Couples Trips: Tips for a Dreamy First Vacation Together

There’s a huge sense of excitement and anticipation that comes with planning a vacation with your partner for the first time. Everything is new and switching off from the real world will give you both an opportunity to fully relax and enjoy each other’s company. So, what’s not to love? As this will be your first vacation together, it’s important to give the planning stage some extra consideration. The following are some tips for a dreamy first vacation together.

Choosing the Destination

Do you enjoy being boring with your partner and are you looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway? Do you want to stay in a romantic setting that’s geared towards couple vacations? Or would you prefer an adventure filled itinerary? Or what about clubbing? It’s important to discuss what kind of trip you’d both like and, if your visions don’t align, try to come to a middle ground. Maybe you could split the time between different hotels and areas to cater for both of your interests? Choosing the destination is the number one thing to get right so choose wisely.

Planning the Details

Now that you’ve picked where you’re going to go, it’s time to get to the finer details. How long are you going to go for? What type of accommodation are you going to book? What activities are you going to do? You want to keep stress levels low so it’s always best to book things like transfers before you leave home. Look to travel insurance and chat to your partner about getting coverage for him/her too.

Think about money. Do you have enough to cover your expenses and living costs? Do you need to take out a personal loan to give you the funds you need to book big purchases like plan tickets or helicopter rides? It might be a good idea to get a kitty going where you both put in a specific amount of money to cover things like food and activities. Research your destination’s entry requirements for foreign nationals and apply for the relevant paperwork. Being turned away at the border due to a lack of documents would not be the best start to a romantic getaway.

If you can’t afford a splurge on a helicopter ride, then search locally in the city that you are visiting, to see if there is something special you can do that won’t break the bank.  For example, in New York, to see the city from (literally) the top, then Manhattan’s newest skyscraper: The Edge (tickets here) is the place to go.

What to Pack

The advice here is to pack lightly if possible. This shouldn’t be a problem if you followed step two properly. You should know exactly what’s happening and where you’ll be spending your time. You’ll know if you need more dressy or casual clothes and you’ll know what kind of accessories you need for the activities you’ve planned. It’s always a good idea to pack clothes that can mix and match easily. This will give you more outfit options, and you won’t have to bring as many items. You may also want to bring along a small first-aid kit in case of emergencies. Your partner will appreciate you coming to the rescue should something go wrong.

Be Yourself

You might feel a little anxious about letting your guard down and spending a lot of time in someone else’s company. That’s only normal and it can be easy to maintain this perfect persona in a bid to try and make the best first impression. Our advice is don’t overdo it. Yes, it’s ok to be on your best behavior but it’s important to relax and be yourself. Express yourself, let go of negativity, be present, and take each day as it comes.
