Former Aston Villa player dies after being TASERED by police officers

Dalian Atkinson, who once played for Aston Villa, has died after being Tasered by police in the early hours of the morning.

It is understood that police were called to the home of the former Premier League star, who also played for Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa and Manchester City, after responding to an alert.

Arriving at the address in Telford at approximately 01.30, officers from West Mercia Police used a Taser gun on Dalian who ultimately went into cardiac arrest.
 

Despite receiving medical attention, the 48-year-old footballer was pronounced dead at 3am in a case which has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Taking to social media in the aftermath of Dalian's death, former colleagues have paid tribute to the Premier League player.

Ipswich Town FC expressed their condolences, writing: "Terribly sad news about our former striker. Our thoughts are with Dalian's family and friends at this tragic time," 

Echoing these sentiments, Sheffield Wednesday paid tribute to the footballer, writing: "The thoughts of everyone at Wednesday are with the friends and family of Dalian Atkinson this morning."

Issuing a statement on the matter, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman explained: "As he was being conveyed to Princess Royal Hospital, his condition deteriorated and he went into cardiac arrest"

"Despite the efforts of the crew and hospital staff, it was not possible to save him and he was confirmed dead at hospital, shortly after arrival," he confirmed.
