‘A kind and delicate Irish flower…’ Jim Carrey’s heartfelt statement

Fans of Jim Carrey have been taking to social media this evening to express their shock at the passing of his girlfriend, Cathriona White.

The 28-year-old Tipperary-native had moved to Hollywood in 2009 to work as a make-up artist and had met the high-profile actor on a movie set in 2012.

Sadly, reports from the US this afternoon say that Ms White has taken her own life.

According to TMZ, she was found dead by friends last night and it has been furthermore reported that she had left a suicide note addressed to Mr Carrey.

Now, in a heartfelt statement, Jim has responded to the tragedy.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” he said.

“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”

The 53-year-old added: “My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her.

“We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Just a week ago, the talented make-up artist had dined at Malibu's upmarket Nobu restaurant.

Ms White also recently travelled to Canada – taking to Instagram to thank the Irish consulate in San Franciso for renewing her passport promptly. And earlier this year, she had shared a snap of her proudly wearing her Tipperary hurling jersey around LA.

Her most recent post was from just five days ago when she uploaded a wind-swept black-and-white snap for her 7,500 followers.

Underneath the image, people have this evening been leaving their condolences.

"Sweet Dreams @littleirishcat may flights of angels sing you to your rest xxx shocked," one sympathiser wrote.

Another said, "RIP young lady. May you find peace at last."

Meanwhile a third person stated: "At dheis Dé go bhfuil a anam. Had the pleasure of playing football with Caitríona, she was a loyal, kind and caring girl.

"Her heart was always in the right place. So sorry to hear of her loss my sympathies to all family and friends xx Rest in peace a stór."
