*Disclaimer: Mild spoilers ahead*

Based on the true life story of Olympic figure skater, Tonya Harding, and told in the style of a dark mockumentray, I, Tonya follows the rise and fall of one of America's most talked about athletes.

From her troubled home life and abusive relationship to the infamous attack on ice skater Nancy Kerrigan, viewers are given a no holes barred account of the events that led to the collapse of her professional career.

Brilliantly portrayed by the excellent Margot Robbie, Tonya Harding is anything but your typical skater.

Brash yet likeable in equal measures, her feisty attitude is apparent right from the get go.

Raised primarily by her over-bearing mother, played by Allison Janney, viewers are first introduced to Tonya at the tender age of four when, despite being told she is too young, she signs up for figure skating classes at her local ice rink.

Determined to be at the top of her game, she dedicates her entire childhood to perfecting her technique, before dropping out of high-school to focus on skating full-time.

It's from this point onwards that everything seems to gop down hill for the up-and coming star.

From toxic living situations and an abusive partner to unwanted media attention and socio-economic prejudice, one can't help but feel Tonya was dealt a fairly sh*t hand.

Sure, she's a little rough around the edges, but her desire to succeed and love for her sport make her this year's ultimate cinematic anti-heroine.

One of the most impressive things about the film is how director, Craig Gillespie, manages to effortlessly break the fourth wall with the help of fictional interviews dotted throughout the film.

With that, viewers are presented with various perspectives, and thus allowed to choose what version of events to believe.

The truth is there is not truth – and that's what makes I, Tonya such an exciting watch.

Tonya Harding and Margot Robbie

Gripping from start to finish, I, Tonya is without a doubt Margot Robbie's most powerful performance to date.

Funny, dynamic and above all, thought provoking, each scene is better than the last.

Our rating – 4 stars!

However, there are also many free things to see in New York, and they’re actually brilliant!

Check these out, you’ll be glad you did…

New York Public Library

Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan (right beside Bryant Park), the library is a great place to go for a wander. Entry is free, and there are a number of great exhibitions to see, PLUS lovely little gift shop.

It’s a winter wonderland out there! We’re thinking tonight’s plans involve curling up with a good book and some tea…

The Museum of Modern Art is totally free on a Friday from 4–8pm, and you will be able to lay eyes on beautiful works of art from Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, to name a few.

Central Park

You can easily lose an entire day just wandering around Central Park. Lay down in Sheep’s Meadow and enjoy the ambience, or go and stroll around the famous Belvedere Castle. So many glorious ways to see the City that never sleeps.

The High Line

The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th and 12th Avenues, and it is one of the coolest strolls you will ever take.

Staten Island Ferry

If you want to catch a glimpse of the Lady in the Bay, and fancy a stunning view of Manhattan, then the Staten Island Ferry is for you! It is a totally free service, that brings commuters (and tourists) from South Ferry in lower Manhattan, across to the borough of Staten Island. Well worth the trip!

This delightful zoo is “pay what you wish” on a Wednesday, so you can literally enter for a dollar (or less, if you’re really struggling!)  You can feast your eyes on some of the world’s most beautiful animals, and even take part in the “adopt a ‘roach” programme.

Roosevelt Island

The best part of visiting this adorable island is actually getting there, thanks to the boxy red tram that glides above the East River. It’s like a cable car in a ski resort, but with a prettier view. The island is home to tennis courts, ball fields and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, a tribute to the 32nd president of America.

No trip to NYC would be complete without a stroll across one of the most iconic bridges in the world. We would suggest walking the Brooklyn Bridge in the evening, just before the sunsets, to capture some truly breathtaking views.

FIT Museum

Are you are a total fashionista, and fancy strolling around one of the loveliest museums in New York? Well then head down to the Fashion Institute of Technology, and enjoy the free (and gorgeous) exhibitions.

The Brooklyn Brewery

There are free tours of Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Brewery, on the hour, every hour from 1-5pm on Saturday, and 1-4pm on Sunday.  You can buy beer tokens ($5 each or five for $20) to sample the refreshing brews, or just skip the tour altogether and spend the afternoon in the bare-bones tasting room.

It’s a snowy day outside, so we’re hunkered down over a fresh batch of red wine barrels in our Tasting Room. Stay warm, NYC.

I personally hold Chloé perfume in a special place in my heart – as it's the scent I wore in my late teens.

It brings me back to my Debs, sitting the Leaving Cert and starting college… all major events in a person's life.

So, when I heard they were releasing a shiny new fragrance, I knew I had to try it!

Needless to say ladies, I was far from disappointed.

Called Nomade, the new perfume is designed to evoke a vision of escape. It is a scent that captures the spirit of effortless elegance, of confidence combined with freedom that defines the spirit of Chloé.

Right up our alley.

