If you've ever acted as bridesmaid for a friend, you'll likely have bent over backwards to ensure her day ran as smoothly as humanely possible.

And if you've tied the knot, you'll have likely relied on your bridesmaids for everything from blister plasters to pep talks.

It's an unwritten rule that when it comes to weddings, the bride comes first, and the bridesmaids pick up the slack, right?

Well, not if a recent post on Reddit is anything go by.

Reaching out to 'married Redditors', a user asked them to cast their mind back and reflect on the 'most obnoxious request made by one of their guests', and one woman's response took the absolute biscuit.

Married Redditors, what was the most obnoxious request made by one of your wedding guests? from AskReddit

"One of the bridesmaids brought her fiancé to the wedding, and wanted our photographer to do an impromptu engagement photo shoot. Photographer laughed in her face," the woman told fellow followers.

Unsurprisingly, Reddit users fell on this response with shock, with one person replying: "It'll never cease to amaze me just how trashy and cheap people can be."

"As a photographer…that's awesome. It is a dick move to ask that, especially at someone's wedding, geez," added another.

"I hate that sh*t so much. If you want to come up and ask to book a photoshoot a different day that's fine here's a business card, but don't expect free work," added another.

Seriously, though…

A few years back, Amy Huberman sent the Irish public into an absolute tailspin when she revealed that the outfit she rocked during Oscar week was something we could all actually get our hands on.

It turned out that the sleek white jumpsuit, which caused a serious stir on the red carpet, was an SS16 offering from Lennon Courtney, and it was stocked exclusively at Dunnes Stores.

From Brendan Courtney and Sonya Lennon to Paul Costello, there's no doubt that the Irish retailer has a knack for choosing to collaborate with designers who pique the interest of the stars, and they've done it again with Joanne Hynes.

Joanne's newest collection, which launched in Dunnes Stores last month, was highly-anticipated following the success of last year's collection, and now one of the music industry's most iconic stars is proudly showcasing one of Joanne's creations.

Earlier today,  Lady Gaga took to Instagram to give fans an insight into her latest look with three separate uploads, all of which included a Joanne Hynes headband.

"Juan Vidal. Fashuns in the studio. #ladygaga #fashion #juanvidal and some very exciting accessories. Headband by @joannehynes," she captioned the post which has amassed almost 130,000 likes since its upload.

And it seems it's not just us who have a real grá for Joanne's stunning creation, with one follower writing: "Love that headband on you!"

We're with them on that one.

Let's face it – us Irish aren't exactly know for our Michelin star cuisine, but there are a number of dishes we've managed to perfect over the years.

Spice bags, Tayto sandwiches, Sunday roast, chicken fillet rolls; not only are these the staple foods of ever Irish hangover – they're national delicacies and we're damn proud of them.

One man who found this out the hard way was Twitter user, Lil Chicken Tender.

Late last week, the 22-year-old shared a photo of something that looked suspiciously like a chicken fillet roll along with the caption: “If you from Florida you already know wtf goinn on.” (sic)

Infuriating, we know. But let's give the guy a break – half the island have already been on to him to point out the mistake.

Here's how it all went down:

Basically, Irish people are good at two things – making rolls and confusing Americans.

We have all heard about cauliflower rice, kale and avocado toast at this stage; in fact, most of us have made these staples on our shopping lists.

More than ever, food trends are shaping the way we eat – sometimes for worse (you can't turn everything into a rainbow…), but mostly for the better.

Jacquie Marsh, from The Butler's Pantry, sat down with us to answer our questions about the food trends of  2017 and the impact of social media on our diets.

What are the main food trends you see emerging in 2017?

I think we are seeing a resurgence of interest in food prepared from scratch, using high quality ingredients.

People are really trying to move away from processed food made in factories that's full of additives and preservatives, because they know that kind of food is not good for their health. Once you have great ingredients, the number of dishes that you can make is infinite.

If there’s a name to be put on this ‘trend’, let’s call it ‘back to basics’. Because The Butler’s Pantry’s food is all made in a kitchen, the way you would at home (if you had the time!), it fits in very well with this ‘new’ approach – which is actually not ‘new’ at all. We make our food the way we have always done – tweaked to reflect changing tastes.

We see that our customers are better-educated as consumers, and are actively seeking out the good stuff, wanting to know the route from farm to table.

People want to know where their food comes from, and to support local farmers by eating seasonally. Sustainability plays a part in this – we all know that it’s not good for the planet to be eating food that’s been transported thousands of miles to reach us.

I also see a growing pride in the quality of Irish ingredients. We truly have the best produce in the world, and people are starting to wake up to that. Grass-fed beef, free-range lamb, fabulous wild fish and shellfish, and extraordinary dairy are ingredients that we have tended to take for granted – but we shouldn’t.

