Confirmed: The Croke Park area is about to get MAJORLY jazzed up
Some big changes are coming to Croke Park soon.
In a joint development between Croke Park Stadium and Dublin City Council, Croke Villas flats are about to be no more.
The project, will see the flats (which are mostly boarded up) being demolished, then done up again, as well as a processional boulevard for the sports stadium.
The boulevard will be the only match-day entrance for sports fans, which will take away much of the chaos that surrounds Croke Park when there's a game on.
The project which will cost €12m, will not only involve the demolition and redevelopment of the apartment complex, but also Sackville Avenue widening, the construction of new homes across from the apartment complex, and also refurbishing seven new houses on the Ballybough Road.
According to 98fm, a resident from the Croke Villa flats said she's hoping to move into one of the new houses.
"For starters, it would be like winning the Lotto. We're all waiting to go and we've been told for the last 8 years that we're going.
"Anything has to be better than what's here."
The construction is said to begin in the next few months.
