1. Zinc
Zinc works in a similar way to Vitamin C, only it's not quite as effective. Lozenges are a great way to get your zinc in your system, which may help to shorten the length of your cold.
2. Eucalyptus oil
Eucalyptus oil is basically nature's Vicks rub, only way better. To help clear congestion, spread some of the into a tissue, and hold it up to your mouth and nose and inhale several times per day.
3. Ginger
Ginger contains a compound is called gingerol, which gives it it's spicy taste. This property will help to reduce inflammation around sinus cavity, which is a real blessing.
4. Water
It goes without saying, water is your BEST FRIEND when sick. It is easy to become dehydrated when you're feeling under the weather, but this will make you feel far worse.
5. Vitamin C
Vitamin C will be your saving grace this winter. It won’t prevent a cold, but experts say that it will shorten the length of an existing one. Sounds good to us!
6. Probiotics
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that keep your stomach healthy and strong, and therefore boosting your immune system. Try eating some live yoghurt, or taking supplements.
7. Sleep
Web MD says that the most effective way to combat a cold or flu is to rest, as it helps your body to fight the illness. They also recommend staying warm while you rest, so grab the hot water bottle and relax.
