Whether it's James Kavanagh spritzing himself as he strolls around town, or featuring in a beauty blogger's latest beauty haul, rosewater is having a moment when it comes to our skincare routines.

Rosewater is nothing new – in fact, it has been used as part of ancient beauty routines in the Middle East and Egypt since people began taking note of their appearances.

Cleopatra was known to enjoy a rose water bath, complete with rose petals floating on the surface, while 10th Century Persian women used it to hydrate their faces.

Both of these indulgent uses are still very much how we see the element being utilised today – with skincare experts and anecdotal evidence alike proving that the ingredient is as efficient as ever.

Rose water was originally a by product of the production of rose oil, and the clue is in the name, it is simply a blend of rose flowers and fresh water – but what exactly is it good for?

It's pretty much the perfect natural all-rounder – the water helps soothe your skin, tone it, and keep your skin hydrated.

It can also help maintain your skin's slightly acidic PH balance for your skin, as the PH of rose water is 5.,5, which can help deter the growth of bacteria and keep spots at bay.

It has anti-oxidant properties, keeping your skin tone even, and despite the pink hue of roses, it can actually help reduce inflammation in the skin and calm down redness.

With regular use, it can keep excess oil off the skin, while boosting hydration for a dewy, clear glow.

Many companies which produce rose water have incorporated other skin-loving ingredients into the mix, such as glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid and aloe vera to give extra benefits.

Many makeup gurus also call on the sprays to set their makeup for a glossy finish.

Fancy trying it for yourself? Most rose waters are very affordable, and remember, the less ingredients listed, the better.

Skin & Tonic Rose Mist €22.50

Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist €16.25

Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin €6.58

Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist with Rose Water and Green Tea €13.38

The sunny weather has finally made an appearance and we can’t help but daydream about summer adventures. Spending the summer in New York sounds perfect, but unfortunately, our bank accounts are stopping that dream from coming true.

Luckily, there are plenty of places to visit around the Emerald Isle that are perfect if you’re in need of some time away from reality.

There's one place you must visit this summer and it’s the charming town of Clonakilty, Co.Cork. The West Cork town is one of the nicest parts of the county with the stunning Inchydoney Beach, snug pubs, plenty of dinky cafes and dozens of historical sites including Michael Collins House.

Once you arrive in the colourful and vibrant town you’ll never want to leave. The locals and their cheery disposition will make you feel like you’ve lived there your entire life.

There are plenty of hidden gems in Clonakilty that will make your trip all the more memorable.

1: Cafe On The Lane

This quirky spot is hidden down Spillers Lane, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets. The cafe is covered in bunting and fairy lights, with fresh flowers donning every table. The main seating area is full of mismatched, vintage furniture that adds to the character of the place. Treat yourself to a croissant or a brownie and a cup of coffee and listen to Elvis play on the cafe's record player.

2: Cycle around Clon

Clonakilty is the first rural community to offer a bike rental scheme. There’s no better way to see the glorious town than cycling around Clonakilty, especially when the sun is shining. The Clonakilty Bike Scheme even shares advice on how to cycle safely on West Cork roads. Cycle out to Long Strand, which is only 20 minutes away from the town. Take in the breathtaking scenes and breathe in that fresh sea air.

3: Pints in Scannells

This gastropub is the heart of the town, known as the small pub with the big garden, you just have to visit Scannells for a quick pint and a bite to eat. You’ll struggle to leave the pub with the infectious atmosphere and assortment of live music, from jazz to trad, Scannells has something for everyone.

4: A bookworm’s paradise

The Children’s Project charity shop may just look like every other charity shop, but once you go upstairs you’ll be greeted by mountains and mountains of books. The second floor of the shop is a bookworm's idea of heaven. They have shelves full of best-sellers, horror tales, young adult novels, well-loved classics, popular chick-lit books more. You’ll go in for a quick browse and end up leaving the shop hours later with bags full of books.

Clonakilty is the perfect place to visit if you need to escape to the country, especially when the sun is shining!

