Ed Sheeran just did THE sweetest thing to help a sick fan

Ed Sheeran has melted our hearts yet again.

The singer is currently on the Australia/New Zealand leg of his world tour, and he stopped off at a hospital in between concerts to visit a very special fan.

Jess Knight bought tickets to Ed's Auckland concert last year, but she was diagnosed with leukaemia just two weeks later. Six months on, Jess is still finishing up treatment and recovering from a bone marrow transplant and unfortunately was unable to leave hospital to attend the show over the weekend.

The solution? Get Ed to the hospital, of course. A few weeks back, Jess and her friends started a social media campaign with the hashtag #KiaOraEdPlsVisitJess, in the hope of attracting the Thinking Out Loud singer's attention.

It worked, and true to form, Ed obliged and popped into Jess' hospital room over the weekend to help celebrate her 20th birthday with her friends.

Taking to Facebook to let everyone know the good news, Jess wrote, "You all helped make my birthday the best ever because guess what!? WE DID IT!!! Ed came and visited it! He was such a lovely guy! Really genuine and down to earth. I couldn't stop smiling! Thank you again! You will never know how much it meant to me!"

Could Ed be the soundest pop star on earth? We think so.