There is a growing interest in putting vegetables centre-stage, and eating less but better-quality animal protein. Many of our customers have embraced "reducetarianism" – they are not fully vegetarian, but they are definitely cutting down on the amount of animal protein that they consume, whether that’s by eating several meat-free meals a week, or by only eating meat after six in the evening, or only at weekends.

Interest in seaweed is also growing – whether as a condiment that’s an alternative to salt, as an ingredient, and as a snack. Seaweed is a natural nutrition powerhouse, and Ireland has plenty of it.

Why do you think these trends are having a moment?

I think that many of these trends are a natural progression from the trend towards healthy eating that we have seen so much of over the past few years. Thankfully, the more extreme manifestations of that trend – restrictive diets and the exclusion of whole food groups from one’s diet without a medical reason, for instance – are on the wane.

The legacy is an increased awareness of food in terms of health, and an interest on the part of more people to nourish their bodies with good quality food.

I’m also glad to see that our customers are thinking more about flavour – they tell us that they want their food not just to look good, but to taste really good too.

How does a food trend usually emerge?

Food trends usually start with influential and creative chefs in restaurants all over the world, and gradually they filter down through cookery shows, cookbooks and the media.

Trends can be driven by state intervention, too – just look at how Spanish and Nordic cuisine came to the fore when there was targeted government funding.

Social media is of course hugely important, but I think that perhaps sometimes that can put up barriers to people, if the food that they see on Instagram is too perfect.

Are the food trends the same in Ireland and the rest of the world?

Eating more consciously is a trend the world over, but in Ireland we are seeing some trends that are specific to where we live. It makes sense that eating locally is going to mean different things in different places.

Right now, if I had to pick just a handful of ingredients that are trending in Ireland, I’d pick Irish cheeses – which are a match for French cheeses any day; wild Irish fish and game; and seaweed, which is so abundant.

What is the impact of social media on food trends?

We have social media to thank for ubiquity of avo toast! Social media can really drive food trends, and make people aware of new food shops, restaurants and products; but I do worry that the quest for the perfect Instagram photo can be at the expense of good, honest food.

What are the main trends in terms of food health?

Gut health is the big story, and the increasing awareness that processed food is full of nasties that we’d be much better off without. And our policy makers have now taken a stance through sugar tax.

What about drinks?

Fermented drinks, kefir and kombucha are all big news because they promote good bacteria and a healthy gut. Rosemary water is also gathering momentum, with much research to link it to the ‘live long, live well, and you can do both' agenda.

There is a definite shift away from fruit smoothies and drinks that contain lots of sugar, whether natural or otherwise.

How do food trends shape your activity? Do you try and integrate them in your offer?

We tend not to jump on the bandwagon of trends that we see as a flash in the pan, but we do work hard to ensure that we are keeping up with what our customers want, and also to introduce them to trends that we see as having substance.

We have been experimenting with ancient grains, cutting down on sugar, upping our vegetarian offering, and using lots of seaweed in our food.

I think that we are truly lucky to live in Ireland, which has what I honestly believe to be the very best produce in the world. Our food future is very bright.

Earlier this week, Big Bang Theory star, Mayim Bialik, found herself the subject of intense criticism after an op-ed she penned for The New York Times appeared to suggest survivors of sexual assault were in some way responsible for the crimes committed against them.

While the 41-year-old actress did acknowledge the inherent misogyny and sexism within the entertainment industry, she suggested women could challenge it by behaving and addressing in certain ways.

"I still make choices every day as a 41-year-old actress that I think of as self-protecting and wise," she wrote. "I have decided that my sexual self is best reserved for private situations with those I am most intimate with. I dress modestly. I don’t act flirtatiously with men as a policy."

Unsurprisingly, the public were quick to point out the flaws with such an argument  – criticism which appeared to strike a chord with the actress.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, she issued an apology, and attempted to clarify her original points.

"I want to addess my op-ed in the NY Times, and the reaction to it. Let me say clearly and explivitly that I am very sorry," she wrote.

"What you wear and how you behave does not provide any protection from assault, nor does the way you dress or act in any way make you responsible for being assaulted."

Turning her attention to the women who have recently shared their own stories of assault and harrassment, Mayim wrote: "I appluad the bravery of the women who have come forward."

"I support these women as we seek out and demand accountability from the only ones responsible for assault and rape; the people who perpretrate these heinous crimes. I am motivated and driven to work hard to empower women."

Concluding her statement with a sincere apology, she added: "I am truly sorry for causing so much pain, and I hope you can all forgive me."

The post has been met with a mixed response from Twitter users – some of whom felt an apology wasn't necessary and others who thanked the star for taking the time to consider the impact of her words.

