When we picture our perfect proposal, for some of us it might involve major fan fare, a big gesture and maybe a hot air balloon, while for others it's an intimate, quiet and subtle affair.

In noone's mind does an avocado scream proposal perfection.

However, to each their own, as it seems that avocado proposals are actually a bit of a thing.

According to The Cut, the avocado proposal is so far quite rare, but it might just be the next big way to use your leftover avos.

One Instagram food stylist Food Deco seems to have started the trend, after photographing an engagement ring lodged inside the most flawless avocado we ever did see. Seriously, it's prettier than we are.

The caption reads: 'tag someone who should propose like this,' and according to the comments section, there over 2000 people who should.

Millennials get a bad wrap for their obsession with avocados, and rankly, this is the cherry on top.

Yes we love them chopped up in our salads, yes we love them mashed up on toast, ye we might even consider drinking our lattes out of them for novelty value – but do we want our engagement ring to be waiting in one?

We're not so sure.

After a weekend away, but don't want to break the bank?

Well, in case you forgot, there's a bustling young city across the boarder just waiting to be explored – and one thing's for sure, our friends in the North definitely know how to party.

The streets of Belfast are brimming with lively pubs and clubs, so to help you make the your decision we've narrowed down our top five.

And seeing as it's just two hours from Dublin – it would be rude not to really.

1. Filthy Mc Nastys – Dublin Road, Belfast

Not quite a pub, but not quite a club – this quirky venue is perfect for anyone looking for great night out, minus the sweaty dance floor.

It's also got an amazing roof terrace – the perfect setting to catch up with friends, have drunk DMCs or even get a sneaky shift.

2. The Duke of York – Commercial Ct, Belfast

A favourite with locals and visitors alike, The Duke of York is always packed with revellers looking for a good night thanks to its central Cathedral Quarter location.

It's where Snow Patrol played some of their earliest gigs, and even today it's a great spot to catch some of the city's up and coming talent.

3. The Dirty Onion – Hill St, Belfast

If you're the type to spend most of your night in the beer garden then this is the place for you.

Set in one of Belfast's oldest buildings, The Dirty Onion boasts a massive outdoor terrace and great live bands from the local music scene.

But that's not all. Upstairs, the Yardbird restaurant serves delicious rotisserie chicken, meaning you won't have to travel far for your post-pints feed.

4. Ollie's – Cathedral Quarter, Belfast

Ask any 20-something hailing from the Northern capital where they're heading this weekend and they'll tell you here.

Attached to the city's Merchant Hotel, Ollie's members-only bar makes it a popular choice for those looking for a more exclusive night out – but don't worry, there's non-members bars for us mere peasants too.

Oh, and it's got a Sophie's-esque swing, so you can grab that perfect Insta snap.

5. The Kremlin – Donegall St, Belfast

A Soviet-themed gay nightclub in the heart of Belfast city? What's not to love?

With three different rooms, stylish interiors and themed nights, Kremlin in the perfect spot to grab a few (too many) drinks and dance into the small hours.

Sometimes, it's the simple things that put a smile on our faces.

One of those simple things happens to be excellent photographs of little animals wearing teeny tiny jumpers.

My heart can't take the cuteness…

Can you even COPE with the little pug in his sweater? I can't…

That turtle has more style than Kim and Kanye combined.

Look at that tiny little grin!

Squad goals…

This little cutie is delighted with himself.

Absolutely goat-tastic!

This is all just too much.

 I'm not crying… you are!

You're welcome…

When we picture a weekend away to London, the images that spring to mind are fancy cocktail bars, edgy Shoreditch eateries and browsing Camden Market.

However, a mere 40 minutes outside the central city awaits one of the most magical experiences a fiction lover could have.

As a child and teenager, I grew up devouring the Harry Potter series as soon as each book came out (seriously, I was almost on the radio one year for being the first person in Ireland to finish the final book) and re-reading them sporadically until present day.

When the majesty and might of the wizarding world was projected on too the silver screen by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and co, to say the DVD box set of them we had became scratched up and over-watched would be an understatement.

The word enthralled couldn't appropriately describe my aura while watching those films – so once I realised in adulthood that there was a way to discover the technical logistics behind building the world of Harry Potter on screen, you best believe I was raring to go.

I added The Warner Bros Studio Tour London -The Making of Harry Potter to my bucket list for 2018, and by January 12, I had already ticked it off.

Accompanied by my soon-to-be 16-year-old sister, we made our way to London to celebrate her upcoming name day, we took the tube out of the city to Watford Junction, where a Knight Bus awaited to take us straight to the studio tour.

