Yearly Archives: 2017

If you're as obsessed with gin in all its variations as we are, we're going to need you to take a deep breath before reading on, ladies.

All set? OK.

In addition to tearing into a gin Advent Calendar over the festive season and rocking a GINgle Bells jumper this Yuletide, you'll also be showcasing your skills on the Gin Pong front.

Set to go on sale at the end of next week, Gin Pong is the perfect present for the gin aficionado in your life. (And yes ladies, we do mean you.)

In case you're not familiar with the concept, all you need to do is throw the ball into your opponent's glass and drink every time one of you shoots and scores.

But before you get too excited, the gin is not included… although something tells us you lot rarely run out.

If you want to get your hands on your very own game, you can order it right here.

Thank us later.

If you've been plumping for Instagram Stories over Snapchat in recent months, you're most certainly not alone.

According to a recent study conducted in the United States by marketing firm Mediakix, influencers, who are active on both platforms, are more likely to opt for Instagram Stories when sharing images and videos.

In fact, the research, which focussed on the activity of 12 top influencers, established that they were posting to Instagram 44 per cent more and Snapchat 33 per cent less.

Over the course of two 30-day periods in February and August of this year, the firm tracked the number of posts shared by the influencers, and established that the popularity of Snapchat is waning when it comes to frequent usage.

The study highlighted the key findings, with the report stating: "On average, influencers posted 7.6 Stories per day on Instagram, compared to 3.5 Stories per day on Snapchat."

"There were two times as many Instagram Stories as Snapchat Stories posted throughout the study."

"In comparison to the data from our previous study (6 months ago), there was a 33 per cent decrease in Snapchat Stories usage and a 14 per cent increase in Instagram Stories usage."

"This shift indicates a clear preference for Instagram Stories over Snapchat Stories among top influencers."

Instagram Stories, which has been lauded for its user-friendly interface, launched in August 2016, and currently boasts 250 million users.

Friendships can be a tricky business.

Ostensibly, they’re based on support and reassurance, with a healthy dose of mutual humour and shared history thrown in for good measure.

In reality, they’re a little more complex.

In fact, we’d go as far as to suggest that you have at least one pal who you struggle to fully understand or who struggles to understand you.

On paper, you’re ride-or-die pals, but there’s always been that one little thing that has niggled at you, hasn’t there?

If you have something you wished your friend understood about you (or themselves), we want to hear about it right here.

So tell us, ladies, what do you wish your BFF knew? Good, bad or indifferent, we're all ears.

Fear not: you shall remain completely anonymous, but your response may be featured in a future article because let's face it, we all like reading a confession or two.

It's that time of year again – evenings are getting shorter, lipstick shades are getting warmer, and the LUSH Halloween collection is back on the shelves.

Last month, the ethical beauty brand took to Instagram to unveil some spooky treats for the season ahead, and after a long wait, we can finally reveal that seasonal products will land in Dublin stores tomorrow morning.

Think ghoulish bath bombs, fierce lip tints, and all the glitter you can get your hands on.

Oh and that's not all.

Rumour has it the Christmas collection will also be available from tomorrow – meaning we'll all be smelling like Snow Fairy for the foreseeable future.

But hey, we're not complaining.

UCD Student Union President, Katie Ascough, was the subject of intense criticism last month following her decision to remove information pertaining to abortion services from the university's magazine.

Katie, who is pro-life but pledged to facilitate the SU's pro-choice stance upon election, argued that providing the information was illegal, and her decision to remove it was based solely on legal advice.

Katie's decision was not supported by other members of the Student's Union, and as press attention around the issue intensified, a petition was created to call for her impeachment.

However, it has been confirmed that despite amassing more than 1,600 signatures, the petition has been rejected by Returning Officer Stephen Devine because it did not contain a section which allowed students to provide their signatures.

As the number of people who petitioned for her impeachment exceeded the number who elected her, those calling for her impeachment have stated they will address the omitted signature section, and re-submit.

A young Irish teen has penned a song for her TV idol, Ellen DeGeneres, in the hope that she will be invited to perform on the US chat show.

Being such a huge fan of the show, 17-year-old Eimear O'Tuathail thought she'd chance her arm by composing a cheeky song to grab the attention of the much-loved TV host.

In the chorus, the Galway native tells Ellen how meeting her would be a 'dream come true.'

“Hey Ellen, got a second? Cause I've got something to say – you're my idol, you's make my dream come true if I could meet you.”

Speaking ot RTÉ Entertainment, Eimear said: "She’s really, really funny and every time I watch her show she never fails to make smile. She brings me a lot of joy. I spent a lot of time on the song and it would be great if she heard it.

"I’d love her to hear the song but the dream is to meet her and perform the song on her show. Then I think I’d cry! Hahaha."

