Creative of the Year: Mike Gibson is living proof that hard work pays off
Mike Gibson was crowned ‘Creative of the Year’ at the inaugural SHEmazing HP Awards last week, and if you haven’t checked out his work by now, you are seriously missing out.
The self-taught illustrator has built an impressive online following over the past few years – and it’s not hard to see why.
Fan of Mike’s work?
Well, you’re in good company. Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Meghan Trainor and Jessy J are just some of the stars that have recognised his phenomenal talent.
The now 22-year-old showed an interest in drawing from an early age, and thanks to encouragement from his parents and teachers, he was able to build up an incredible skill-set during his teenage years.
Mike began uploading his work to Facebook four years ago and the images quickly gained a lot of interest online.
Since then, his drawings have been shared by thousands of fans across the world, and in the past year alone the young artists Instagram page, mikegibsonartwork, has gained over 30,000 followers.
So, how did Mike turn his hobby into a full time job? Hard work and dedication.
His advice to any young artists out there looking to further their career: ”Continue at it. Don’t be discouraged – there’s always going to be someone better than you.”
Always striving for bigger and better, Mike hopes to start utilising his YouTube channel more in the coming months, where he will post drawing time-lapses and the occasional Q&A.
Not giving away too much, he revealed that he is gearing up for some exciting collaborations in the near future.
One thing’s for sure, there’s a bright future ahead for this talented young artist.
