Rather than dropping a week's wages on a 'sexy sailor' costume, keep it simple and use what you've already got in your wardrobe.
When you look this good, no-one has to know you literally planned your costume in five minutes flat. You can thank us later.

You'll need red gloves and anything black-and-white you have to hand – who DOESN'T have a two-tone fur stole in their wardrobe?
Wednesday Addams
Have a Peter-Pan collared dress at home? Plait your hair, put on your palest make-up and practice your most sullen face.
Party Animal
We love this costume tutorial from Lauren Conrad – get dressed up in your fanciest party wear and throw on some ears or antlers. Her pals went for more neutral 'party animal' looks but this would totally work with a black dress and heels, too.
Cute French Maid
You don't have to wear suspenders (unless you want to). A black dress with a white apron is pretty much all that's needed to complete this look.

A classic. Black dress, a cigarette holder, sunnies and DIAMONDS (or whatever sparkly jewellery you have to hand).
