An Antrim man tried to be Nicki Minaj and now he’s facing jail time
Stephen Brown, 24, from Cairn Walk, Co. Antrim was given four months in jail this week for breaching an Anti-Social Behaviour Order.
He repeatedly called the emergency services without having any need of them, and when questioned insisted he was Nicki Minaj.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Stephen made two calls within five minutes of each other to the emergency services on Christmas Day of last year.
During the first call he claimed that two men were making threats to kill him. However, Stephen, a “chronic alcoholic” and “his own worst enemy”, was not able to provide more information as he was too drunk.
It was when he made the second phone call that Stephen claimed he was Nicki Minaj.
“A prosecutor said he rang again saying he wanted to cancel the first call and during the second call he also claimed to be US popstar Nicki Minaj and said there was a poltergeist in his house.”
He had already gotten himself in trouble making non-emergency calls and he was ordered not to all again without a genuine emergency. He was also not supposed to be in possession of alcohol.
The judge pointed out that police resources were already being stretched and by sending out a car when something serious could be occurring elsewhere would be irresponsible.
His defence barrister Aaron Thompson said that his defendant is a “nuisance” but he also needs help.
