Concern mounts following Galway fisherman’s disappearance

by

The severe weather has hampered a search for a fisherman in Co Galway who has been missing since yesterday afternoon.

The search mission for the Galway native was postponed at approximately 3am this morning, but resumed shortly after 8am today.

It is understood that he left Galway docks at 3pm yesterday in order to tend to lobster pots, but after failing to return to shore, the alarm was raised at 9.30pm.

Lifeboat crews from Galway and the Aran Islands along with local fisherman are taking part in the search.

Commenting on the search mission, Harbour Master Capt. Brian Sheridan, said: "The vessel was found near Silverstrand and was taken into Galway."

"The search resumed at 8.20am this morning, the helicopter is flying over the bay and the Aran Lifeboat, the Galway Lifeboat and the inshore fishing fleet are out searching."
