Following the release of his debut book, US actor Tom Hanks, has revealed that it was the beloved Irish author, Maeve Binchy, who inspired him to start writing.

The 61-year-old has just published a collection of 17 short stories called Uncommon Type – each  in some way involving a different typewriter.

But it seems it was the Dubliner's novel, Light A Penny Candle, that sparked his passion for fiction.

According to The Irish Sun, the actor said: “I fell in love with it. We all went nuts for her and I read Tara Road, Circle of Friends — I ended up going on a massive Maeve Binchy thing.”

In fact, Tom was such a big fan that he even took the time to send Maeve a letter detailing how much her loved her work.

“I actually wrote her a fan letter and I got a letter back,” he said.

The legendary novelist passed away in 2012 at the age of 73, though her influence on the world of fiction writing can still be felt today.

Uncommon Type is available to purchase from Amazon and book shops across the country.

We're all been there – you're out for a meal in swanky restaurant, decide what mouth-watering dish you're going to order, and eagerly wait its arrival so you can finally dig in.

But wait, not so fast.

No dining experience would be complete without the perfect Instagram post, right?

It's pretty much common practice in every restaurant across the world, and while some food bloggers have managed to make careers from portfolios of gorgeous food snaps, not everyone is keen on the trend.

In a rather controversial move, The Waterside, a Michelin-starred restaurant in the UK, has banned its customers from photographing their food.

According to The Daily Mail, renowned French chef, Michel Roux, has had enough of the millennial practice and has even gone as far as to place a sign on the door saying: “No photos, please.”

He said: “I mean, what are they doing? Maybe once during the meal you want to take a little photo of something because it’s unusual. But what about the flavours? A picture on a phone cannot possibly capture the flavours.”

The popular restaurant, named fourth best in the UK, was founded by brothers Michel and Albert Roux in 1972 and is now run by Michel’s son Alain – though Michel remains an active member of staff.

Alas, it seems like Michel's efforts could be in vain, as a quick snoop through Instagram shows a number of diners choosing to blatantly ignore the ban.

Gigi Hadid has earned the respect of thousands of Twitter users after she expertly took down a far-right blogger for posting an islamophobic tweet.

On Tuesday, Laura Loomer posted a photo showing two Muslim women walking close to the scene where eight people were killed in a ISIS-inspred terror attack in New York City earlier this week.

In the caption, Laura accused the women of “rubbing [the attack] in everyone's faces” by “aimlessly walking around in hijabs.”

People were quick to condemn her comments, with many branding the ignorant post as “ridiculous” and “digusting.”

One notable figure to speak put against Laura's controversial tweet was US supermodel, Gigi Hadid.

Clearly furious with the statment, the 22-year-old wrote: “Laura, I hate to give you the attention, but I need to tell you- You're a f**king moron.”

Laura then hit back at the star, saying: “Every verified liberal in Hollywood & MSM is tweeting at me today. I guess I really pissed them off!. It's not like I killed 8 ppl…”

To which Gigi replied: “alas.. your RT only proves your classless desperation to spread hate for attention..”

Needless to say, her expertly executed response went down well with fans.

Bravo, Gigi. Bravo.

So, if you've ever dreamt of bathing in a tub full of Kentucky Fried Chicken, then oh boy, have we got news for you.

In what is possibly one of the more bizarre beauty/food combos to emerge in recent times, KFC Japan have created the ‘Chicken Smell Bathing Powder,’ that'll leave your skin smelling like Colonel Sanders himself.

Shaped like a drumstick for that authentic feel, the bath bomb is the result of a collaboration between the fast-food chain and Japanese retailer Village Vanguard – a company known for its unique bathing products.

Rather unsurprisingly, the product has received a bit of mixed reaction so far, with some Twitter users asking why the product was ever created in the first place:

Love it, or loath it – it's pretty unlikely you'll ever get your hands on one anyway.

With just 100 of these bad boys in existence, they are not available to buy.

