Tayto lovers, listen up!

The makers of Ireland's favourite snack have just announced the launch of a new online shop and home delivery service – offering plush toys, cosy jumpers and of course, all the crisps you could ever wish for.

Teaming up with An Post, Tayto has promised that the virtual store will be up and running all year round so you can stock up on your favourite flavour in time for birthdays and 'Crispmas'.

Customers can order a special treat for themselves or a loved one for delivery anywhere around the country, while those who wish to send a package overseas can do so from their local post office.

Carol McCaghy, Senior Brand Manager for Tayto, said: “We are delighted to offer online sales within Ireland. We saw high demand for our merchandise and crisps at our pop up shops; this coupled with the growth of online shopping made it inevitable for us to enter this arena.

“Mr. Tayto is very excited to offer this service and we hope to expand our offerings and shipping areas in the future.”

Gilles Ferrandez, Commercial Director Parcels, An Post said “What a great present to receive in the mail this Christmas! We’ll make sure these precious Tayto gifts reach loved ones near and far safely.

“It’s best to get ordering early and to leave plenty of time for posting Tayto onwards to family and friends, in good time for Christmas.”

We'll never be short of a crisp sandwich ever again.

Being the baby of the family has its ups and downs.

Sure, we loved being the centre of attention at family events and even got the odd sneaky fiver here and there, but let's face it – after years of hand-me-downs and fierce sibling rivalry, a few extra quid was the least we deserved.

And while our diplomatic mothers and fathers would never give a definitive answer when asked if we were their favourite child, deep down we knew where their loyalties lay – and now science is here to back us up.

According to new research published in the Journal of Adolescence, the youngest sibling is more likely to be the favourite in the family.

For the study, researchers asked 300 families, each with two teenagers, various question about parent-child relationships.

Mothers and fathers were asked how much warmth and conflict they had with their children, while teenagers were asked to give a brief description of their relationship with their parents.

Results showed that if both younger siblings and parents agree that they are the favourite, the parent-child bond is strengthened.

However, if this feeling was not mutual, the relationship would suffer.

What's more, the study showed that regardless of whether or not an older sibling thought they were the favourite, it has no effect on their relationship with their parents.

“It’s not that first-borns don’t ever think about their siblings and themselves in reference to them…it’s just not as active of a part of their daily life,” says Alex Jensen, assistant professor at the BYU School of Family Life.

“My guess is it’s probably rarer that parents will say to an older sibling, “Why can’t you be more like your younger sibling?” It’s more likely to happen the other way around.”

So basically, younger siblings are often deemed the favourite because we're stubborn little feckers who want to prove that we're better than our older brothers and sisters.

Makes sense really.

There's no doubt that Christmas starts earlier and earlier each year, and while that suits festive enthusiasts down to the ground, it can make it difficult for people who mourn their late loved ones all the more deeply at Christmas.

Tapping into this over the weekend, Twitter user, Rachael Prior, posted a message which ultimately initiated a heartfelt thread on the subject of love and loss.

"Nowhere and no time do I miss my dad more acutely than in the men’s department of M&S at Christmas," she wrote in a post which has been liked almost 12,000 times since Saturday.

Rachael's candour set in motion a discussion which gave the grieving a chance to remember their own loved ones by telling fellow followers how and when they remember their friends and family members.

It makes for emotional reading, but there's a lot to be said for the warmth born of the impromptu discussion.

Juli Briskman may have lost the support of her employers after making a lewd gesture as she cycled past President Trump's motorcade in recent weeks, but the same certainly can't be said of the general public.

In the wake of Juli's dismissal from government contracting firm, Akima LLC,  a member of the public named Rob Mello established a GoFundMe page entitled 'Thank You Juli Briskman' which has raised almost $60,000 in just six days.

"Juli Briskman is an inspiration to us all," Rob wrote as part of his introduction to the fundraising page.

"This week we learned that she was fired from her employer for exercising her first amendment rights. You can show your support by donating here."

"I have connected with Juli and she has been officially setup as the beneficiary on this GoFundMe campaign. All proceeds are being donated directly to Juli."

"As the campaign beneficiary, she will be able to post updates and comments, so stay tuned!"

Juli's dismissal came after she chose to share the motorcade image on her social media pages in the days that followed her encounter with the President of the United States.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Julie explained the circumstances surrounding her dismissal, saying: "Basically, you cannot have 'lewd' or 'obscene' things in your social media. So they were calling flipping him off 'obscene.'"

