Following consultation with the Government's National Emergency Co-Ordination Group, MCD have confirmed tonight’s Zara Larsson concert at the Olympia Theatre has been rescheduled.

Determined not to let her Irish fans down, the singer has changed her European travel plans and will now perform at the Olympia theatre tomorrow night, October 17.

Event organisers say the decision to postpone had been taken in the interest of customer and staff safety, and in light of the widespread cancellation of public transportation due to the National Red Weather alert in place in response to Hurricane Ophelia.

All tickets remain valid for tomorrow night's performance.

Winter has officially arrived, ladies.

And with winter comes cosy clothes, cups of hot chocolate…. and cold, cracked skin, right?

If you're determined to keep your skin in tip-top condition this time around, why not follow the advice of Jennifer Rock, AKA The Skin Nerd, who knows a thing or two about caring for your complexion in the cold.

We'll let Jennifer take it from here…

1. Hydration

"I am not a fan of rich creams in general – regardless of having oily or dry skin!" she explains.

"I personally opt for serums as their lightweight texture ensure they penetrate into the lower layers, which serves a more useful purpose. In fact, if the skin is functioning optimally, you will not need a moisturiser as the skin will and should be able to create its own oil and hydration factors."

"Psychologically, people love the feel of the cream as it’s comforting – but remember that a thick cream is not feeding it, just protecting it."

"Layering serums is much more worthwhile. Having said this, those with skin conditions, such as psoriasis or eczema, and those who work outdoors need a barrier cream to protect their skin from the elements."

Acid Exfoliation

"If you haven’t already, I’d recommend ditching granular exfoliation, as it strips the skin and creates micro-tears on its surface."

"Instead, introduce acids such as lactic acid and up your vitamin A intake, as these methods are much more respectful to the skin," Jennifer advises.

"Gritty scrubs do not encourage the skin to work itself out, while an acid will."

Diet

"When my skins needs change I tend to change my diet more than my skincare to ensure my skin gets the nutrients it needs."

I increase my intake of fish, omegas, nuts seeds and oils, as this is vital to give the internal skin the tools to lock the moisture in, otherwise we are slapping it on top and not sealing it in."

"You know what I say –‘Feed the skin from within’. There’s only so much a good skincare regime can do!"

The Peter McVerry Trust has announced it is opening extra communal spaces and extending hours as Hurricane Ophelia batters the country today.

The homeless charity are doing so in response to the Red Weather Warnings issued by Met Éireann yesterday evening.

Anyone who encounters rough sleepers today is urged to advise them to access emergency shelter.

Additional communal spaces will be open at Richmond Street and Aungier Street, and transport will be provided to ensure that all members of the homeless community can avail of the shelter over the next 24 hours.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “Peter McVerry Trust is constant contact with the Dublin Region Homeless Executive and will take any additional measures we can to ensure the safety of people in homelessness during Storm Ophelia.”

A number of businesses have also invited rough sleepers to seek shelter in their premises.

Emergency hostels at Little Britain Street, Brú Aimsir, Mount Brown and Blessington Street will also remain open throughout the course of the day with a total of 210 beds available for over night accommodation.

No homeless person should have to put their life at risk by sleeping rough tonight, which is why it is vitally important that we share this information with those who may not be able to access it.

They added: "Staff Safety is our priority and the infrastructure will also need to be checked for debris and water levels."

Pussycat Dolls founder, Robin Antin has denied claims made by former member, Kaya Jones, that the band was a 'prostitute ring'.

It comes after Kaya recently posted a series of tweets in which she said the girls had to "sleep with whoever they say."

The claims come amid a ripple in the entertainment industry as women continue to come forward with allegations against the famed film producer, Harvey Weinstein.

Many fans have thanked the star for speaking about her experiences and praised her for being so brave, though the band's bosses were quick to dismiss the claims.

According to The Blast, group founder, Robin Antin said Kaya was never an official member of the group and was "clearly looking for her 15 minutes."

