MP in Australia proposes in Parliament following same-sex vote
"This debate has been the soundtrack to our relationship," so said Australian MP, Tim Wilson, while addressing his partner, Ryan Bolger, in the Australian House of Representative today.
Referring to the same-sex marriage debate which had been been raging in Australia prior to the country's vote to legalise it last month, Wilson was present to contribute to legislation, and used his platform to ask one very significant question.
Visibly emotional. Wilson reflected on their journey together – both personally and professionally – before proposing to his partner.
"In my first speech I defined our bond by the ring that sits on both of our left hands. They are the answer to the question we cannot ask," Wilson said.
"So there’s only one thing left to do; Ryan Patrick Bolger, will you marry me?”
Ladies, prepare yourselves for this one.
