While online shopping is often viewed as a quick and convenient way to purchase good and services, making sure someone is home at the time of the delivery can sometimes prove problematic.

Sure the driver could take it back to the depot, or you could arrange for the package to be dropped off at local collection point – but really, if we wanted to venture out into the real world, we would have just went to the shop in the first place.

Well, what if we told you that Amazon drivers could soon be able to unlock your front door, even when you're not at home?

Sure, it sounds slightly invasive, even a little creepy, but Amazon have assured customers that the system, which is linked to a home security camera, is completely safe.

So, how does it work?

According to The Guardian, the Amazon Key system works in combination with an app, home security camera and a smart lock.

Once the driver has arrived at the address, users of the app will get a notification informing them that their package is ready to be delivered.

The customer can then choose to monitor the driver on their smartphone via the cloud-connected camera.

The futuristic delivery method will launch in some parts of the US this November – but the gadgets needed to make the operation run smoothly don't come cheap.

The online retailer is selling an Amazon Key starter pack (including camera and smart lock) for $250 (approx. €211).

Speaking about the launch, Peter Larsen, Amazon’s head of delivery technology, said: “Amazon Key gives customers peace of mind knowing their orders have been safely delivered to their homes and are waiting for them when they walk through their doors.”

“Now, Prime members can select in-home delivery and conveniently see their packages being delivered right from their mobile phones.”

What's more, the technology will also be compatible with other services, such as cleaners and dog walkers, or anyone else who may need access to your home when you're not there.

We can't say we're sold on the idea just yet, but hey, the thoughts of having our online purchases ready and waiting when we get in the door does sound pretty intriguing.

It's been reported that, the brother of the Las Vegas shooter has been detained on suspicion of possession of child pornography.

According to NBC, Bruce Paddock, 58, was arrested at an assisted living centre in North Hollywood, where it's believed he was a resident.

It's understood that an investigation was underway before his brother, Stephen Paddock, opened fire at a Las Vegas country music festival, killing 58 people.

Authorities are still attempting to determine the motive behind the shooting, which proved to be the deadliest in U.S. History.

"Six chicken nuggets, large fries and a coke please."

These are the sweet words we utter when we stand in-front of the McDonalds counter, bursting with happiness.

However, did you know that when you order your meal, you are in-fact benefiting the Queen of England? Well, kind of.

It has been revealed that the Royal Family actually owns a McDonalds franchise just outside London.

Is that not the most random thing you have ever heard?

Just when you think it's all crown jewels and castles, BAM – Big Mac!

It has been revealed that The Crown acquired Banbury Gate Shopping Centre in Oxford when it was built.

The shopping centre has a McDonalds, as well as a Primark and an Ed’s Easy Diner, we're surprised.

As you may, or may not know, The Crown Estate is technically owned by the Sovereign in the right of the crown (whatever that means!) and the property is estimated to be worth a staggering £2.4 billion with profits going to Lizzie's Treasury.

Imagine owning a Primark AND a McDonalds? What a time to be alive!

Since the creation of the Hollywood machine, we've known that women have had to fight for both the recognition and roles they deserve.

Paid less than their male counterparts. subject to more intense scrutiny and battling an industry which rarely celebrate the older female, women in Hollywood have to grow a thick skin in order to survive the revolving door system.

And if women do seek to have their voices heard? They're swiftly dubbed 'divas' by industry insiders  – something Blake LIvely addressed in a recent interview.

Speaking to People, the 30-year-old actress admits that fear for her burgeoning career stopped her from speaking up at certain times.

"As a woman, you’re afraid of a label you may acquire by demanding fair treatment for yourself that you know that you’ve earned," she explained.

"I think that sometimes you’re not encouraged to stand up for yourself," Blake added.

“It doesn’t even mean in really dramatic ways,” she added. “That just means that if you’re working too many hours, or you aren’t being paid what someone else at your work level is being paid, or if you’re being treated differently than someone else on the crew, or whoever."