In the series of shocking tweets, Kaya went on to mention a 'den mother', before calling on them to tell the public "why another 1 of her girl group girls committed suicide?"

The rest of the group, fronted by Nicole Scherzinger, have yet to comment on the allegations, and it is unclear at this stage whether or not an investigation will commence.

It's highly likely that for every report you've read on the acts allegedly carried out by Harvey Weinstein, you've read as many statements from Hollywood heavy-hitters condemning his conduct.

However, while the likes of Emma Thompson provided a reasoned assessment of Hollywood and the wider world's mistreatment of women, many would argue that  actresses like Mayim Bialik did not.

The Big Bang Theory star has been the subject of intense criticism since penning an op-ed for The New York Times entitled Being a Feminist in Harvey Weinstein's World.

Mayim begins her piece with a reflection on her first impression of the entertainment industry as a 'prominent-nosed, awkward, geeky, Jewish 11-year-old' and admits that she found herself consumed by the notion of self-improvement.

From longing for a smaller nose to wishing for more curves, Mayim was quick to identify that the aesthetic played as big, if not bigger, a role as talent in Hollywood, especially when it came to adolescent girls and young women.

Few can argue with such an assessment, but it's Mayim's next set of points which have raised considerable controversy.

In a move which has seen the actress accused of victim-blaming, Mayim outlines her approach to navigating the entertainment industry, and used both her choice of clothes and conduct as examples.

"I still make choices every day as a 41-year-old actress that I think of as self-protecting and wise," she said. "I have decided that my sexual self is best reserved for private situations with those I am most intimate with. I dress modestly. I don’t act flirtatiously with men as a policy."

While actively condemning the misuse of power in Hollywood along with alleged actions of Harvey Weinstein, the actress appears to place responsibility at the feet of women who are trying to navigate an industry known for its misogyny.

"In a perfect world, women should be free to act however they want. But our world isn’t perfect. Nothing — absolutely nothing — excuses men for assaulting or abusing women. But we can’t be naïve about the culture we live in."

Unsurprisingly, the article has come in for massive criticism online, with Twitter uesrs slating the actress for her supposedly feminist take on sexual assault.

Mayim has responded to the backlash on her own Twitter page and insisted that the accusations levelled at her are 'absurd'.

"It's so sad how vicious people are being when I basially live to make things better for women," she wrote.

Mayim's article comes just days after Donna Karan suggested women were 'asking for it' on account of the clothes they choose to wear.

Hundreds of students have been left disappointed after NUIG announced it would reschedule today's planned graduation ceremony due to the effects of hurricane Ophelia.

"NUI Galway will be closed tomorrow Monday 16th October due to the arrival of Storm Ophelia," a post on the university's Facebook page read.

"In the interests of safety, staff and students are not expected to attend the University. A skeleton staff will be on campus during the morning to give advice and guidance to anyone not receiving this message. All conferring ceremonies which were scheduled for tomorrow will now take place on Saturday (21st October)."

The announcement came late yesterday evening, and while the safety of staff and students is the number one priority, many graduates have been left frustrated by the lack of notice.

One commented: "Lads this is disgraceful. People's families have travelled, money has been spent and now people will miss their family members graduating. You've made a massive mistake."

Another said: "This is an absolute joke. How am I meant to reschedule my plans with 5 days notice? I work on weekends and I mightn't even be able to attend my own grad. Absolute disgrace."

Family and friends of graduates had made arrangements months in advance with some even spending up to €500 on hotel rooms for the night.

"The timing of the cancellation of Monday’s graduations is appalling. We were on route to Galway when you finally posted. Our hotel has advised they have to charge, almost €500 which could’ve been avoided at 24 hours notice, i.e before 4pm. We all knew about storm Ophelia before 4pm today."

As mentioned in the statement, a 'skeleton staff' will be on campus tomorrow morning to inform any students who may not have received the message overnight.

The University has apologised for the inconvenience caused and has said it expects business to resume as normal on Tuesday.