Thanks to all of our planning and pre-booking, the queing and collecting of our audio guides was quick and painless, as we stood astonished beneath the 20-foot Christmas tree that decorated the main entrance and gazed up at the turquoise Ford Anglia which had been used in the films as it suspended itself above our heads in the corner of the ceiling.

Once you arrive at the Studio Tour, you can stay for as long as you please, or at least until their 10pm closing time, but if you're in a rush, the tour can be completed in about two hours.

Immediately upon entry, you're greeted with a series of posters and book covers from Harry Potter the world over, before being shown a film featuring Harry, Ron and Hermione discussing how they really grew up on the set of Harry Potter, in the studio you're about to enter.

With a beckoning hand from Hermione, you're swept into the Great Hall and the tour can begin. Waiting with your tour group outside the huge double doors of the Great Hall – it was easy tp imagine yourself as a First Year at Hogwarts, about to be sorted into your House.

The Great Hall was decked out for Christmas during our visit, with the enter pieces and decorations from The Yule Ball scattered around the room. After a pyrotechnics display, and a look behind the magical special effects of the Hall itself (and some secrets about that enchanted ceiling that I wont give away) it was time to walk ourselves through the experience using the audio guide.

From the moving staircases to the Gryffindor dorm rooms, and from Dumbledore's office to Snape's potion dungeon, the tour was overwhelming in its enormity.

While the tour showcased hugely impressive props, like Hagrid's Hut, The Burrow and The Hogwarts Express, it also brought to the forefront the intense and creative work put into the films by the costume designers, set designers, builders, graphic designers and artists.

The studio collected all of the various elements of the wizarding world which were used in the films en masse, from the hundreds of painstaking and separately designed wizard hats used in the films, to the elaborate processes of making the wizarding creatures such as goblins, basalisks, house elves and Dementors through a mixture of green screens and good old fashioned sculpture. (seriously if you ever want to feel lazy, you have to see all of the hundreds of variations of goblin heads made by the designers).

A highlight of the tour would have to be the Forbidden Forest experience, which allowed you to wander through the forest itself, surrounded by spooky trees with trunks 10-foot wide, amidst the mist and lightning  and far too many of Aragog's family members for my liking.
As well as the Forbidden Forest, the chance to sample a famous Butter Beer from the The Three Broomsticks was too good to pass up.

While the queue for the Butter Beers was as long as the queue to get into the tour, it was worth it once we sipped the delicious, sweet substance.

There was an option to purchase memorabilia glass tankards, but seeing as we were flying home with just hand luggage, we had to opt for plastic cups.

The next stop on the tour was the lot, where all of the bigger props such as The Knight Bus, The Dursley's Home and the Hogwart's Bridge were kept.

A quick tour of The Dursley's revealed that they had preserved the scene in which Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's sitting room filled with Harry's Hogwarts letters.

From there we passed through Diagon Alley, with mechanical magic peeping through every doorway and window pane.

Like all epic commercialised experiences, there was a humongous gift shop at the end.

Most things were extremely expensive, with Harry Potter hoodies fetching up to £70.00, and Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans going for about a tenner (worth it when your sister gets the Earthworm flavoured one on the train home).

However, stationary and pins and badges were as affordable as £6.00, and there was a huge range of HP themed sweets to choose from without such an extortionate price tag.

All in all, I can only highly recommend it for any true fans of Harry Potter – just prepare to get a little nostalgic when you step through into the the wizarding world and a little teary eyed when it's time to step back out again.

Late last week, beloved Irish author Emma Hannigan shared news of her terminal diagnosis after an 11-year-long battle with cancer.

The 45-year-old mother-of-two discovered she carried the BRCA1 'breast cancer' gene in 2005, and decided to have her breasts and ovaries removed as a precautionary measure.

However, despite her efforts to stop the disease, Emma was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and has since fought the illness 10 times.

In an emotional post online, the author wrote: “The time I knew was borrowed must be given back soon, so it seems.”

"The conversation I never wanted to have has been said. My medical team have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at this fight but all avenues have now been exhausted."

Since sharing the news, book-lovers and fellow writers have come together to push Emma's new book Letters to my Daughter, to the number one spot.

Letters to my Daughter explores the complicated bonds between daughters, mothers and sisters, telling the story of the three Brady sisters who, having always been close to their grandmother May, struggle to cope with her sudden death.

Speaking about her latest release Emma said: “These characters were as real to me as all the others. They grew on me and some annoyed me at times, but as always, they were mine.”

Marian Keyes, Anna McPartlin and Lizzie Nugent are just some of the authors who have vowed to campaign to honour the 45-year-old.

Dubray Books is also donating profits from sales of the book to the Irish Cancer Society.

For many Irish women, Emma's book hold a special place in their hearts, so it only seems fitting that we honour her life as a woman, author and mother and make sure her legacy remains for generations to come.

