The countdown to Christmas is officially underway and we are more than ready to embrace the Christmas spirit.

As kids we adored opening our advent calendar and scoffing the mini piece of chocolate into our gobs before school. Nowadays, advent calendars are that little bit more glamorous.

Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard has announced she is leaving the soap. The actress played Liz McDonald for the past 30 years. 

She revealed to OK! Magazine that Liz will go out with a bang.

The actress said that it was a difficult decision to make but she knows it is the right one because she has landed a wonderful new role.

Beverley is set to go on tour with The Thunder Girls, a comedy show starring women over the age of 50.

Speaking of landing the role in The Thunder Girls, she said, "It made me realise how I was privileged to have the opportunity to do so when so many women my age no longer get the chance."

Beverley stressed that ageism in the industry is extremely frustrating, “Although I’ve had to leave the safety net of being in Coronation Street to do this, I’m hoping that ageist bosses, of which there are many, take note of how successful this show is and it starts the ball rolling on helping other women my age, get the roles they still deserve."

We’ll be sad to see Liz leave Coronation Street.

Malin Andersson has opened up about being a victim of domestic violence in a powerful open letter. The reality star shared a photo of her bruised face to help women in similar situations.

Malin explained that she kept quiet for such a long time because she felt trapped. She struggled to tell anyone about her situation,  “I lost myself completely. I wasn’t Malin, I was someone else. I was trapped. I thought I was ok. I thought that it was my fault. I kept going back because I thought I was in love. I thought this was all love. It’s not.”

She revealed the moment she knew she had to escape her abuser, “I woke up one day and decided to break the cycle. I knew enough was enough. James Blunt is coming to Ireland!

The singer is set to play one of his biggest Irish shows ever next summer and we can't wait to see him live.

James Blunt will play at the Iveagh Gardens on July 12, 2020. Tickets, €54.50 inclusive of booking fee, will go on sale Friday, November 25 at 9AM.

Blunt's classic 2004 debut album Back To Bedlam, has just been named as one of the top ten best-selling albums of that decade. His sixth studio album Once Upon A Mind, has reinforced his reputation for writing honest, emotional songs that people can easily relate to. 

His recent appearance on Graham Norton was notable on several levels. 

He performed a heartfelt rendition of Cold with a beautiful gospel choir, then joined a sofa that included Bruce Springsteen and Robert DeNiro, and proceeded to steal the show with his quick wit and charm.

Huge congratulations are in order for Brooklyn Nine Nine actress Melissa Fumero who is expecting her second child.

The actress shared a snap of her growing baby bump to confirm the news and she looks absolutely gorgeous.

Melissa explained that her second pregnancy has not been as easy as her first.

She added, “But yesterday I got a really intense massage, an awesome chiropractic adjustment, and my hair feels thicker… so I feel a little bit cute today. #herewegoagain #babyboynumerodos.”

A 13-year-old girl is in a critical condition after a machete attack in Co. Fermanagh. The PSNI have launched an attempted murder investigation.

It is understood that a group of men entered the home last night and attacked two of the occupants with machetes. The teenage girl and a 41-year-old woman were in the house at the time.

The 41-year-old  woman was stabbed in the leg but has since been released from the hospital. The teenager is in a stable but critical condition after she received multiple stab wounds.

There was also a baby in the house but they were uninjured.

The police were called to the house in Trasna Way, Lisnaskea at approximately 9.15pm last night.

Detective Sergeant Keith Monaghan stated, “This must have been a terrifying ordeal for those involved and we are determined to find the men responsible.”

He urged anyone with information to contact detectives in Enniskillen.

After what felt like a lifetime, The Crown finally returns to Netflix this weekend. Season three of the phenomenal drama series lands on Netflix on Sunday, November 17 and we’re in for a real treat this season.

The stellar cast are bound to win fans over and impress viewers with their portrayal of the Royal Family.

The third season of The Crown sees a new guard sweep into Downing Street, as Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family struggle to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing Britain. 

From cold-war paranoia, through to the jet-set and the space age – the exuberance of the 1960s and the long hangover of the 1970s – Elizabeth and the Royals must adapt to a new, more liberated, but also more turbulent world.

Season three storylines include the breakdown of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden’s marriage and the death Lord Mountbatten.

Prince Charles and Princess Anne will be more central characters this season with a significant focus on the future king’s love life, including the early days of his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles.

Christmas is our favourite time of the year, mainly because of the food, but also because of spending time with our nearest and dearest, the music, the decorations and again, the food.

We’ve already been daydreaming about the turkey sandwiches and selection boxes we’ll be scoffing on Stephen’s Day to help cure our festive hangovers.

Mr Kipling just unveiled their Christmas range and we’re adding them to the list of treats we must try over the holidays.

We are most excited for the festive French Fancies, which may be their best creation yet.

Mr Kipling will launch Irish Creme Fancies as part of their Christmas range and we’re already drooling at the thought of them.

Often dubbed the happiest place on planet earth, it's hardly surprising that one in 500 proposals take place inside the gates of the theme park. 

2. Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom, Florida

It looks like nothing cam stop the magic of Disney with one in 555 questions popped at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando.

3. Centennial Lakes Park, Minnesota

24 acres of stunning greenery located in the heart of the USA. A firm favourite for happy couples with one in 625 proposals taking place here. 

4. Eiffel Tower, Paris 

The city of love strikes again, with one in 679 couples getting engaged at one of Europe's most romantic locations. 

5.The Hollywood Sign, LA

Adding a bit of showbiz to the nuptials, one in every 1,000 proposals takes place in the Hollywood hills. 

6. Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge, New York

A double whammy for NYC with two of it's most iconic landmarks sharing the number six spot. One in 1,111 proposals respectively.

Without a doubt, one of the most stunning sights on planet earth, Niagra Falls acts as the backdrop for one in 1,250 proposals. 

8. Walt Disney's Epcot Park, Florida 

A third appearance for Disney, with Epcot playing host to one in 1,428 proposals. 

9. Big Bear Lake, California 

With chilled vibes and stunning views, it;s no wonder this picturesque location sees one on 1,666 take place here. 

10. Bondi Beach, Sydney

One in 2,000 proposals happen on the sandy shores of one of the world's most iconic beaches.
