‘It was horrible’ Chelsy Davy spills the deets on Prince Harry romance
If Disney movies have taught us anything, it's that a relationship with a handsome prince is something every girl should aspire towards, but it seems reality is very, very different.
Opening up about the seven-year relationship she shared with Prince Harry, Chelsy Davy admits that she found it incredibly difficult to deal with the media intrusion and paparazzi attention that went hand-in-hand with a royal romance.
"I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible," she told The Times during an interview which dealt with her time in the spotlight and the effect her 'party girl' rep had on her.
30-year-old Chelsy, who qualified as a solicitor and currently promotes an ethical jewellery brand, admitted that the romance was far from the fairytale many of us would imagine.
Reflecting on the times she was chased by photographers desperate for a snap of the young couple, Chelsy said: "It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable. I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn't cope."
Chelsy, who met Prince Harry in 2004, eventually called time on the relationship in 2011 before returning to her native Zimbabwe, saying: "It was nuts. That's also why I wanted to go back to Africa. Now it's calm, it's fine."
Despite rumours that the pair may be reconciling, Chelsy insists she and Harry are simply on good terms and says she'll always 'be good friends' with the royal.
