Legislatures in the Canadian province of Ontario have put a ban on pro-life protests outside abortion clinics and pharmacies that sell the termination pill.

The new law, passed on Wednesday, will see the creation of 50-metre “safe zones” outside the state's eight abortion clinics, in an attempt to prevent pro-life campaigners from intimidating patients and staff.

Measures have also been put in place to protect staff from “harassment” at their homes outside of working hours.

Anyone who violates the 50-metre boundary will face up to $5,000 (€3,309) in fines and six months in jail for a first offence and fines of $1,000 (€662) to $10,000 (€6,618) and up to a year in jail for a second or subsequent offence.

Speaking on the importance of the bill, Attorney General, Yasir Naqvi, commended the political parties for working together to pass the legislation sooner than expected.

“We as legislators have passed a very important piece of legislation ensuring that women have safe access to health-care services like reproductive health and abortion services,” he said.

“We worked on this bill on a very short time frame to ensure that we protect women.”

Ontario is not the first Canadian province to introduce such legislation, with British Columbia, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador all having already enacted the safe zone laws.

With more than 1,000 UCD students having petitioned for her impeachment, UCD SU President, Katie Ascough, has released an open letter via the Fight4Katie Faceook page.

Katie was the subject of intense criticism in August when she made the decision to remove information pertaining to abortions in the university's Fresher handbook Winging It.

Ahead of today's referendum, which was set in motion by the petition and will ultimately decide Katie's fate as SU President, she chose to issue a letter to the student body.

"I have put my whole heart and soul into being your SU President for the last four months. UCD is an incredible place, and I am so grateful to be elected to represent the 30,000+ amazing students of UCD. You have my commitment, you have my all," she began.

"The Impeachment referendum was initiated because of my decision not to distribute the Winging It books. Doing so would have been illegal. The advice I received on the issue was clear. It said that the prudent action was to redesign the books or, if it was too late – and it was – to cancel them."

"Some have referred to the SU’s “proud history” of breaking the law, especially in the 80s and 90s, but the question is this: Is it fair to demand that I break the law, too?" she asked.

"I ran on a platform of things like cutting the cost of college and improving mental health supports. I did not agree to break the law and run the risk of a criminal record for the rest of my life."

In the lengthy message, Katie was keen to clarify the issues at the heart of the controversy.

"Regarding the Winging It books – I ask you to please place yourself in my shoes. I kept my election promise and delegated tasks to my team; I trusted my team. In trying to respect the pro-choice mandate of the Union, as I had promised, I allowed another officer to sign off on the content of the books."

"I realised the book contained abortion information. Never for one moment did it look illegal to me, it just looked like abortion information. No one on the team told me that I was signing off on something illegal, despite the fact that they admit they knew."

Looking to the future, Katie insists she prioritises the needs of the student body, writing "I am willing, ready, and determined – if UCD students Vote No – to return to my job on Friday morning and begin to mend what has been broken."

"Please Vote No to see your representation restored. Please Vote No for fair treatment of someone who chose to not break the law. And please Vote No to stand up for a President who is committed to you."

Those championing Katie have been vocal in their support of the post, but a number of students have dismissed Katie's protestations.

"Liar, Bigot, and Coward, removing comments and blocking those who go against you on this page," wrote one Facebook user. "Dont let the door hit you on the way out."

Last night Six One viewers bid a sad farewell to Bryan Dobson, who has co-anchored the programme for more than 20 years.

However, it's not just Bryan who will be leaving the Six One news desk, as his co-anchor Sharon Ní Bheolain will also be taking up new roles within RTÉ.

Sharon, who started her career with RTÉ back in 1994, is set to present the Nine O'Clock News on rotation with Eileen Dunne, but will also remain as a presenter of Leaders Questions.

And while Bryan will join the Morning Ireland team on-air from November 1, Sharon will be the new presenter of Crimecall on RTÉ One.

So, who will replace the Six One dream team?

Well, RTÉ News today announced that Keelin Shanley and Caitriona Perry will take up the reins on the RTÉ Six One News from January 2018.

Broadcaster Keelin Shanley who currently presents News at One on RTÉ Radio 1 and Crimecall on RTÉ One, will be joined by RTÉ's current Washington Correspondent Caitriona Perry, as co-presenters on the flagship programme.

Announcing the new appointments, Director of RTÉ News & Current Affairs Jon Williams said: "For over a decade, Bryan and Sharon have set the standard for TV News in Ireland and I couldn't be more grateful and more excited as each embarks on new challenges for RTÉ News."

"I’m thrilled that Keelin and Caitriona will bring their intellect, competitive drive, and focus on storytelling to RTÉ's Six One News."

