Fun Facts You May Not Know About The Zodiac Signs

People born under each sign inhibit general traits or characteristics which define that particular Zodiac sign. And we tend to be keen to know our probable future based on our Zodiac. While the predictions can be a hit or miss, it’s fun to read about what the future may hold.

But where did these Zodiacs come from? Originally, Babylonians created a mathematical approach, which in modern times is known as Astrology, to help predict weather and farming seasons.

This method was then adopted by other civilizations like the Greeks and later Arabs to make their own weather predictions. Many think that the zodiac signs are based on Greek gods, and powerful ones at that! Although mythology marred many versions of it throughout history, true astrology is very different.

Eventually, this practice had gained so much popularity that even kings and queens began to use it in their daily lives. The Egyptians also used the Zodiac signs as part of their Lunar Calendar.

Soon the Zodiac signs were incorporated into Astrology in order to understand the science of the stars and wider universe.

Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18)
The word itself has ‘aqua’ in it. Surely it must be the water Zodiac? This is a common myth among people. The Aquarius’ sign is actually air. Women born under Aquarius signs are known to be in their own dreamland.

They are passionate, brilliant and witty in nature but can also lack empathy and patience. Due to the quirky and airy nature of Aquarius, they are known for being creative and somewhat distant from reality.

The Hippie Movement of the ’70s is also called The Age of Aquarius.

Pisces (Feb 19-March 20)
Symbolized by two fishes, the Pisces sign is the actual Zodiac which represents the element of water. Pisces are creative, passionate and extremely talented in their work.

Pisces women, in particular, can be intuitive and empathetic. However, their need to put others first is also their downfall as they trust people too much.

In Greek mythology, Pisces is associated with the Goddess Athena. Unlike other gods, Athena literally was born from Zeus’ head. She sprang from his massive migraine, fully grown and ready to fight.

Not only was she the Goddess of War like her brother Ares, but she was also the one in charge of wisdom, mathematics, courage, and civilization. Oh, and she was also Zeus’ favorite child.

Aries (March 21-April 19)
Aries women are not easy to tame. They are fierce, independent and free-spirited. In the old calendars and even by modern standards, Aries is the Zodiac sign which kicks off the months of spring. Hence, it is technically the first Zodiac sign.

Due to the competitive nature of Aries, the sign is linked with the Greek God of War, Ares. Even though the god was known for violence and war, he was also famous for his love affair with Aphrodite.

He certainly passed on his traits to all the Aries out there!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Taurus women are characterized to be extremely beautiful and somewhat free-spirited when it comes to sexual needs. Ruled by Ares’ girlfriend Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, Taurus women are passionate and love unconditionally.

On the downside, Tauruses are extremely possessive and jealous. Aphrodite herself was known to be an extremely jealous person.

Her jealousy caused many wars to take place including the famous Trojan War. So scorning a Taurus may just not be the best thing to do.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Gemini women can either be eternally optimistic or a party pooper who is always in melancholy. They are always in two minds, unable to decide what to choose.

They love to travel and keep themselves busy yet at the same time, they cannot decide on one plan. They need specific guidelines and being vague with them only increases their confusion.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Women born under the Cancer sign can seem snobbish, stubborn and aloof. Earning their loyalty is a long journey but once she trusts someone, she will be loyal for life.

They are ruled by their feelings and hence are terrible at hiding their thoughts. If a Cancer is angry, everyone will know it by her expression alone.

In Greek myths, Cancer is attributed to Goddess Hera. Hera was known for her temper but was also gentle and protective when she needed to be. While she loved her own children, she would not hesitate to toss her enemies off the grid either!

The reason why Cancer sign is a crab is because she sent a crab to bite her half-son Hercules while he was duelling Hydra.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)
The maiden sign, Virgo, represents loyalty. Virgo women are extremely hardworking and loyal to a fault. They are observant and practical. However, they can also lack self-esteem and rarely enjoy life.

In Greek myth, the sign Virgo is associated with Persephone, the doomed queen of the Underworld. When Hades kidnaps her, her mother tried to bring her back.

Torn between her love for Hades and her mother, Persephone was unable to decide her own fate. As a result, she has to spend half the month year with her mother and the other half with Hades in the Underworld.

Libra (September 23-October 22)
Libra women are adventurous and playful. They are up for a dare any day! The gemstone associated with Libra is smokey quartz which represents the restless nature of Libra.

They always need to be in action and on the run.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
Scorpio has always been seen in a negative light by astrologers for being too evil and dark. In reality, Scorpio women are just intense about their feelings. They are charismatic and give off an aura of elegance.

Despite the negativity surrounding Scorpio, they are resilient. They are represented by the animal Scorpion, which is known to sting itself to death. They are also represented by the Eagle, which is known to never back down from a fight.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
Sagittarius women are extremely honest, confident and ooze magnetism. They are easy-going and can easily move on. Their charm sure can melt everyone’s hearts!

However, they can be too energetic. They get bored easily and in their haste to move forward, can end up hurting others.

Capricorn (December 21-January 19)
Capricorn women possess wisdom and are extremely resourceful. They have rough exteriors but are a softie at heart. Females born under the Capricorn sign are true to their beliefs and prefer to stay at home rather than venture out.

However, they can be easily misunderstood due to their stoic expressions. They find it difficult to communicate. A little smile once in a while may make people feel more relaxed around them.