Acutely aware that challenging the norm left her vulnerable to criticism, Blake remained stoic when observing the ins and outs of an industry she joined at just 10-years-old.

"I didn’t feel like I could fight for myself in the same way, because I was afraid of coming across as a diva or difficult or demanding," Blake admitted.

Interestingly, Blake admitted she had no trouble challenging injustices which didn't directly effect her – an approach she wished she could have applied to herself.

"I’d encourage myself to love myself and fight for myself, as hard as I fought for other people," she says of her younger self.

Believe it or not, it's been 20 years since J.K Rowling let us in to her magical world of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and for that, we are forever grateful.

However, as any self-proclaimed Harry Potter super fan will know, there was a time when it looked like the series might not be published at all.

In fact, as an unknown author, J.K had her debut novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, rejected by not one, not two, but 12 publishers, before it was eventually picked up by the clever folk at Bloomsbury.

We know what you're thinking.

How on earth did this worldwide phenomenon slip through the cracks so many times?

How could they not see its unlimited potential?

And while you might never find the answers to these questions, you can now make up your own mind, because in celebration of Harry Potter's 20th anniversary, J.K Rowling’s original pitch has gone on display at the new Harry Potter: A History Of Magic exhibition at London’s British Library.

It reads:

"Harry Potter lives with his aunt, uncle and cousin because his parents died in a car-crash—or so he has been told. The Dursleys don't like Harry asking questions; in fact, they don't seem to like anything about him, especially the very odd things that keep happening around him (which Harry himself can't explain).

The Dursleys' greatest fear is that Harry will discover the truth about himself, so when letters start arriving for him near his eleventh birthday, he isn't allowed to read them. However, the Dursleys aren't dealing with an ordinary postman, and at midnight on Harry's birthday the gigantic Rubeus Hagrid breaks down the door to make sure Harry gets to read his post at last. Ignoring the horrified Dursleys, Hagrid informs Harry that he is a wizard, and the letter he gives Harry explains that he is expected at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in a month's time

To the Dursleys' fury, Hagrid also reveals the truth about Harry's past. Harry did not receive the scar on his forehead in a car-crash; it is really the mark of the great dark sorcerer Voldemort, who killed Harry's mother and father but mysteriously couldn't kill him, even though he was a baby at the time. Harry is famous among the witches and wizards who live in secret all over the country because Harry's miraculous survival marked Voldemort's downfall.

So Harry, who has never had friends or family worth the name, sets off for a new life in the wizarding world. He takes a trip to London with Hagrid to buy his Hogwarts equipment (robes, wand, cauldron, beginners' draft and potion kit) and shortly afterwards, sets off for Hogwarts from Kings Cross Station (platform nine and three quarters) to follow in his parents' footsteps.

Harry makes friends with Ronald Weasley (sixth in his family to go to Hogwarts and tired of having to use second-hand spellbooks) and Hermione Granger (cleverest girl in the year and the only person in the class to know all the uses of dragon's blood). Together, they have their first lessons in magic — astronomy up on the tallest tower at two in the morning, herbology out in the greenhouses where the…"

So, if you currently feel like the entire world is plotting against you, just remember that even one of the greatest writers of the 21st century faced her fair share of rejection.

He may have insisted he didn't want to be discriminatory, but Senator Terry Leyden still managed to do so when he recently suggested that certain sports were outside the physical capabilities of women.

Speaking to the Seanad, Senator Leyden revealed that he did not support the idea of female rugby teams due to the physical nature of the game.

“Funnily enough, I am not a great advocate of women's rugby,” he said. “I am not over enthusiastic about it from a health point of view.”

Suggesting that us women folk might be better served in a different field, he went on to say: "Rugby is a very physical game.  I think there are certain games more suited to women, and I do not mean to be discriminatory."

“I mean it from the point of view of the future health of women rugby players," he added.

Unsurprisingly, the remarks went down like a lead balloon, with RTÉ sports broadcaster, Evanne Ní Chuilinn, quick to add her voice to the discussion.

