Four Irish men embark on journey across the Atlantic in aid of CUH

by

Four brave Irish men, dubbed the Relentless Rowers, will today start their journey across the Atlantic in an effort to raise much needed funds for Cork University Hospital.

Seán Underwood, Patrick O'Connor, Eóin O'Farrell and Thomas Browne will attempt to break a world record by rowing over 5,000 kilometres in under 35 days.

The lads will undertake the trek as part of the Taliser Whiskey Atlantic Challenge where they will compete in a race from La Gomera in the Canary's, to the Caribbean island of Antigua.

The team will face extreme conditions with raging seas, howling winds, sharks, blisters and salt rashes, sunstroke and sleep deprivation expected to take its toll.

One quarter of the Relentless Rowers, Thomas Browne, said: "It is about 5,000 kilometres and is going to take us hopefully less than 50 days.

For all those de-icing their cars this morning!

"We are also hoping to raise €20,000 for CUH to get two dialysis machines, we are currently on €18,000 so hopefully we will reach (the target).
