marriage.

Now, the split has been made official, after Chris filed for divorce from Anna.

According to documents obtained by E News, the actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.

Anna filed her response to the divorce at the same time as Chris, and her reasoning are reported to be the same as Chris', according to TMZ.

Both are seeking joint custody of their 5-year-old son Jack. 

Since announcing their split, the couple have been focused on co-parenting their young son.

'Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating,' Chris wrote in a previous Facebook statement.

'We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed.'

The pair also tried couples counselling, which clearly wasn't the solution to their relationship woes.

Sibling love can be beautiful, enriching…. and downright hilarious.

We all know that Ryan Reynolds is gas, but the actor had us in stitches with his happy birthday wishes to his older brother yesterday.

The 41-year-old movie star is the youngest of four boys, two of whom are police officers in Canada. Like in any family with all boys, they show their love a little bit differently.

Taking to Insta, he shared a  throwback snap of himself and his older brother Jeff with his 15.7M Insta followers, saying: 

'I may have three older brothers, but only one Jeff. You were the first friend I ever had. If there was ever a fire and I had to choose a family member to save, obviously it’d be me.'

'But if I had time to save one more… and I knew it was safe to re-enter the burning building, you can be damn sure I’d call the fire department.'

'They’re experts in the field and have top quality safety gear. Not to mention experience in these matters. I love you. Happy Birthday.'

Ah, brotherly love. 

The Proposal actor is legendary for his birthday takedowns at this point. He posted to Instagram in August to wish his wife Blake Lively, with whom he has two adorable daughters, a happy 30th birthday.

'Happy Birthday to my amazing wife' he captioned the photo of himself and Blake on the red carpet – cropping her out of the picture in the mean time.

Gardai in Kilbeggan wish to appeal for witnesses to a hit and run collision.

The incident occurred on the M6 West bound between Junction 5, Kilbeggan and Junction 6, Moate on Wednesday at 9pm.

The driver of a silver Toyota Yaris was struck from the rear by another vehicle causing it to spin across the road.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris did not require Hospital treatment.

The offending vehicle, no description, failed to remain at the scene.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses who may have travelled this stretch of road between 8pm and 10pm on November 29.
