Happy birthday Friends! 21 years later they still give us ‘squad goals’
21 years ago today, the very first episode of Friends appeared on TV screens. The sitcom went on for 10 more years and became one of the most-loved sitcoms ever.
We could never decide which of the six friends we would want to be our own BFF, to be honest we kind of just wanted to be friends with them all. As it turns out, most Irish women want to be best friends with not Monica, Rachel or Phoebe but Amy Huberman takes the top spot.
A survey from One4all has revealed that when it comes to who Irish men want to be besties with, funny man Chris O’Dowd takes the top spot. So apparently being funny is still how some of the best friendships are made, Chandler would be relieved we imagine.
Meanwhile, the Friends cast still come out on top when it comes to ‘Friendship Goals’.
Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox were voted the ultimate celebrity friends. The on-screen/off-screen besties have been friends for over 20 years. Most recently Courtney acted as maid of honour at Jennifer’s wedding while Jen is also godmother to Courtney’s daughter, Coco.
Being godparent for a best friend’s child was reported as a highlight of their friendship for 25 per cent of the women surveyed. Being asked to be best man was the proudest moment for 19 per cent of the men.
When it comes to special occasions, almost half of those women surveyed said they would spend between €25 and €50 on a gift for their friends but a third of men would spend between €1 and €25.
Interestingly, almost a third of Irish adults said they count more than five people among their closest group of friends, sounds familiar, yes?