Scarlett Moffatt is urging fans to get their smear tests done after she received abnormal results. The reality star stressed that doctors are currently running tests as a precaution, but stressed that it is best to go, sooner rather than later.

Taking to Instagram stories, Scarlett urged her female followers to book their appointments, even if they’re nervous.

Smear tests are never as bad as they seem and it only takes mere minutes.

She said, “I went for the smear, something came back. They detected something… Lots of people have to go for biopsies and again I worked myself up about it, but I still went.

“It was four minutes of discomfort for something that's a little bit uncomfortable, but I went because it could save my life,” she added.

Scarlett spoke about the importance of early detection, “The sooner they pick it up, it's easier to manage, I get my results back in a couple of days.

"But it is so important. Imagine if I kept leaving it and leaving it,” Scarlett commented.

Do you know what your first memory is?

I know mine was on my parents wedding day – I'm being lifted off a white bench outside by someone  and I can see my little white sandals on my feet as I look down at them. That's it. A three-second lightning-quick snapshot. I was a few weeks away from my second birthday.

I can still see my shoes as I get picked up off the bench – but did it ever actually happen?

A study in the journal Psychological Science says that more than likely it's a fabrication. Spooky, right?

Researchers from the UK asked more than 6,600 people about their first childhood memory.

According to Science Alert, they found that 2,500 of participants – almost 40 percent – said that they had formed memories before the age of two-years-old. More than 890 of those people said that their their first memory takes place before they turned one.

The scientists now say though that those memories are completely imagined…they're not real memories.

So why are we convinced that they are?

The study explained that our brains seem to be simply incapable of retaining information from before the age of three.

However, the thing is, the scientists found that people's memories were age-appropriate.

This means that they're not memories that got muddled in time because they mention prams, cribs or wanting to communicate before knowing how to talk.

Now this is the interesting bit.

The research suggests that these recollections are actually being pieced together from photographs people have seen and stories they may have been told etc.

"We suggest that what a rememberer has in mind when recalling fictional improbably early memories is an episodic-memory-like mental representation consisting of remembered fragments of early experience and some facts or knowledge about their own infancy/childhood," explained psychologist Shazia Akhtar.

So do you think that you've created events in your mind that never took place?

We all know that memory isn't the most reliable of things and this study certainly gives weight to that.

Fans were quick to identify the former EastEnders actor in the snap.

According to The Sun, Joe is eager to take on a new challenge after leaving I’m A Celebrity earlier this year.

A source said, “Joe's currently talking to Dancing On Ice bosses. It's no secret ITV love him and are keen to see him on the ice.

"He's looking for a new challenge after I'm A Celeb and he's sure to prove popular with viewers,” they added.

Joe decided to leave his presenting role on the popular show after partner Stacey gave birth to their baby boy Rex.

"I just couldn't be away from Rex for three months. I love the job. Honestly, it's like a part of me. I come out of EastEnders, and it's very difficult to be an actor coming out of it, and the jungle sort of opened up a whole world of opportunities with presenting and stuff like that.

"I owe the jungle everything and I'm so happy and pleased that the jungle stood by me for so long. But it will go on and it'll be amazing, it'll be really weird to watch it in England. I haven't spent a November in England for nearly 11 years. So it's going to be weird, but it'll be so nice to be around the family,” he explained.

Other rumoured celebrities include Love Island’s Amber Gill, Michelle Heaton and TV personality Michael Barrymore.

Love Island’s Greg O’ Shea is a single man after (reportedly) dumping Amber Gill via text earlier this month. The Irishman quickly went from being heralded as the nation’s hero to being called a snake, but the backlash hasn’t stopped him.

He recently joined RTÉ at the National Ploughing Championships to chat about life after Love Island and even shared his dating advice with the public.

Greg stressed that meeting someone in person is far better than searching for love online. He encouraged the public to go back to traditional dating methods, like walking up to someone at a bar or asking someone for their number in a coffee shop.

We can’t imagine many people will turn to Greg for dating advice, especially after how he played a game and mistreated queen Amber.