Sisters: the best friends you don't choose but couldn't possibly live without.

Despite the fact they wreck our heads no end… the bond sisters share is not like anything in the world.

Yes, most of us have had our fair share of, ahem, ups and downs over the years – mainly clothes-related – but at the end of the day, we wouldn't know where we'd be without them.

1. She'll answer your calls no matter what time it is

Even though she knows you're not calling for any particular reason.

2. She's as open and honest as the day she was born

And will tell you when your new hairstyle makes you look like a 12-year-old boy.

3. She won't judge you for your really ugly Snapchats

You know the ones you send when you're checking the number of chins you can make yourself have…

4. She's the only one who actually gets your jokes

Because most of them are inside and directed at your family.

5. She'll always be able to sort you out with a dress for the 50 million weddings you are invited to each year

And she won't get (too) mad if you end up spilling a little red wine on it.

6. She'll treat your kids like her very own

And not be afraid to give out to them when they get a little unruly.

7. She always knows when something is wrong

And what exactly needs to be done to make it better.

Ireland is currently in the grips of a fight for reproductive rights and body autonomy.

Women in this country are forced to travel abroad or import illegal pills to procure abortions or reproductive health care.

Each person who has a termination has a reason for it – while the anti-choice side may pretend that women will utilise abortion access as a form of contraceptive, those who have had one know that this is a complete straw man argument.

An art exhibition is bringing these reasons to life, as they showcase the personal, and sometimes painful reasons women have gotten abortions.

My Body, My Life, is a travelling exhibit, using canvas and cloth as the vehicles for these stories.

Currently set exhibiting in London until March 5th, the exhibition has previously toured through Belfast and Edinburgh.

Along with the physical exhibition is a website, where you can read the experiences of women who have had a termination.

You can also submit your own story to the installation.

The poignant installation does not have another date or venue listed so far, so perhaps now would be a good time to tweet them and see if it would be possible to bring this relevant showcase to the Republic of Ireland.

Today, convicted murderer Graham Dwyer's legal team is taking action against the Irish State.

Dwyer was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Elaine O'Hara in 2015.

In what was one of the biggest trials in Irish history, it was heard that Dwyer stabbed O'Hara to death in Rathfarnam in 2012 for sexual pleasure.

A huge piece of evidence used in the trial were mobile phone records and correspondences between Dwyer and the victim.

These communications were used to establish a relationship between the two.

Metadata recorded also placed them both at the scene of the tragic crime.

Dwyer is suing the State for a breach of privacy over the use of these records.

His lawyers are due to argue that their use breached Dwyer's rights under the Constitution, the European Convention on Human Rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, according to RTE.

The outcome of this case may have an effect on his appeal against his conviction.

We will bring you more on this story as we have it.

OK, so at this point we all know the Irish rental market is far from perfect.

Online property searches are over-flowing with shared rooms, outrageous rents and cramped bedsits, and it doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon.

And while prices are continuing to soar all across the country, value for money can differ dramatically from county to county.

From Dublin to Longford, we've done some digging and discovered just what €600 per month can get you nowadays.

House Share, Seville Place, IFSC, Dublin 1 – €600 per month

In fairness, this place is an absolute palace compared to some of the bedsits dotted around the capital city – a separate space for eating and sleeping? Oh the luxury!

It's location alone was enough to grab our attention, and let's face it, for €600 you could do a lot worse.

The house is currently occupied by four "hard working Irish professionals, and judging by the random pineapple sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor we're guessing they're a bit of craic as well.

Four Bed House Ballinalee, Co. Longford – €600 per month

Where would you get it?

Four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a garden backing on to woodland – sounds like a dream.

Sure, Longford might may not have the same career opportunities as Dublin, but hey, if all us poor 20-something Dubliners make the move, the business will surely follow – who's with us?

One Bed Apartment, Mervue, Co. Galway – €600 per month

OK, we'll admit that this one bed flat looks like it's stuck in 1998, but its price and location are hard to fault.

With Galway City Centre just a 20 minute walk away, this cosy self-contained apartment is the perfect option for someone looking to strike a balance between urban and rural .

Apartment Share Lee Road, Cork City – €550 per month

Pink throws, emoji cushions and private parking – sounds like our kind of place!

It's big enough to make you feel like you have your own space, and cheap enough so you won't feel like you've been robbed blind.

Plus, it's got heaps of natural light, which, when you're used to your kitchen window facing onto an alleyway full of bins, is a real treat.

Two Bedroom Apartment, Limerick City – €550 per month

Yes, you read that right – not one, but two bedrooms, meaning you and a housemate could call this place home for just €275 each.

It's decor might leave a little bit to be desired, but that brand new bed and jaw-dropping price has us considering a move to The West.