Instead, you'll need to retweet the tweet below in order to be in with the chance to win.

And if all else fails – just dump a few family sized buckets into the bath for the same effect.

Numerous reviews containing details about dangers posed to holiday-makers at some Mexican resorts have been deleted by TripAdvisor, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The popular travel and booking website has been accused of removing posts in which travellers shared their experience of assault, robbery and rape, after multiple comments mysteriously disappeared from a forum earlier this year.

When planning a trip to the Mexican resort of Riviera Maya, a woman from Indianapolis used the online forum to ask other users if the destination was a safe place for her and her husband to travel to.

Within minutes, comments began to roll in, and within 10 days, the post had received 55 replies in total.

24 users assured that couple that there was no need for concern and even detailed some positive experiences from recent trips.

“Just got back on Saturday and never felt safer,” wrote one user.

Another said: “I live close to St. Louis and feel much safer in Riviera Maya then I do going to a Cardinals baseball game”

Four of the comments failed to answer the question at all, while the other 27 were hidden from the public.

Instead, users were greeted with messages from the company informing them the that comments had been deleted because they were “determined to be inappropriate by the TripAdvisor community” or not “family friendly.”

The website has yet to comment on the allegations.

An Egyptian lawyer has come under fire after he suggested that women who wear revealing clothing, such as ripped jeans, deserve to be raped.

Nabih al-Wahsh, a prominent conservative, said it is a “patriotic duty” to sexually harass a girl who shows parts of her body in public.

According to Al Arabiya, he said: “Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing?”

“I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to sexually harass her and a national duty to rape her.”

Adding: “Girls must respect themselves so others respect them.”

The shocking comments were made during a live television debate in which panel members were discussing a draft law fighting prostitution and debauchery.

Understandably, Mr al-Wahsh's statement has sparked outrage across the globe and Egypt’s National Council for Women have announced plans to file a complaint against the TV channel.

“All the members of the council denounce and decry this statement that explicitly promotes rape and sexual harassment,” it said in a statement.

According to reports, Al-Wahsh previously described Egypt’s National Centre for Women as a "suspicious den" responsible for the "spread of divorces" and the "destruction of Egypt."

The comments come after an international poll named Cairo as the most dangerous megacity for women to live in.

Every year, the showstopping piece of the show has to be the Fantasy Bra.

Iconic Angels like Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepole and Gisele Bündchen have all been tasked with wearing diamond and jewel-encrusted Fantasy lingerie on the runway, ranging in value from $1-15 million dollars.

This year's Fantasy Bra has finally been revealed, and it's prettier than ever.

Decorated with vine-like jewelled embellishments and a drop-down necklace-style element, 2018's Fantasy Bra is one of the most striking yet.

The stunning Lais Ribeiro has been awarded the honour of donning the $2 million bra this year.

Lais, originally from Brazil, first walked for the brand back in 2010, and became a fully fledged Angel in 2015.

This will be her first time wearing the coveted Fantasy Bra.

The model was stunned when she discovered that she would be wearing the Bra this year, after VS bosses surprised her with the announcement.

Tricking her into thinking she was being hired for a regular Victorias Secret photo shoot for their new bralettes, the company waited until the last moment to spring the surprise.

Now we're more excited than ever for this year's show.

There are a few things that are heavily associated with millennial: selfies, college debt, brunch and avocados.

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen decided to pay homage to one of these millennial markers with her very distinctive (and adorable) Halloween costume.

Opting for a couples costume, Gisele and hubby Tom Brady went as our fave brunch combo avocado on toast.

Paying homage to the now cult combination, the couple scored major points for originality and relevance.

'Happy Halloween!!! I can't resist an avocado,' reads the caption accompanying the snap.

And only Gisele could literally wear a slice of toast and look fab.

However, we think their two kiddos would have looked super cute as a pair of poached eggs to compliment the look.

Then again, Benjamin and Vivian looked adorable in the snaps shared by their Mum.
