Irish rugby legend Rob Kearney has been announced as the ‘Face of Christmas Jumper Day’ for CMRF Crumlin, to raise vital funds for CHI Crumlin and the National Children’s Research Centre. The CMRF Christmas Jumper Day will launch in schools and businesses across Ireland from November, and aims to raise €50,000 for some of Ireland’s sickest children.

Rob, who is a CMRF Crumlin ambassador, is encouraging teachers and students to set up a Christmas Jumper Day fundraiser in their school; and employees to set up a Christmas Jumper Day fundraiser in their companies, in aid of CMRF Crumlin.

“Christmas Jumper Day is a great way to support sick children in Crumlin hospital.” Rob Kearney said, “Over 150,000 children go through the doors of CHI Crumlin every year. CMRF has helped families in most communities across Ireland, so I’m proud to support this campaign. Hopefully I can encourage as many children, teachers and companies as possible to raise vital funds for sick children.

"Childhood illness takes too many precious moments of laughter, play and happiness. Christmas should be a special time for them no matter where they are. I’m calling on schools and companies across Ireland to join me, and host a Christmas Jumper Day in aid of CMRF, so that they can create some magical memories for sick children this Christmas.”

CMRF Crumlin is encouraging people taking part in Christmas Jumper Day to share photos on social media and to tag @cmrf_crumlin using the hashtags #ChristmasJumperDay and #WhateverItTakes.

Christmas Jumper Day packs can be sent out to schools and companies looking to participate in the nationwide fundraiser. Interested participants can email Sinead Nolan on christmasjumperday@cmrf.org to order their packs.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail, isn’t that right ladies? The Irish mammies leave NOTHING to chance. Come November there's no more messing around – the Christmas prep begins in earnest and God help anyone who gets in their way.

Have a look at our favourite memories when we were growing up.

1. The epic stockpile of selection boxes begins.

2. The even more epic stockpile of USA biscuits, Roses and Celebrations begins. God forbid you sit there on St. Stephen’s Day in front of the telly without a 5kg box each.

3. Four turkeys each the size of a twelve year old child are ordered ‘just in case’.

Image result for christmas turkey gif

4. A large ham is ordered, but not before she enters the local butcher’s Christmas raffle to win six more large hams.

5. Emergency presents are ordered in case unexpected guests pop round – think cheap cosmetic sets in mad colours no one would wear, bath salts and a few board games from the pound shop like Ludo and Backgammon. Oh, there will be no catching her out!

6. The Christmas saving plan money is collected with glee. The town better brace itself because the Irish mammy let loose with her Christmas money is a terrifying thing. If you get an elbow out of the way when you’re reaching for the last toy on the shelf, you’ll know who it was.

7. All those things she put a deposit on during the year are finally getting paid off and collected.

8. The whole house is turned upside down for at least a week to get it ‘ready for the Christmas’. The guest rooms will be given special attention – beds will be covered with new sheets and quilts and the heating will be turned on each night to ‘take the damp out of the air’.

9. The baking begins – a few Christmas puddings, the all-important Christmas cake that no one except your great-uncle Pajo ever eats, and of course a stockpile of homemade mincemeat.

10. She will tell you that when she was younger she only got an orange and a few nuts for Christmas at least 3467 times, because you never heard that one before, right?

We LOVE these memories of growing up in Ireland in the lead-up to Christmas. Serious case of the warm and fuzzies when we think about them! Do you remember any of these gems?

Celebrities got into the spooky spirit last night and we were bowled over by some of their costumes. Obviously, Hollywood actors and Grammy winners have plenty of cash to splash out on a costume. Unlike us normal folk who have to settle for a €2 pair of cat ears.

Their Halloween costumes are out of this world. Adele always gets it right and her 2019 costume is one of our favourites by far.

Adele is the queen of Halloween. The Set Fire To The Rain singer has dressed up as the legendary George Michael, Dolly Parton, June Carter Cash, Rose from Titanic and even Stanley Ipkiss from The Mask in previous years.

The expectations were high for this year’s costume but the singer didn’t disappoint.

Adele dressed up as one of the most iconic Disney villains this year and we’re obsessed with her costume.

Happy Halloween, witches!

Gone are the days when we rambled around our neighbourhood, dressed in a black bin bag with bags full of sweets, the smell of fireworks in air and mini witches and wizards on the hunt for more toffee apples.