Speaking to The Washinton Post, Juli insists that she does not regret her decision despite it costing her her job.

"I flipped off the motorcade a number of times," she admitted before adding: "I'd do it again."

MCD Productions have confirmed that US band, Brand New, have cancelled their upcoming gig in Dublin's Olympia Theatre this Thursday following allegations of sexual misconduct against lead singer, Jesse Lacey.

According to a recent report in Rolling Stone, in 2002, Jesse, who was 24 at the time, solicited nude images from teenage fans.

One victim asserted: "[Lacey] solicited nudes from me starting when I was 15 and he was 24. Manipulated the hell out of me, demanded specific poses/settings/clothing, demeaned me, and made it clear that my sexuality was the only thing I had to offer."

"I still breakdown and have panic attacks when people play Brand New in a bar," she added.

Jesse's response to the allegations was posted on Facebook over the weekend, and attempted to provide fans and followers with an explanation for his behaviour.

"The actions of my past have caused pain and harm to a number of people, and I want to say that I am absolutely sorry. I do not stand in defense of myself nor do I forgive myself. I was selfish, narcissistic, and insensitive in my past, and there are a number of people who have had to shoulder the burden of my failures," he wrote in the lengthy post.

"Early on in my life, I developed a dependent and addictive relationship with sex. I was scared of it, ashamed, and unwilling or unable to admit it, and so it grew into a consistent and terrible problem," he continued.

"Years ago, after admitting my habits and cheating to my then soon to be wife, I began to approach my problem in a serious way. I entered professional treatment, both in group therapy and individual counseling, and revealed the realities of what a terrible place I had gotten to in my life, and what a terrible impact my actions had on people."

While Jesse insists he has sought to seek treatment, he acknowledged that he must be held responsible for his past actions.

"The fact remains that none of us get to put a wall up between who we are and who we were. I need to earn forgiveness. Concepts like repentance, compassion, and love, are made real through actions, and it’s through my actions that I need to prove change."

"I hope I can show humility, and that the pain I have caused people can heal. I am not above reproach, and no one should be."

While Jesse's post has been liked 18,000 times since its upload, a number of social media users were quick to pour scorn on the supposed apology.

"This reeks of "poor me, I hurt people because I didn't know how to deal with my emotions." Who gives a f*ck? Plenty of people develop unhealthy relationships with sex in regards to their own emotional coping mechanisms and don't abuse young teenage girls," wrote one.

"Literally 0 mention of the fact the girl was 15 and you were 24? That's not just "compulsive cheating" is it? The problem has not been addressed at all," wrote another.

"I am working to shed all my narcissism…" writes a 7 paragraph post about himself, his family, his wife, his addiction with no mention of the victim or the fact she was underage. Right," added another.

In what can only be described as a real-life nightmare, British artist Stormzy found himself trapped inside a toilet cubicle after he accidentally wandered into the wrong bathroom at last night's MTV EMAs.

Having only realised his mistake when a group of women began chatting on the other side of the door, the 24-year-old was then faced with the ultimate dilemma.

Exit the cubicle and risk looking “mad creepy,” or remain inside until the coast was clear, while potentially missing his EMA performance.

In a desperate search for answers, Stormzy shared his tricky (yet absolutely hilarious) situation with his Snapchat followers.

“Came to buss a sh*t but accidentally went in the girls toilets so I can hear bare girls outside but if I pop out now imma look mad creepy,” he wrote.

Of course, fans were full of suggestions on how to best navigate the awkward situation, with MTV UK even tweeting the star to ask if he needed them to “send help?”

Stormzy was eventually able to pull off his expert escape with the help of a friend who reportedly warned him to hang back for a minute while Ann Marie finished brushing her teeth.

Luckily, the grime star made it to the stage on time to preform in front of the star studded audience at London's SSE Arena where he also scooped the award for the Best UK and Ireland Act.

We're glad to see it all worked out!

Katie Ascough, the former president of the UCD Student Union, elaborated on her pro-life stance while speaking with Marian Finucane on RTÉ Radio 1 this weekend.

Katie, who was impeached after making the decision to remove information pertaining to abortion from the university's Fresher handbook, told the host that her pro-life stance also applies to cases of rape.