What does it smell like, I hear you ask?

Well, it is a 'mix of strength and softness, the facets of this powerful floral chypre blow like the winds of freedom.'

'The intense, mineral character of the oak moss is shrouded in the voluptuous sweetness of the mirabelle plum. From this freshness emanates a sensation of flowery luminescence carried by freesia.'

Honestly, I know that kind of sounds like mumbo jumbo, but when you smell the perfume, it all actually makes sense.

I promise.

Met Éireann has warned the country about the upcoming harsh, icy weather, with severe frost and snow showers on the way.

We may have our winter woollies at the ready, and a fridge full of food, however, it’s important to remember that your pets need just as much care during these wintery conditions.

The DSPCA has shared some helpful tips for those of you who will be caring for your fluffy friends during the icy conditions.

Taking to Facebook, the DSPCA Veterinary Hospital shared some advice that will certainly help those of you with pets at home.

They explained that keeping your pets inside, warm and safe should be your priority, especially with heavy snow and very cold temperatures forecasted for the coming days.

“Keep your animals indoors, supply cats with litter trays and keep your dog on a lead,” they shared.

If your cat or dog has been outside make sure to keep them super warm, “Dry them thoroughly after being outside.”

Many people will be using salt or grit on footpaths and roads this week, and even though they prevent accidents for humans, they can cause great discomfort for animals, “Clean their paws if they come in to contact with salt or grit.” If you have a dog, you may also want to get some doggie boots to protect his paws against ice and rock salt.

“Ensure microchip details are up to date and they are wearing an ID tag,” they warned.

Another thing to do is to hit the bonnet of your car before starting it as cats tend to climb into the engine when they are cold.

It’s important to remember that even if your pet usually stays outside, you must bring them in when the conditions worsen. If the weather is too cold for a human, it definitely isn’t suitable for an animal.

However, if you are not able to bring your pet inside, they said, “Make sure they have a secure warm shelter, food and water at all times.”

Once you’ve looked after your own pets, try help out other animals, including birds, something as simple as putting out fresh water or seeds can help.

“In case of a veterinary emergency, have your vet’s number saved or written down, some vets don’t provide on-site out of hours services so be aware if you need to travel to an unfamiliar location, have the directions ready before you need them,” they concluded.

Jurors are continuing to hear evidence in the rape trial of two Ireland and Ulster rugby players, as audio recordings are played to the court.

Paddy Jackson, 26, and Stuart Olding, 24, both deny raping a woman at Mr. Jackson's Belfast residence in 2016.

The court has so far heard statements from a number witnesses, including the victim herself, who addressed the judge and jury from behind a blue curtain so she didn't have to face her alleged abusers.

Jurors have now been presented with audio recording of the police interviews which took place just two days after the alleged rape.

During question, Olding told the PSNI's rape crime unit that he “didn't penetrate her vagina with my penis at any point."

He also told detectives that he did not see Jackson penetrate the woman.

"I didn't see that," he said.

During further questioning, Olding added: "I didn't see Paddy penetrating her from behind. He was behind her but I didn't see him penetrating her."

He also rejected claims that he forced the victim to perform oral sex and when asked by police what made him believe she had given consent, he said: “She was doing it. I wasn't forcing her.”

Meanwhile, a juror in th trial had been discharged due to illness. The 11 remaining jurors will continue to hear the evidence presented from both sides.

The trial is expected to conclude in mid-March.

So, they say the eyes are the window to the soul and while it's true that they can play a big part in how we physically express emotion , it seems that our eye colour may reveal a lot more about us than we originally thought.

According to a recent study, published in Current Biology, the colour of our eyes can actually reveal a lot about certain personality traits.

It seems that people with lighter eyes are more likely to be egocentric, competitive and sceptical, while those on the other end of the scale tend to be more sympathetic and altruistic.

A team of researchers analysed over 400 people of Northern European ancestry, comparing iris colour and personality traits for each individual.

Results found that a link exists between eye colour and the same genes that form our frontal lobes, meaning that people who share similar irises are likely to share similar behaviours.

What's more, it seems that blue eyed females are more likely to be noticed by their male counterparts – but hey, Van Morrisson didn't write a song called Blue Eyed Girl, did he?

The authors explained that there was an evolutionary explanation for this:

“The rare-colour advantage of light eyed females, is likely to increase the chance of being noticed by a male.”

“Moreover, competitive personality traits (such as wanting to beat others and being sceptical of others’ intentions) secure the long-term commitment necessary for self and offspring survival.”

So, what do you reckon? Is there any truth behind these finding or should we file it under the same nonsensical notion that blondes have more fun?

One glance at social media proves that aesthetic surgery is on the rise in Ireland, and a set of perfectly pouty lips is the most covetable of all qualities.

