Chanel are selling a boomerang for €1,260 and people aren’t happy
Fashion giant Chanel are facing heavy criticism after it was revealed that a €1,260 boomerang is being sold as part of the brand's SS17 collection.
The 'luxury sporting accessory' has sparked huge online backlash with some Twitter users labelling the item as insensitive towards indigenous Australian culture.
On Monday, US makeup artist, Jeffree Star displayed the boomerang on various social media outlets, with the message: “Having so much fun with my new @Chanel boomerang.”

The images ignited a huge online debate and users were quick to accuse Chanel of cultural appropriation.
According to The Guardian, one person wrote: “[it] humiliates a whole culture”.
“I am from Australia and I am offended that a company would make a joke out of something that was used as a weapon for survival.”
Anyone who isn't from Australia & is saying that the boomerang @Chanel is selling is fine don't know anything about it or Aboriginal Culture

At A$1,930, the Chanel boomerang costs nearly 10% of the average income of Indigenous Australians https://t.co/l4ICYkR4JU

Chanel made a $2000 boomerang? Frank Ocean didn't croon on a great song for the company to be so stupid

Speaking to The Guardian, a Chanel representative said the company was “extremely committed to respecting all cultures, and regrets that some may have felt offended.”
Other outrageously overpriced items featuring in the SS17 collection include, a set of three tennis balls (€514), a racket (€2003) and a set of beach paddles and balls (€4386).
Absolute NOTIONS!