Taking to Twitter to dismiss Leyden's apparent concerns, Evanne quoted: "Rugby is very physical" before adding: "So is giving birth."

The tweet has been celebrated by hundreds of social media users this week, with one responding: "For the love of God! Does Senator Leyden want us to go back to the days of comely maidens dancing at the crossroads?"

"Sometimes I feel like the world is going backwards," wrote one Twitter user while another added: "Reminds me a bit of the old ‘women can’t run far because their uterus’ will fall out’ adage."

Senator Leyden has since retracted his remarks, issuing a statement, reading: "I regret the offence caused to Women’s rugby by my recent comments."

"I have been contacted by a number of people regarding the participation of women in rugby and realise that my point of view was ill informed."

Tonight, television viewers across Ireland will tune in to see Bryan Dobson deliver the Six One News headlines one last time.

After 21 years as co-anchor, the legendary broadcaster has set his sights on Ireland's radio waves where he will join co-presenters Rachael English, Dr Gavin Jennings and Audrey Carville as a main anchor of RTÉ Radio One's Morning Ireland from next week.

Not one to make a “big fuss”, Bryan has said he will celebrate his new career move by heading out for a meal with co-presenter Sharon Ni Bheoláin, followed by a “few drinks” with their colleagues.

According to reports, an RTÉ insider said: “Bryan was reluctant to make a big deal about leaving because, the way he sees it, he's only moving across the room.”

“He would be happy enough with a low-key affair.”

Bryan's replacement is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, but in the meantime it's understood a rotating schedule of news presenters will fill the role.

A number of presenters have already been tipped to succeed Dobson, including Ray Kennedy, David McCullough and Keelin Shanley.

Farewell Dobbo, you'll be missed.

If you went on holiday and didn't put a 'hot dogs or legs' snap from the pool edge on your Instagram, then did you even go?

One luxury hotel in the Maldives wants to rid your feed of amateur snaps while on your hols, and has introduced a pretty unique method of making sure your Insta is on fleek.

According to The Independent, the Conrad Maldives resort on the island of Rangali, one of the many sand bays of the Maldives, has created the concept of Instagram butlers.

These butlers act like professional Instagram husbands or wives, snapping Insta-worthy pics of you at the resort and documenting the surrounding paradise.

The butler will snap you aesthetically exploring the island in the hopes of getting you on the Explore page, if you will.

The butlers take guests on Instagram tours to the most scenic parts of the island, to host photo shoots and experience the immersive luxury island in full.

A post shared by Hilton Honors (@hiltonhonors) on

As well as taking snaps, the butlers give tips on taking your own Insta pics in their absence.

We seriously need an Insta butler of our own…

This Saturday, October 28, marks the fifth anniversary of Savita Halappanavar's death – an event which serves as a tragic reminder of the “watertight medical rationale” for legalising abortion in Ireland.

The Coalition to Repeal the Eight Amendment is organising a vigil at 4pm on Saturday outside the GPO on O'Connell Street, Dublin 1.

Announcing details of the vigil today, Ailbhe Smyth, Convenor of the Coalition, said: “The medical rationale for abortion is watertight. In cases like Savita’s, abortion saves lives.”

“As we’re marking the fifth anniversary of Savita’s very sad death, an Oireachtas Committee is considering what should be done about the Eighth Amendment.  The Committee has heard from leading experts on maternity healthcare in recent weeks.  Their opinion was unequivocal: if it weren’t for the Eighth Amendment, Savita Halappanavar would be alive today.”

“For once in Ireland, we need to take on board the lessons from our past.  We need to ensure that no more women die in the sort of tragic circumstances experienced by Savita Halappanavar.”

For those who do not live in Dublin, but would like to attend, there are over 20 additional vigils taking place across the country.

All vigils will be silent and those in attendance are invited to bring flowers and candles if they wish.

For more information, click here.

The Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment is an alliance of over 100 organisations including human rights, feminist and pro-choice organisations, trade unions, health organisations, NGOs, community organisations and many others.

Its members agree that the Eight Amendment must be repealed in order to the lives of women in Ireland.