"Much respect to you for acknowledging a mistake and apologising. None of us will get it right all the time," wrote one while another asked: "Why are you apologizing for people taking ur words out of context? I read it, u did nothing wrong." (sic)

New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) indicate Ireland's young people are the biggest binge drinkers in the European Union.

According to the statistics, 26.8 per cent of Irish men and 15 per cent of women, aged between 18 and 24, engaged in binge drinking at least once a week in 2014 – well above the European average.

Binge-drinking is defined as consuming six or more drinks at a time, “equivalent to three pints of beer or six pub measures of spirits”.

Mediterranean and Eastern European countries were found to have the lowest rates of binge drinking, and the issue is more prevalent in men that women across the continent.

The report also showed just under a quarter of Irish males (aged 15 and over), and a fifth of females were regular smokers.

Speaking about the figures, Dr Bobby Smyth, of Alcohol Action Ireland, said: “Binge-drinking is normalised in Ireland, and we have to stop this with policy to help improve the health of our future children.”

“The State needs to put the health of children and the young ahead of profits for the drink industry, and this is a public health matter.”

Channing Tatum has decided to pull the plug an upcoming project he was working on with The Weinstein Company.

The decision to halt the development of Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, comes after a string of serious allegations were made against the company's co-founder, Harvey Weinstein.

The film, based on the 2013 Matthew Quick novel, tells the story of troubled teenager whose life is destroyed as a result of sexual abuse.

Teaming up with Magic Mike producer, Reid Carolin, the project was set to be Channing's co-directorial debut.

A post shared by Channing Tatum (@channingtatum) on

A joint statement issued on Instagram reads: “The brave women who had the courage to stand up and speak their truth about Harvey Weinstein are true heroes to us. They are lifting the heavy bricks to build the equitable world we all deserve to live in.”

“Our lone project in development with TWC – Matthew Quick's brilliant book, Forgive Me Leonard Peacock – is a story about a boy whose life was torn asunder by sexual abuse. While we will no longer develop it or anything else that is property of TWC, we are reminded of its powerful message of healing in the wake of tragedy.”

“This is a giant opportunity for real positive change that we proudly commit ourselves to. The truth is out – let's finish what our incredible colleagues started and eliminate abuse from our creative culture once and for all.”

Harvey Weinstein has resigned from The Weinstein Company's board, though he still retains almost a quarter of the company's stock, despite numerous women making allegations of sexual harassment and assault.

The Oireachtas committee tasked with examining Ireland's abortion laws has voted overwhelmingly against retaining the Eight Amendment.

The decision was passed by 15 votes to three, with two Fianna Fáil TDs, James Browne and Anne Rabbitte, abstaining.

Senator Ronán Mullen, Independent TD Mattie McGrath and Fine Gael TD Peter Fitzpatrick voted against the proposal.

Speaking after the vote, Fine Gael TD Kate O'Connell said: "Earlier somebody said this was a bad, bad moment. I think this a great moment for Ireland and all the people of Ireland.

"One of the members spoke of the denial of dignity for a whole section of her community. I belief they were referring to unborn children. Well, I believe that women in Ireland have been denied dignity for years and years now."

The result means the committee can now examine six options for referendum – a simple repeal, repeal with legislation, repeal and replace, and other general options.

Linda Kavanagh, spokesperson for the Abortion Rights Campaign also welcomed the decision: “We can see from today’s testimony that the best thing for the health of women and for anyone who can get pregnant in Ireland is to allow for access to abortion without restrictions as to reason.”

“The most caring thing we can do for the women of Ireland is to allow them to make decisions about their own body in a supportive health structure.”

Oprah Winfrey has given her opinion on the Harvey Weinstein case, which has exposed the dark side of sexism and sexual assault in Hollywood in recent weeks.

An expose by New York Times revealed decades of harassment, rape and inappropriate behavior from one of Tinsel Town's most powerful players – and more women are coming forward every day.

Ophrah told CBS This Morning that she felt that the scandal was a 'moment' for women, speaking out.

A post shared by Oprah (@oprah) on

'I think this is a moment, where no matter what business you work in, the women who not only had the disease to please, that’s a part of it, but who felt that in order to keep my job, to keep my position, in order to keep moving forward…I’ve got to smile,' she told This Morning.

'I’ve gotta look the other way. I’ve gotta pretend he didn’t say that. He didn’t touch me.'

'Those days are about to be over,' she continued, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

'I’m always trying to look for the rainbow in the cloud, whatever is the silver lining,' said the TV mogul.

'And this is what I do know for sure: Something this major happens, when you have the fallout, 50 women coming forward, that it’s a watershed moment.'
