BREAKING: The Luas Red Line will not be operating until tomorrow

According to emerging reports from AA Ireland, service on the Luas Red Line was disrupted this afternoon, and will be unable to serve the public for the rest of the day.

"There are no Luas Red Line services running between Red Cow and Tallaght/Saggart due to a fault with overhead cables at Belgard. The service is not expected to return today," read their latest update.

Reminding the public of alternative routes, they added: "Dublin Bus will accept valid Luas tickets and buses will also serve this section of the Red Line."

Dublin Fire Brigade took to Twitter this afternoon to highlight the incident which led to the disruption in service.

Sharing a photo from the scene, Dublin Fire Brigade wrote: "We’re clear now from a incident on the Belgard Rd involving @LUAS overhead lines (750volts) struck by a vehicle, leaving the wires hanging."

The tram operators also confirmed the disruption on their site, writing: "Please be advised there is no service between Red Cow, Tallaght and Saggart as a truck crashed into the overhead cables, leaving this section of the line with no power."

"Services between Red Cow and Saggart/Tallaght are not expected to return before end of schedule this evening at 00.30am. Please allow extra time to travel especially as we come into Peak Traffic this evening. We hope that a full service will be restored by first service tomorrow morning at 5.30am."

The public has been advised that the Green Line is operating normally.
