A man has been slammed by Facebook users after he revealed that he wanted to ask his girlfriend to lose weight.

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, made the admission on the popular Humans of New York Facebook page – a photography project featuring a number of portraits and interviews collected in the streets of NYC.

In the post, he explained how his girlfriend's weight had bothered him since the beginning of their one-and-a-half year relationship, though he had hoped he would be able to “get past it.”

He went on to explain how he loves everything else about her, and doesn't want to end the relationship over that “one little reason.”

“It’s been 1.5 years. And I feel horrible, but I just can’t get past it. And I feel like a bad person for being bothered by it. I can’t bring myself to tell her,” he said.

“We’re going to couple’s therapy next week, but I still don’t think I’ll be able to say it. Is there any right way to ask someone to lose weight for you?”

Comments immediately began to flood in, with many users expressing their outrage at the man's comments.

"If you're concerned about her health, approach it from that angle. If you're concerned about her appearance, you should probably just stay single," one user wrote.

Another said: "No. You are the one with the problem, not her. Do her a favour and end it."

Speaking to The New York Post, couples counsellor, Rachel Sussman, gave her thought gave the issue:

“When you see your partner change significantly, it may change the way you feel about them,” she said.

“He might find [that he’s] attracted to someone else, that he has intimacy issues, that he loses attraction to his partners after a certain period of time — or he might be super immature.”

Other users were quick to jump to his defence, with one even describing his dilemma as a "natural issue."

"He’s asking for your advice, not your validation to hurt his girlfriend, which is obviously the last thing he wants to do. So stop attacking him for dealing with the way he feels in a really reasonable and self-reflective way."

Either way, I think we can all agree that Facebook probably isn't the best platform to seek advice for such a sensitive issue and an open and honest conversation bewtwen the pair is what's really needed.

As the last few fireworks light up the sky and the Christmas sections in shops getting bigger by the day, it's safe to say that winter 2017 is officially here.

And with that, there is a definite chill in the air as temperatures look set to plummet over the weekend.

Tonight will see temperatures drop to lows of one to five degrees, with gusty northwest winds set for the Atlantic coasts.

Tomorrow will be a cool but bright day with sunny spells as well as the odd shower over the northern half of the country. Highs of seven to 11 degrees.

Sunday night will see temperatures drop back to between one and five degrees once again, with some grass frost expected for the eastern half of the country.

It's a similar story for the rest of the week, with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers.

Wrap up warm, ladies. It looks like we're in for a cold few months.

Netflix has cut ties with Kevin Spacey, the star of its show House of Cards, following allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour.

Earlier this week, the streaming service announced that it had suspended production of the political drama series' sixth and final season, and it had now emerged that Spacey's character, Frank Underwood, has been axed from the series completely.

“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” the company said in a statement late on Friday.

Earlier this week, Broadway actor, Anthony Rapp, claims Spacey tried to seduce him when he was just 14-years-old.

Spacey has since issued a statement saying he does not recall the incident and offered an apology before announcing that he is living his life “as a gay man.”

While it is unclear at this stage how producers will deal with his absence, it is understood that his departure may not mean the end of the show.

“While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behaviour on the set of House of Cards, he has been suspended, effective immediately,” Media Rights Capital, the company that produces the show, said in a statement.

“MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.”

According to Variety, one scenario being discussed by producers is the option of killing off Spacey's character, and instead, have the sixth series focus his wife Claire, played by Robin Wright.

Ten days ago, original member of Crystal Castles Alice Glass released a statement on her website alleging that she was the victim of rape, sexual harassment and assault at the hands of her fellow band member Ethan Kath.

Alice stated that the recent wave of discussion surrounding sexual assault led to her feeling that it was time to speak out.

Crystal Castles former manager James Sandon spoke to The Telegraph regarding the allegations, and stated that he could 'offer no further insight to these accusations,' and said that the personal relationship between Glass and Kath 'was never fully clear.'

A post shared by @_alice_glass on

Alice Glass has taken to Instagram to share screenshots between herself and her manager which seem to indicate that Sandon was aware that the relationship was volatile.

In one email, Sandon describes Kath's treatment of Glass as akin to domestic violence, and that Kath would 'end up in a cell' should the abuse continue or escalate.

'I will not be silenced by abuse and rape apologists. please repost My former manager, James Sandom, who managed ‪Crystal Castles‬ for some time recently released a misleading statement to the Telegraph UK saying that the nature of my personal relationship with Claudio was “never fully clear.”'

A post shared by @_alice_glass on

'I would like to set the record straight that James was very aware that I was in a personal relationship with Claudio for years, and in these corresponding emails he calls Claudio’s treatment of me DOMESTIC ABUSE.'

'James says “I’ve had enough of this shit” because this was not an isolated incident. It was something I experienced repeatedly. The abuse that I endured was not only physical and mental from Claudio, but also seen in the negligence of those who were firsthand witnesses and did not speak up.'

'I encourage everyone out there to help anyone that they feel is in an abusive relationship. All it takes is one person to help.'

A post shared by @_alice_glass on

Kath responded to the claims saying: 'I am outraged and hurt by the recent statements made by Alice about me and our prior relationship.'

'Her story is pure fiction and I am consulting my lawyers as to my legal options.'

'Fortunately, there are many witnesses who can and will confirm that I was never abusive to Alice.'

There has been major excitement surrounding the event, and finally, the menu has become available to the masses.

For the traditionalists among us, there are the classic toasted cheese and toasted ham and cheese – complete with a garnish of onion and tomato if you so wish.

For the more adventurous out there, it's a complete smorgasbord of delicious foodie options.

For the vegetarians, there is the Mac Attack, which features mac and cheese with bechamel sauce wedged between two pieces of sour dough, or the Vegenator, suitable for vegans, stuffed full of veggies and vegan cheese, and topped off with coconut mayo.

For carnivores, theres the adventurous PBJ, which involves peanut butter, bacon, and spicy strawberry jam.

All of the recipes can be made gluten free simply by requesting them on gluten free bread.

There will be free tea top-ups for guests, and best of all, doggos are also welcome at the festival.

Pure bliss.

Twitter users were frenzied yesterday evening when POTUS Donald Trump's social media presence completely disappeared.

Trump's Twitter was off the grid for an entire 11 minutes, according to Twitter Government.

While many online thought that the president had been hacked, it turns out that this social media sabbatical was down to human error.

'Earlier today @realdonaldtrump's account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee,' reads the statement from Twitter Government.

'The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored.'

'We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.'

The employee who made the error was reportedly on his or her's last day of work at Twitter.

'Through our investigation we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee's last day,' reads a statement from Twitter.

'We are conducting a full internal review.'

Yep, that was definitely human error all right…

It's time to dust off that CV.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar met with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg yesterday, and a confirmation was made that Facebook will be providing hundreds more jobs in it's Irish division.

Ireland hosts the company’s largest headquarters outside of California, and already employs 2,000 people.

The jobs will be created across many different areas.

'We employ over 2,000 people here now and we have quite a large footprint,'  Facebook's Gareth Lambe told Breaking News.

'We have our International Headquarters in Grand Canal, we've taken another building in East Wall, we are just completing our data centre in County Meath and expanding that, we also last year, made an aquisition of a virtual reality research company in Cork.'

'So it is by far the largest footprint Facebook has in any country outside the US.'

Varadkar is currently in the US to discuss opportunities between Ireland and the States, to grow trade and improve tourism ventures.