The 20-year-old, whose pro-life opinion intensified after her mother suffered a miscarriage in recent years, explained that while she considers rape 'an abhorrent crime', she feels a termination is an unwise response.

"Rape is one of the most abhorrent crimes towards women and I completely condemn it. In fact I think we need to look at having more serious sentences for rapists in Ireland," she said.

“But at the same time, I do not think that abortion is the answer to this," Katie added.

Arguing that women who terminate a pregnancy following rape essentially punish the foetus as opposed to the father, Katie suggested that increased support would reduce the number of women who opt to abort in these cases.

"The child should not have to bear the brunt of their father’s crime. The child should not be essentially sentenced to death for what their father has done."

"I think we need to support them in as many ways as we can but at the same time, when it comes to bodily autonomy, there are two people involved in a pregnancy," Katie said.

"A child’s heart starts beating at 21 days. And I don’t think we can ignore that."

Katie was voted out of office by 69 per cent of voters last month.

An Australian Senator has released a rival same-sex marriage bill that could see a number of anti-discrimination laws overturned.

While the proposed bill, sponsored by Liberal senator James Paterson, would legalise same-sex marriage, a number of attached exemptions would give wedding service providers, such as bakers and florists, the right to refuse gay couples.

It comes just days before the results of a nationwide postal survey are released to the public.

Should the survey return a 'yes' vote, the Australian government are expected to debate a number of proposed exemptions to the law.

The Paterson bill,  would also include a clause which would allow government employees the right to refuse to register a same-sex marriage, while parents will be able to remove their child from a class if the content taught contradicts their beliefs.

Paterson, who is a supporter of same-sex marriage, said he thinks “religious freedom and speech are important rights.”

“I suspect 30-40% of Australian will vote no. I don't think their votes should mean we shouldn't have same-sex marriage, but I do think that their freedoms should be protected and I think my bill is a bill that best does that,” he said.

The proposed bill has been heavily criticised by supporters of gay marriage with Alex Greenwich, co-chair of Australian Marriage Equality, claiming it has the potential to “divide Australians.”

“Australians have been voting not to entrench discrimination in legislation. That is what senator Paterson's bill seeks to do,” he said.

Adding: “Are we going back to a time in Australia where there were signs outside a shop saying who they would serve and who they wouldn't?”

The results of the national survey on same-sex marriage are expected on Wednesday, November 15.

Bob Geldof is to hand back his Freedom of the City of Dublin this morning, in protest of the Myamnar leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, who also holds the same honour.

The musician and social activist has said he does not wish to be associated with the Burmese politician who has been criticised for her silence over her country's treatment of its Rohingya minority, with the UN describing it as a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing.”

Speaking about his decision to forfeit the honour, Geldof said: “Her association with our city shames us all and we should have no truck with it, even by default. We honoured her, now she appals and shames us.”

Suu Kyi was awarded the Freedom on the City in 1999, six years before the Boomtown Rats frontman.

“It is with deep sadness and great regret that I feel obliged to return to Dublin City Council the great honour bestowed upon me of the Freedom of the City of Dublin,” he continued.

“I am a very proud Dubliner but cannot in all conscience continue to be one of the honoured few to have received this great tribute whilst Aung San Suu Kyi remains amongst that number.”

Adding: “I would be a hypocrite now were I to share honours with one who has become at best an accomplice to murder, complicit in ethnic cleansing and a handmaiden to genocide.”

Over half a million Rogingya Muslims have fled from Rakhine state in western Myanmar into neighbouring Bangladesh since August.

The Myanmar leader is to be stripped of the Freedom on the City of Oxford in the coming weeks and Geldof has confirmed that he would be happy have it restored should the Freedom of Dublin also be stripped from Suu Kyi.

The body of a young Irish woman reported missing last week has been found in a public park in France.

21-year-old Eimear Noonan was last seen on Wednesday afternoon in the town of Annonay, 100km north of Marseille, where she worked as an English language teacher.

A statement on brother Cathal's Facebook page last night confirmed that Eimear's body had been found on Friday morning.

She was described as a “warm, bubbly person who had already made a wide circle of friends there through her love of music and singing.”

Her death is not being treated as suspicious with a government official saying it is believed she fell into water and drowned following a fall while out running.

A postmortem is due to be carried out today or tomorrow.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance and Eimear's family have appealed for privacy during this difficult time.
