‘Excuse of a man’ Caroline Aherne’s family slam ex over ABUSE claims
Just three months after the death of much-loved writer, actress and comedian Caroline Aherne, her ex-husband has come forward with claims that the star abused him over the course of their marriage.
In his new autobiography, Peter Hook of New Order and Joy Division fame has claimed that the star attacked him with knives and bottles during their three-year marriage in the mid-nineties.
"Yes, I loved her, yes, she could be very funny, and there were times I felt privileged to have a private audience with such a great comic talent," Peter wrote.
"But she was also a very troubled person and nowhere did that manifest itself more than in our relationship," he added.
Outraged by the allegations levelled at his late sister, Patrick Aherne has taken to social media to express his disgust over the musician's claims.
"I am so disgusted by the claims made by Peter Hook in most of the tabloids today. Hook was married to my sister over 20 years ago and they were divorced because the marriage did not work well." Peter wrote.
"What sort of man would make these claims after the death of Caroline? Is this because she is not here to defend herself? Why did it take Hook 20 years to make these claims?"
"R.I.P Caroline – the world knows you were an amazing woman. I do not think the world will be saying the same about the excuse of a man called Peter Hook," he finished.
Caroline died of throat cancer in July.