Social media saturation, reality TV super stars and selfies are all being blamed for the trend, which has seen a massive spike on Irish shores according to Google trend data.

High maintenance glamour is considered mandatory by some, with hair extensions, microbladed brows, eyelash extensions and lip fillers accessorising the perfect designer it-bag.

The trend skyrocketed in early 2015, just after cosmetics queen Kylie Jenner admitted to her penchant for the procedure.

However, the current obsession with lip fillers is not limited to a niche market.

Indeed, women from all walks of life, from nurses and models to CEOs and students, are all opting to get in on the trend, but it's particularly widespread among younger Irish women.

A photo posted by Jess Brennan (@jess_brennan_x) on

Amanda Holtz, an American student studying in Dublin, is curious about trying lip fillers for the first time.

"I think I've always been a little self conscious about my lips. Not that they're weird looking or anything but because to me they aren't perfect," she says in conversation with SHEmazing!

Citing social media, she adds: "On Instagram everyone seems to be having a bit of work done, it's almost beginning to seem like the norm in order to be beautiful. There's this idea of beauty and it's difficult not to compare yourself to that."

"I do find myself being bothered by my thin lips and I know that I will end up trying lip injections especially because I feel that they are just a little change that could make a big difference to my confidence. And if I end up hating it, they only last a few months anyway!"

A photo posted by megan_mckenna_ (@megan_mckenna_) on

While Amanda is optimistic about perusing a procedure, extensive research is necessary in Ireland as the process is unregulated.

So-called 'cosmetic cowboys' have sprung up all over the country, administering fillers with little to no experience.

A quick Google search shows that purchasing the liquid filler and corresponding medical needles and cannulas is just the click of a mouse away.

Some of these individuals rent out hotel rooms to administer the fillers, and as Irish suppliers will only sell to registered doctors, nurses and dentists (not beauticians) there is no way of knowing what the product is or whether the person wielding the needle has any experience whatsoever, as there are no regulations about who can perform the procedures.

April Kavanagh, the trained nurse behind NurseCare Aesthetics, admits that "unfortunately the process is mostly unregulated."

"It angers me that people who aren't medically trained don't know what can go wrong with these procedures. I have had to correct lips that are the result of unethical prctice."

"Too much product injected into the lips can cause more swelling and can cut off the blood supply to the lips and compress nerve endings, causing permanent damage. It's someone's face at the end of the day."

A main artery runs through the lips, and if filler is injected in to or around the artery, it an cause a very serious complication called an occlusion, where the blood flow is reduced or completely stopped.

"The area of skin or other tissues that are supplied by the affected vessel will start to die without the necessary blood supply," says cosmetic specialist site Real Self

One woman who knows all too well the effects of a poorly done procedure is Claudia McGloin.

Claudia had some fillers done four years ago which left her with lumps in her lips that would not go away. Since opening her own clinic, The Claudia McGloin Clinic, in Co Sligo, she has moved on from her "botched" job and now specialises in Dracula therapy.

She has witnessed the increase in interest in the area, and warns against viewing lip fillers as anything less than a medical procedure.

"Because fillers are available in beauty salons and hair dressing salons, it makes it look like these are beauty treatments when in fact they are medical procedures," she said.

"Cheap deals using cheap fillers also make it look affordable. Research tells us that women particularly after a break up go through a transition. Years ago it was a hair-cut or colour but today it's cosmetic surgery."

"In Ireland there are no regulations and unfortunately no rules which state who can and who cannot inject fillers. It is however illegal for anyone in Ireland other than a doctor to inject Botox so we should have broader regulations in place to stop ‘just anyone’ injecting."

"It's scary the number of non-medics in Ireland injecting at the moment and it's increasing by the week."

"I'm highly involved in Patient Safety in both the UK and Ireland and am constantly campaigning for regulation," said the nurse, who was recently awarded the Highly Commended Nurse of the Year 2016 award for her dedication to safety in beauty.

A photo posted by Chloe Ferry(@chloegshore1) on

Through her work, Claudia has heard horror stories of cheap filler procedures, with some unregulated places even offering to split a syringe of filler between two people.

"This is unsafe, unethical and unprofessional. A syringe as clearly stated on the box from the manufacturers is for single use only. It doesn't matter if it's your mum you're sharing with – it's wrong!"

"Practitioners should also be insured and you should be able to see certificates of training and updates. Always ask questions. Ensure you see the filler coming out of a new packet," said Claudia, who has set up a campaign to educate people on making safe, informed decisions when it comes to cosmetic procedures.

Nurses should be registered with the Nursing And Midwifery Board Of Ireland (NMBI), dentists with The Irish Dental Council (IDC) and doctors with the Irish Medical Council

April, of Nursecare Aesthetics, turns away young girls everyday who come to her practice brandishing photos of Kylie Jenner's Instagram.