Today we just hand out overpriced chocolate (that we’d rather eat ourselves) as trick or treaters grin at us in way fancier costumes.

It’s October, witches!

Halloween is here so this calls for late-night horror films and endless bags of buttered popcorn, and we have got you covered.

Here are 10 Halloween movies you NEED to binge on tonight:

1. Hocus Pocus

If you haven’t seen this Halloween classic, then did you even have a childhood? This is a must-see and annual tradition for most. Three witches, family ties, spells gone wrong – this film is the perfect thing to put on for a throwback, girls’ night.

Plus, in honour of its 25th anniversary, AMC theatres will be showing it from October 26th-31st. So you and your friends can dress up and see it on the big screen.

2. The Addams Family

I’ve never found such a strange family so relatable to my own. But the dark and twisted humour in this iconic film will have you in bits, as you find yourself comparing the character's outlandish antics to your own sibling relationships.

Tip: Wednesday is a super easy, last-minute costume to throw together if you are in a jam.

3. The Strangers

This film is for those looking for a proper scare. As one of the most realistic frightening movies I’ve seen, this haunted getaway is one you will need to recover from afterwards. Masked strangers, brutal torture, and a terrifying escape attempt will keep you on the edge of your seat.

There is nothing scarier than happy masks.

4. Practical Magic

For something more light-hearted, Practical Magic is a romantic comedy that follows the lives of two sisters, both witches, as they discover romance and cover up a mysterious death. Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, it explores just how powerful magic can be.

It’s a great sister film. Even though the two girls are so different, they will always have each others’ backs.

5. Disturbia

This Teen Choice Award winner will shatter any trust you have in your neighbours. Shia LaBeouf is the boy next door in the psychological thriller. After seeing his neighbour exhibiting odd behaviour, he becomes convinced that he’s a serial killer.

But is he right? And is this mystery too dangerous to solve?

6. The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Tim Curry kills it as a cross-dressing scientist in this absurd and brilliant musical. An innocent couple stumble upon his mansion in a storm where they’re exposed to crazy characters that will have you singing along the entire way.

Warning: This movie is one of my favourites of all time, and it will become your new obsession.

7. Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton has done it again with this animated, disturbing classic. Creepy and inventive, the film unlocks an entire underworld and charts its interaction with our own. The Halloween-Christmas crossover is the perfect compromise for fans of both holidays.

The Disney musical is so catchy, you won’t be able to get the film’s tunes out of your head.

8. The Conjuring

This terrifying thriller explores the supernatural realm and just how threatening it can be. In the 1970s, paranormal investigators are summoned to an excluded farmhouse to see if there is an explanation for recent and strange occurrences.

Bordering different dimensions, they invite demons to tell their stories and leave the family they're haunting alone.

9. Halloweentown

A little girl’s dream comes true when she discovers she is a witch on her thirteenth birthday. She loves her grandma’s town – full of all kinds of Halloween characters. But in this Harry Potter-esque adventure, she must find a way to save the muggle world.

The film was a childhood classic and will give you all the feels.

10. Get Out

Saving the best for last, this thrilling mystery has won many awards including the Academy Award for best screenplay and was given 99 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, an unexpected turns await around the next corner in this wild film.

Get Out explores the depths of racism in society in a sick and twisted fashion.

So, make sure to give our top scary picks a watch to get into the Halloween spirit and have a witchin’ weekend.

With Halloween just around the corner and bonfires, fireworks and more all something our dogs have to deal with, Chris Hanlon of Werewolf Food has provided his top tips for keeping your dog happy and safe.

He says, “Halloween anxiety in dogs in a very real scenario and although you’ll know when your dog is scared, unhappy or nervous, knowing how to handle it in the moment, or avoid it altogether is key. Every element of the day from the food to the fireworks needs to be considered but planning a little ahead should make for a relaxing evening.”

  • Walk

Chris says: “Bringing your dog for a longer walk than usual early in the evening or late in the afternoon, before much of the madness ensues, will help to relax them as much as possible and hopefully mean they are a little bit less angsty if the evening turns out be full of loud noises and have lots of visitors. As we know, the fireworks and noises can be unexpected so it’s worthwhile keeping your dog on its lead throughout.”

