5 must-read free eBooks in 2021
Let’s be honest for many of us book lovers, this quarantine wasn’t so bad after all. There were so many books that we always dreamed of reading but never got the chance to until we were stuck at home with not a lot to do. Speaking for myself, I finally got to turn to my ever-growing list of books to read, and boy was I glad that happened! If you’re late to the party, don’t panic. We have a list for you, and also you can read free books here.
Listed below are our top 5 recommendations. This is a fairly well-rounded list, so there’s a little something for everyone. Have a look.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
If I had to choose one book to speak on for hours, that would easily be Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. Yes, this book is a classic and yes, many people have very strong opinions about it, but that has mostly to do with its raw and unapologetic depiction of how monstrous humans can be. The author didn’t make the characters very likeable (though it’s fine if you do end up liking a few), but instead the characters were made to be understood. With several radio and television adaptations, this book is the perfect combination of romance, drama and tragedy set in the wilderness.
The Prophet By Kahlil Gibran
Kahlil Gibran’s books need no introduction, but when a book has been translated into more than 100 languages and has sold over 9 million copies in the US alone, you know the book’s bound to be good. Featuring 26 prose poetry fables, whether you’re into spiritualism or not, The Prophet is a work encapsulating pure beauty that anyone can bask in and admire. Joy and sorrow, life and death, good and evil, crime and punishment, love, giving, houses, prayer, and pleasure are some of the themes this book touches on in its chapters which have left so many readers feeling vulnerable, awe-inspired, motivated and even devastated (in a good way), contemplating life and the tiniest actions which make us human.
Kiss of Tragedy By Stephanie Van Orman
If discovering indie gems is your thing, if the forbidden love trope drives you insane (a lot of us are guilty), if you love reading literature featuring the occult, vampires, darkness and twists on the Greek mythology; then ladies and gentlemen, we present to you Kiss of Tragedy. This dark romance with a modern-day twist on Greek mythology tells the story of Juliet Hudson, an eighteen-year-old college freshman who looks like flowers in spring but harbours a deep love for the dark and occult. When she badly falls in love with Seth, a mysterious yet exceptionally handsome man from the occult club she joins, Juliet finds out that a brief union of her lips with Seth’s can throw her into a world where romance, violence and destruction are really the same. Kiss of Tragedy, the perfect cocktail of mystery, love, humour and twists, is a book you’re sure to absolutely devour.
Setbacks, Getbacks & The Paybacks by Rajesh Kalan
An incredible self-help book if you are lacking motivation and want to do something with your life. Setbacks, Getbacks & The Paybacks, serve as a guide to help you overcome obstacles and understand that you can achieve anything with willpower. This book is surely recommended for anyone who wants to adopt a positive mindset or get back on the right track after a major setback.
Animal Farm by George Orwell
This outstanding allegorical tale is a quick and must-read for all book lovers — one can easily finish this masterpiece in one sitting. The story is powerful and exciting and reflects the events which led up to the Russian Revolution (1917) and the Stalinist era. Don’t worry if you’re not particularly fond of politics and political theories because most of the main characters of this classic book are quite literally animals, so you’ll never find this book bland or boring even if you don’t have a deep understanding of revolutions or political ideologies. If anything, you might develop some understanding and very likely a deep admiration for this pure classic.
Here it is, a list of some of the books we know you’re sure to love. These will serve as a great starting point and keep you company when everything else just seems boring. Books really are the best friend who always has something interesting to say.
