A new study has found that women who drink a moderate amount of red wine a week are more fertile than those who don't.

Now, depending on your life stage/ desire to start a family, this could be a good or a bad thing, so take from this what you will.

For the study, scientists at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, surveyed 135 women between the ages of 18 and 44.

Each participant was asked to keep an alcohol diary, noting the type of beverage and the amount of units they consumed each month.

Researchers also conducted regular ultrasound scans on each of the women in order to determine how many remaining viable eggs they had.

Results showed that those who consumed red wine on a regular basis had a better ovarian reserve, even when other factors such as age and income were taken into account.

Scientists believe this could be due to an antioxidant called resveratrol, which is a key component in red grapes, cocoa and blueberries.

However, these result should be taken with a pinch of salt as researchers say the fertility benefits are only enjoyed by women who drink moderate amounts of vino (approx. five glassed per month).

Speaking to The Times, Adam Balen, chairman of the British Fertility Society, “This is an interesting study, albeit with a small sample size which means that it doesn’t reach statistical significance.”

“However, the exposure of the developing foetus to alcohol may cause irreversible developmental damage, so alcohol consumption should be less than six units [roughly two large glasses of wine] per week for women wishing to conceive.”

Cheers, ladies.

Barely a day goes by when we don’t cringe or shudder over the words of the President of the United States of America, and Halloween is certainly no exception.

President Trump decided to ‘treat’ children of the White House press reporters yesterday, by opening up the Oval Office for a spot of trick-or-treating.

Trump, who is a grandfather of eight, welcomed little ones dressed in an array of costumes, from Princess Leia and Darth Vader, to witches and princesses.

Cameras rolled and flashed as Trump handed out chocolate to the eager trick-or-treaters, jokingly exclaiming: 'I cannot believe the media produced such beautiful children! How the media did this, I don’t know!'

Eyes rolled, however, as he handed out candy to a little girl, saying, 'You have no weight problems. That’s the good news, right?'

Once footage and reports of the exchange rolled out across the media, people took to Twitter to express concern that the President would raise such a sensitive topic around young children.

'I shudder to think what Trump might have said if he thought the kid did have a weight problem,' one person tweeted.

Trump views Halloween as a special time when you creep-out trick-or-treaters by making weird comments about their parents, weight and looks,' another added.

'Don’t know why Trump felt it appropriate to comment on these kids’ looks and weight,' another chimed in.

The trick-or-treat party is in stark contrast to last year’s festivities at the White House, where Barack and Michelle Obama greeted children on the lawn.

Dressed in casual jeans, the former President and First Lady giggled as they met tiny trick-or-treaters decked out in amazing costumes – who could forget the little Pope?!

What a difference a year makes, eh?!

Kim Kardashian may be known for her killer heels, random sheer panelling and corsets-go-with-everything attitude, but her costume fot Halloween this year is honestly fab.

The mum-of-two has always pulled out all the stops for the spooky season(who could forget the time she took the complete piss out of herself and dressed up as pregnant Kim wearing that floral sofa dress) but this year her costume is pure perfection.

We love to don the ensemble of our idols at Halloween, and that's exactly what Kim did this year.

The reality TV star dressed up as Cher, wearing an iconic yellow two-piece worn in 1973 by the singer-turned-actress.

The yellow embellished set was worn to the Oscars by Cher, and was photographed there with Sonny Bono.

That's where bestie Jonathan Cheban comes in.

Rather than roping Kanye into her duo outfit, Celebrity Big Brother contestant and restaurateur Johnathan donned Sonny's half of the ensemble.

Kim looked striking with her perfectly executed Cher makeup, complete with heavy bottom eyelashes.

And can we talk about that ab contouring?

This isn't the first time Kim has channelled Cher vibes.

The businesswoman was previously featured on the cover of Harpers Bazaar in a Cher-inspired photoshoot.

In this case, immitation truly is the highest form of flattery.

It's a pretty outdated concept, but often times, men are still expected to make the first move when it comes to asking someone out.

Many women would easily pluck up the courage to ask the guy they fancy out on a date, but for others, the experience wouldn't be so easy.

Changing up societal gender norms, award winning relationships blogger Oloni set a challenge to her followers to ask the guys they liked out on a date.

The challenge was accepted by many brave tweeters, who bared their souls in the hopes of getting a date.

Oloni also asked that her followers screen shot the responses and post them in the thread, to be shared with her sex-and-relationships-positive community.

For many, the challenge was a positive experience, as their objects of affection reciprocated with yeses.

The feeling was liberating for those who had success, and built their confidence.

However, the challenge was heart breaking for others.

One young woman tweeted the below, with a broken heart emoji.

She had asked a guy out on a date (more power to you, girl) only to be told that he liked her friend.