  • Hide the sweet treats

Chris explains, “The next obvious risk to dogs on Halloween night is the sweet treats left for trick-or-treaters. These need to be kept out of reach of your furry friend. We all know our dogs will sniff out every human treat they are not supposed to have and get up to all kinds of mischief in the kitchen when we’re not looking so it’s worthwhile being extra careful and leaving treats in high cupboards or locked away in between trick-or-treater visits. Monkey nut shells can be a choking risk while chocolate and other sweet treats can be poisonous to dogs and cause tummy upset so stick to the dog-friendly treats to include your dog in the fun.”

  • Dangerous décor

As with the sweet treats, Chris reminds us that dangerous decorations can be a risk too. He says, “The number one risk is lit pumpkins. We all know our dogs are curious and as they aren’t used to inviting lit pumpkins, keep them out of paws reach. Overall, my advice would be not to overdo it – the more the house appears to be unfamiliar, especially with scary statues and hangers, the more your dog will get riled up. Bear in mind too that by wearing a mask, your dog no longer recognises you and your family members so perhaps pop it on out of their sight.”

  • Stay with them

Chris explains, “It might seem like the practical option to keep your dog away from the noise in the quietest part of the house but we can underestimate just how scary fireworks, spooky costumes and consistent unexpected visitors can be to dogs so I suggest keeping them close, giving them their favourite toys to keep them as distracted as possible and comforting them with affection as they need it. A handy trick is to turn on music or the TV to try and drown out external noise as much as possible.”

  • Ask a friend

Chris advises not leaving things to chance. He says, “If you have a gut feeling that your dog isn’t going to react well, it might be worthwhile asking a friend in a quieter area if you can pop round for the busy times or even asking them to dog sit. You can also consider a boarding kennels in a rural area that you rate so you can have some peace of mind.”

Husband and wife Christopher and Bridgeen Hanlon, are the duo behind subscription-based dog food company, Werewolf Food. That’s right, you can now have your dog’s food delivered right to your door on a rolling basis as your dog needs it. Werewolf Food, founded in January, has tapped into our growing love for the convenience of subscriptions just like Glossybox, Hello Fresh and Bloom and Wild.

As an adult, Halloween is a pretty good excuse to make a holy show of yourself and get away with it, but as a kid, Halloween was life's saving grace between summer and Christmas.

Just when you thought you were going to burst with the boredom of the new school year, Halloween reared its head, and suddenly life was worth living again.

Black bin liners were unrolled, spiders with pipe cleaner legs were hung up, and your mam began ranting about the dangers of bangers for the guts of a month.

And once the big night rolled around, we all went through the same nine stages with military precision.

1. The parents' rules

Your parents will have laid a few ground rules when it came to sticking with your siblings while roaming the estate, but God love them if they thought you were listening.

"I'll keep an eye… but I can't promise anything, Mam."

2. The real rules

Once far enough from your driveway, you and your siblings immediately split up for fear of being seen with each other.

"Go on! You'll be grand, just don't go near that house with the broken gate. I heard your man hasn't left it in 54 years."

3. The costume

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but wandering the estate in nothing more than a bin liner over your vest and pants was your mother's biggest parenting fail.

"Can you see my knickers? They've puppies on them."

4. The explanation for your costume

No matter how much effort your mother put into that bad boy, you were still forced to tell every neighbour what you were.

"I'm a mutant from Outer… oh whatever, I'm a binliner."

5. The estates you weren’t allowed to visit

If the sibling rule was important, the 'not going further than your own estate' was an absolute deal breaker.

"If I hear you went further than the front green, there'll be absolute war, do you hear me?"

6. The neighbours who gave good stuff

Every year you made a beeline for the house that gave out full size chocolate bars, cans of Coke and share-size crisps.

"Ring again. She's only pretending she can't hear us."

7. The neighbours who gave apples

Every year you knocked in because you thought they might have come to their senses this time around.

"Ah Jaysus, seven monkey nuts?! I'm putting them back through her letterbox."

8. The bold kids

If you thought you were pretty schlick for going past the green, you had nothing on these kids who didn't even bother to dress up and waited for eejits like you to show up so they could banger the bejaysus out of you.

"Pretend you haven't seen them, but don't turn your back. That's right, let's all reverse up the road,"

9. The triumphant return for the second bag

The years you have to return to your own home for a second carrier bag such was the extent of your haul is one for the memory books.

"Only the first two roads, Mam. Better give me a few if this keeps up… no, I'm not done!"
