Amanda Abbington breaks silence after quitting Strictly Come Dancing
Amanda Abbington has broken her silence after quitting Strictly Come Dancing.
The news that the Sherlock actress would not be returning to the competition was revealed last night during It Takes Two after Amanda didn’t perform on the show over the weekend.
After Strictly confirmed that Amanda had left the show, she has now spoken out for the first time and admitted she made the decision to leave with ‘deepest regret’.
Heading to Instagram, Abbington shared a snap of her high heels to her 134K followers and explained, “It is with deepest regret that I had to leave Strictly. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue”.
“It was an absolute joy working with my fellow contestants, they are a beautiful, hardworking and talented group of people who I love and who I will miss seeing every Friday and Saturday and competing alongside”.
“I want to thank the incredible Production team and everyone on Strictly who looked after me and who are so kind and caring. It’s a wonderful bunch of people and I’ll miss all of them”.
The Mr Selfridge star closed off by saying, “I’m so sad that I am unable to go any further. Thank you to everyone who voted and who sent wonderful messages and inspiring support. You are all amazing. Truly. Thank you”.
Many fans and famous faces shared supportive messages to Amanda in the comments of her announcement.
Presenter Claudia Winkleman wrote, “We love you”. “We will miss you”, penned professional dancer Gorka Marquez. Pro Strictly dancer Nancy Xu added “sending you all the love”.
Earlier this morning, Amanda’s dance partner Giovanni Pernice shared a tribute to her that reads, “Amanda.. I am so sad we can’t continue but I am proud of what we achieved and I am sending you so much love @amanda_abbington74 @bbcstrictly”.
Fleur East confirmed that Abbington would be leaving the show during last night’s episode of It Takes Two when she read a statement from Strictly Come Dancing.
The host explained, “Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wishes her all the best for the future”.