"I have absolutely turned away clients who want work done for the wrong reasons. Some people come in for a procedure, then call me up two weeks later looking to get more," she tells SHEmazing!

The registered nurse takes a strong stance against working on young people. "I would never work on a 17-year-old and have turned many away. They want a 'big pout.'

"They absolutely have unrealistic expectations because of Kylie Jenner, They come in looking for a half ml of filler expecting to look bee-stung. Half a ml is one tenth of a Calpol spoon."

With the youngest Kardashian-Jenner championing the trend, after getting her lips plumped at the tender age of 16, it's no wonder that young girls are seeking out the procedure.

After the teenager altered her features back in 2014, the popularity of the procedure boomed, with one Irish aesthetician going from doing one procedure a month to 20 per day.

A photo posted by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

"I've heard of people as young as 14 getting them done," revealed aesthetics veteran Kerry Hanaphy, who has completed an estimated 100,000 procedures on Irish women in the last 12 years.

While some of us were lucky to get our nails manicured for our Debs, lip fillers are now regularly on the beauty list for young girls on the brink of leaving secondary school.

"The legal age is 18, but I get emails from underage girls, 17, everyday saying the have their mum's consent. I turn them away," said the clinician, who also cites reality stars like Megan McKenna and the Geordie Shore girls as major inspirations for the trend.

"Over the last 18 months because of the lip filler trend they have become 80 percent of my business. I do 20 clients a day and I could do more, but I cap it at that."

"You have to have someone say to young people enough is enough."

"One girl, she said she doesn't care what she looks like in real life as long as she looks good in a selfie."

Kerry, who fills the lips of some of Ireland's top bloggers such as Ashley Kehoe, urges people who are considering the aesthetic tweek to do their research.

"Question the qualifications, ask who is doing the procedure, what they are putting in and where they are injecting – it's where the filler is that's key."

A photo posted by Kerry Hanaphy (@kerry.hanaphy) on

Irish super model Tiffany Stanley also spoke to SHEmazing! from her home in California, where she moved in 2013, about how casual the procedures have become.

"Lip fillers are very popular in LA. Even the majority of men here get them done. It's nothing unusual and it's not even a topic people talk about, it's just a normal part of most people's beauty regime, like getting a facial or manicure," says the Kildare native.

"The trend has hit Ireland now too, women want to look and feel their best. If it helps a woman feel more confident and empowered , I see no problem with it. I think Kylie Jenner's transformation really inspired a lot of people to try fillers. She looks amazing," said the model, who has been working in LA since landing a role in the Hollywood film Brothers James: Retribution, and has previously had some filler work done on her chin.

While fillers have gotten something of a bad wrap lately thanks to their popularity and lack of regulations, they are at the tamer end of the cosmetic stratosphere.

There is no aesthetic involved and the results fade after three to six months.

"Lip fillers are not a bad thing," adds Kerry Hannaphy, who has worked on numerous clients looking for a subtle improvement in lip volume or symmetry.

"I've had numerous emails about how it's improved the confidence of people, they feel so much better about themselves and they don't feel so depressed."

"It's aesthetics, so you look better, it's not about changing your features."

While we're all over here living in 2018, the students of NUI Maynooth are living in 3018 thanks to the introduction of the new energy pods on campus.

Bleary-eyed students can now take a well-deserved study break and recharge in one of the library's designated nap pods.

The university will be the first in the country to introduce the innovative technology – and to be honest, we're just raging they weren't around when we were in college.

The futuristic sleep stations feature a privacy visor, built-in speaker system and that timer that will allow students to rest for up to 20 minutes.

Needless to say students have welcomed their arrival with many taking to Facebook to express their delight at the news.

“Where have these been for the last six years?” wrote one.

While others suggested that other institutions follow suit – and who could blame them?

One of these wouldn't go astray in the office canteen tbh…

We've all seen those memes, right?

"When it's payday and you start buying unnecessary shit."

Well, we have discovered the most obnoxious, and unnecessary purchase ever… in the form of an ice cream dipped in gold.

Obviously like.

How the hell does that work, I hear you ask?

The waffle cone is sprayed with 24-karat gold dust, filled with vanilla soft serve, and coated with 24-karat gold leaves on the vanilla where the “creaminess of the vanilla makes the gold form to every curve.”

It's all very casual.

Anyway, in a not-so-shocking twist, these cones are currently being sold in America, specifically Anaheim, California.

Snowopolis (10/10 for the name) is located at the Anaheim GardenWalk, a shopping centre within walking distance from California’s Disneyland Resort.

The cone will set you back $15 – which for some cheeky solid gold, seems pretty reasonable?

Anyway, if anyone is heading to California this summer, please try this outrageous treat.