However, the community in the thread showered her with positive messages to help her through the rejection .

Others also unfortunately discovered that their potential baes were getting married or already had girlfriends, or simply weren't interested.

One even got served with the block button.

We think it's better to know though, right?

So, if you ever wanted to ask someone out, now might be the time to do it.

At least if there's any rejection involved, you can say it was just for Twitter…

Noah Cyrus has leant her support to PETA's latest campaign against SeaWorld.

The songstress appears in a new campaign image, which shows her trapped in a display tank, much like the animals held in captivity.

SeaWorld has been the target of multiple animal rights activists and organisations for many years.

A post shared by peta2 (@peta2) on

According to PETA, SeaWorld should release their orca population into sanctuaries.

'In the wild, orcas have sophisticated social relationships, working cooperatively to find food and travelling up to 140 miles in the ocean every day,' reads a statement on PETA's website.

'But at SeaWorld, they’re often trapped in incompatible groups.'

'The tiny tanks they’re confined to leave them with nothing to do but float listlessly or swim in endless circles while enduring stress, frustration, and depression as well as the blazing-hot sun.'

A post shared by peta2 (@peta2) on

'They gnaw on the metal tank bars, often breaking their teeth, and are given drugs to manage stress-induced aggressive and psychotic behaviour.'

'I love animals so much,' Noah said, in a video posted to PETA's YouTube page.

'To think that any animal would be trapped makes me so sad. It's like living in  your own bedroom your entire life and never being able to go outside,'

Noah has previously appeared in an anti-dissection campaign for PETA, which lashed out against the experimentation of animals in classrooms.

Not everyone is capable (or willing) of creating the seriously intricate and product-heaving Halloween makeup looks we see splashed all over Instagram at this time of the year.

From full faces of clown paint to special effect makeup, these labour intensive looks are amazing on completion, but take a lot of effort.

For those looking for a Halloween look with less commitment, blood eyeliner is the way to go.

The simple liner look is ideal if you want to look glamorous rather than scary this year.

Simply team the liner with a little black dress and some edgy fishnet tights for a Halloween look without the horror.

Best of all, the look can be achieved with items already in your makeup bag.

A post shared by Viktor Peters (@viktorpeters) on

First, take your trusty eyeliner and draw the outline of the flick and the blood drips.

Then, fill in the shape with fake blood or a dark red lipstick.

If you only have a matte lipstick, you can draw on the highlights with white face paint.

Just make sure you add an excellent eye primer and a non-smudge setting spray.

Halloween can be a hectic time for Ireland's emergency services, as reports of bonfires, fireworks and general mischief increase for the spooky season.

Every Halloween, Dublin Fire Brigade attend hundreds of fires.

Last night, Dublin Fire Brigade attended a bonfire in the East Wall area, and came under attack while doing so.

The DFB shared images on Twitter of their smashed fire engine window after the incident.

Luckily, no crew members were injured in the incident.

While they indicated that the incident occurred in the East Wall, the DFB withheld the exact location.

However, Twitter users were quick to accuse the brigade of suggesting that the incident occurred on Sheriff Street.

Dublin Fire Brigade corrected the user, revealing that the incident did not occur on that street.

'I decided against naming the location as its not fair to define an area by the act of a few,' reads the response tweet.

The images of the smashed window angered many on social media, who questioned why on earth anyone would attack our emergency services on their way to a potentially life threatening incident.

'Unbelievable! Fire fighters risking their lives everyday to ensure the safety of others. What kind of idiot attacks a fire engine?' tweeted one.

The damaged fire truck was taken out of service to be repaired.

When it comes to Dublin Bus, most fares will not see an increase.

There is no change to fares for shorter journeys or for longer journeys.

However, fares for mid-range journeys are to increase by approximately 5pc.

This increase sees journeys which usually cost €2.05 will now cost €2.15 for those using Leap Cards.

For those using cash, a mid-range journey usually costing €2.70 will now cost €2.85.

According to Dublin Bus, 2/3rds of cash customers can beat the increase by moving to Leap Cards.

Use of Leap Card will be up to 28pc cheaper than cash, according to a statement from Dublin Bus.

When it comes to Luas commuters, Luas prices will rise by 5pc, bringing them in line with Dublin Bus prices.

There will also be the introduction of a new €1.00 city centre fare for off peak hours.

For those who use public transport enough to reach the €40.00 adult or €30.00 student weekly cap, you'll be happy to hear that no change will be made to this cap despite the fare hikes.

When it comes to Iarnród Éireann, fares are to increase by 1.4pc.

Outside of Dublin, some bus fares will be decreased.

Galway, Cork and Limerick and will see a decrease in Bus Eireann fares.
