Mikayla Holmgren made history on Sunday night when she became the first ever woman with Down syndrome to compete in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant.

The 22-year-old, from Stillwater, Minnesota, received a standing ovation when she took to the stage at the Ames Center in Burnsville, where she took home the wards for the Spirit of Miss USA and the Director's Award.

Denise Wallace Heitkamp, executive state director, told Mikayla as she presented the award: “You make people smile every time you talk, cheer, smile, and dance. You exude the spirit of Miss USA by always being true to yourself and putting others first.”

“You have selflessness, humility, and the ability to overcome obstacles with a smile on your face and excitement in your heart.”

Mikayla has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. Having entered into the world of performing arts and the tender age of six, she quickly developed a passion for dancing.

In 2015, she was crowned Minnesota Miss Amazing after winning the pageant for women with disabilities.

Speaking to BuzzFeed News, Mikayla's mother, Sandi Holmgren, described the moment her daughter received a letter about Miss Minnesota.

“I wrote that she had Down syndrome and thought they would pass her by but they decided they wanted her to be a part of it,” she said.

“I didn't realize it was part of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageant and it took me a few weeks to realize the enormity of it and what a big deal it was for her to be in.”

Her inclusion in the competition marks a huge step forward for the pageant industry, as well as other young women with Down syndrome.

An investigation by Buzzfeed News has revealed how a large number of female customers claim to have been sexually assaulted during visits to one of America's largest massage franchises, Massage Envy.

The report, which was published over the weekend, found that some 180 women had filed lawsuits, police reports or board complaints against the company, including allegations of forced digital and oral penetration.

Others say massage therapists has “groped their genitals, groped their breasts, or committed other explicit violations”.

According to Buzzfeed, many victims say their complaints were 'mishandled or ignored' by Massage Envy, with one women claiming she begged an employee to remove the accused from a session with another client.

“She said she could not do that, and she invited me in to talk about my services,” the woman said.

Most states in the US do not legally require massage providers to report client allegations of sexual misconduct.

In a statement a spokesperson for Massage Envy said the company was working on its policies around these types of issues.

“We believe that even one incident is too many, so we are constantly listening, learning, and evaluating how we can continue to strengthen our policies with respect to handling of these issues,” they said.

Food delivery service Deliveroo has put an end to minimum order spends in Irish cities.

Until now, customers were required to spend a certain amount before Deliveroo would make a delivery, however with the addition of 250 riders this year, the minimum spend is no longer necessary.

The recent recruitment added to its network of 861 riders in Ireland.

The company currently operates in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Belfast, where local customers can order dishes through their website and app.

The delivery service also revealed country's most popular dishes – and they're as millennial as they come.

Dublin café Eathos scooped the title of favourite breakfast for its eggs benedict while Ramen in Cork was named the most popular lunchtime choice for its black bean chicken ramen.

And last but not least, Mexican eatery Boojum claimed the top spot when it came to Deliveroo dinner with the chicken burrito bowl proving to be the most popular choice.

No surprises there, really!