And this isn't the fist time the talented performer has drawn inspiration from one of her heroes. Eimear went on to explain how an upsetting incident prompted her to express her emotion through music.

"There was a girl called Christina Grimmie who was a singer on You Tube but she was shot at a concert last summer," she says.

"That upset me so I decided to write a tribute to her which I also put up on You Tube so I suppose the Ellen song is not the first time I’ve done a tribute song."

Eimear has been writing and singing since the age of 12, and her style is often likened to that of Regina Spektor – though she's also a fan of Justin Bieber, Demi Lavato and Tori Kelly.

Hope you're listening Ellen – this girl is going all the way to the top!

For as long as Sex and the City has been on air (and for the 13 years that has followed its small-screen conclusion), Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker have been plagued with rumours regarding their relationship.

And ever since the first rumour began circulating back in 1998, the two ladies have been at pains to stress the inaccuracy of reports which suggested there existed ill will between the pair.

However, it looks like it's finally all come to a head this week, following KIm Cattrall's appearance on Piers Morgan Life Stories.

While the 61-year-old actress has always taken a diplomatic stance on her history with her co-star, it appears that recent press regarding Sex and the City 3 has forced Kim into a position where she felt compelled to speak out against SJP.

According to recent reports. Kim was the reason for the cancellation of the third SATC film  – an accusation she takes very personally.

"Reflecting on the accusations, Kim told Piers: "It’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’ that I’m demanding or a diva."

"I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous."

And she doesn't stop there.

Focussing her attention on Sarah Jessica, Kim suggested that her former co-star could have reacted more positively towards her decision not to take part.

"And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex And The City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer," Kim revealed. "I really think she could have been nicer."

Shining a light on a relationship the press have, for years, attempted to dissect, Kim revealed that it's far from functional.

"Usually what happens in a healthy relationship is that someone, or a transaction for a job in my business, is that someone says, ‘Are you available?’ and you say ‘Yes’ and here’s the job and you say ‘Yes, but thank you very much but I’m sort of over here right now but thank you very much,’ and that person turns to you, and they say ‘That’s great, good luck to you, I wish you the best.’"

"That’s not what happened here, this is, it feels like a toxic relationship," she opined.

We can only imagine SJP's reaction to Kim's interview.

Last night, Irish TV audiences feasted their eyes on one of the most talked about programmes to hit our screens this year.

TV3's Living With Lucy, follows presenter, Lucy Kennedy, as she moves into the homes of various celebrities and public figures for a weekend, and this week's guest may have been the most controversial yet – Katie Hopkins.

Famous for her unpopular opinions, Katie Hopkins has no qualms about sharing her strong views with the world.

And rather than brush that under the carpet, Lucy challenged some of her controversial comments and even called her an “absolute b*itch” while discussing her tweets over dinner.

But it wasn't all insults and name calling (she was living in the woman's house after all) – the pair actually managed to find common ground on a number of topics including marriage and motherhood.

The show was full of ups and downs, and many viewers took to Twitter to admit they had changed their mind about the 'most hated woman in Britain' – though not everyone was converted.

Here's how audiences reacted:

Every year on October 3, die-hard Mean Girls fans pay tribute to a particular scene in the iconic teen movie by reminding everyone on social media of the date.

And this year, the cast themselves decided to use the ongoing interest in the 2004 film to raise money for the victims of the Las Vegas shooting last weekend.

In footage which was uploaded to YouTube, key members of the cast, including Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, Jonathan Bennet and Daniel Franzese, referenced some of the most memorable lines in the film before explaining how a simple donation would make a huge difference to those affected by the Las Vegas massacre.

After establishing a GoFundMe page, the cast asked fans to donate as little as $3 in order to amass a goal total of $300,000.

"Guys look, we know fetch is never going to happen, but we can make ths happen," our beloved Gretchen told those watching.

In 2015, Steven Avery became a household name after the hugely successful Netflix series, Making a Murderer, documented his arrest and trial for the the murder of Teresa Halbach.

He has maintained his innocence since his conviction in 2005, however, on Tuesday, the 55-year-old was denied his request for a new trial.

Avery's lawyer, Katheleen Zellner, had been hoping to present new evidence to the court if a new trial had been granted, though she did admit that some of the tests had not been completed.

“We have additional test result and witness affidavits,” she said in a statement.

“The scientific testing is not completed, we remain optimistic that Mr. Avery’s conviction will be vacated.”

Sheboygan County Circuit Judge, Angela Sutkiewicz, said that the evidence presented so far, in her opinion, did not warrant a new trial.

Last year, Avery's nephew, Brendan Dassy, had his conviction overturned after a judge ruled that investigators had taken advantage of his disabilities and tricked him into making a confession.

Despite this setback, Steven Avery's legal team say they remain “optimistic that [his] conviction will be vacated" and will continue to seek a new trial.