"In a news environment where we are bombarded by opinions and half-truths all day long, there’s no bigger challenge than to make sense of it all on Six One – and no better new presenting team to do so."

Times are a-changing, ladies.

Given the sheer amount of press coverage – not to mention incredulity – surrounding Harvey Weinstein's alleged crimes in recent weeks, you'd be forgiven for thinking that he was the only Hollywood heavy-hitter to ever find himself the centre of such allegations.

Keen to remind the public that this isn't the case, movie producer, Judd Apatow, made reference to actor and director Woody Allen's past in a recent tweet which has sparked intense discussion online in recent days.

Allegations surrounding sexual abuse and misconduct have dogged Allen for almost three decades while the storyline of his latest movie has sparked concern among many – something Judd address directly on social media.

"It is sad that he is obsessed with all these young actresses and none of them run when offered the job," Judd wrote while sharing an article which focussed on the unsettling nature of Allen's latest movie.

Agreeing with 49-year-old producer, one Twitter user wrote: "Seriously, anyone who supports Allen, Roman Polanski, and others like them are the problem."

"I think the first thing to question is why is the industry still supporting him? He goes on like nothing happened," added another.

While agreeing with Judd, one of his followers did question why he believes the responsibility lies at the feet of women, asking: "Why do men continue to work with him?"

"Seriously, men & women know he’s a predator yet his name & fame perpetuate a dangerous reality for all."

Kate Winslet recently came in for criticism when she sidestepped a question relating to Allen's past

"As the actor in the film, you just have to step away and say, I don’t know anything, really, and whether any of it is true or false. Having thought it all through, you put it to one side and just work with the person," she reasoned.

Judd's tweet has been likes more than 2,000 time since its upload.

Keeping up with the Kardashians' lives is pretty simple thanks to their TV shows, and getting a makeup look like one of the sisters is a cinch thanks to KKW Beauty and Kylie Cosmetics.

One area which always leaves us envious is the Kardashian-Jenner's wardrobes.

While the sisters have created clothing lines for Dash and Kendall & Kylie previously, the clothes have never been super accessible to young women like us.

Embellished dress €62.00, Oriental print dress €32.00, Cut out turtleneck dress €62.00

Luckily, one of the hottest online fashion havens has collaborated with arguably the most sophisticated sister.

Our go-to place for finding that killer night out dress, PrettyLittleThing have teamed up with the one and only Kourt K to create a capsule collection that's perfect for party season.

PrettyLittleThing by Kourtney Kardashian is landing online today, and we got a sneak peek of all the eldest sis had to offer in the sartorial stakes.

Cut out dress €38, Sequin dress €48, Pink fur coat €85.00

Stuffed to bursting with maximalist embellishments, jewel-toned furs and saucy sequin slips, the collection is perfectly primed to fit into your party season wardrobe.

Each piece is individually designed by Kourtney herself, and clearly the reality TV queen did not hold back when it came to channelling her personal touch into the collab.

Biker jacket €85.00, Burgundy fur coat €85.00, Longline blazer €62.00

It's clear from the shapely silhouettes and racy cut-outs that Kourtney took inspiration from all of her sisters' statement styles.

Low cut bodycons that Kim would wear every day of the week, oriental prints that Kylie has donned over on Snapchat, flared trousers Kendall would fight you for and an embellished blazer Kris Jenner would proudly hang in her Birkin room.

All of the Kardashians are known for draping decadent furs over their shoulders in KUWTK, and the trophy pieces from the triumphant collab have to be the electric lime and zingy pink furs as seen on Kourtney in the campaign.

Yellow fur coat €85.00, Silver sequin slip dress €48.00, Oriental print crop top €10.00 and trousers €32.00

As well as coats to brighten up any winter morning, the collaboration hosts a carousel of tight, short dresses that will turn heads on any dancefloor.

From submerged in sequins to laced up at the sides, the party dresses will be on rotation for the entire Christmas season.

Sheer dress €48.00, Crop top €18.00, Red mini dress €48.00

The collection draws reference from some of Kourtney's favourite eras.

'My inspiration behind the collection was studio 54, 70s Cher vibes, we wanted to do bright colours like, add a little life to it with sequins and faux fur and it’s turned out really amazing.'

'It’s been amazing working with PrettyLittleThing because it’s fun accessible fast fashion,' she said.

Jumpsuits €48.00 each

Another stand out piece from the collection is the buttoned-up jumpsuit, which comes in the same statement shades as the trophy furs.

The collection is affordable for all budgets, starting from as little as €10.00.

The line is available online today. See you in the virtual queue, sequin bodycon in basket.

The 43-year-old has not cancelled a performance due to bad health since 1998 and ensured fans that it was not a decision he took lightly.
