Jane Krakowski dropped a MAJOR Friends bombshell last night

Friends may have ended a whole decade ago, but fans still love re-imagining alternative endings and outcomes for the sitcom's six lead characters.

One change we're glad never came to pass though is a version of Friends WITHOUT Jennifer Aniston.

The 46-year-old actress started playing the role of Rachel Green in her mid-twenties, and while she has gone on to do plenty of film work since, it's still her most memorable part.

But last night actress Jane Krakowski revealed that it could have been her in the beloved role if things had gone a little differently.

"I, like almost every actor in the world, auditioned for Friends," Jane told E!'s Giuliana Rancic on the Emmys red carpet.

"I wish I had gotten that one. I actually auditioned for Rachel and didn't go very far."

Friends kicked off in 1994 and ran for ten years, finally ending in May 2004. With a starting salary of €20,000 per episode that soared to €890,000 per episode for each lead cast member for the final two seasons, it was certainly a gold mine in terms of TV roles.

Luckily for Jane, her big break came along just a few years later, when she landed a part in Ally McBeal as office assistant Elaine Vassal.

She later went on to play vapid actress Jenna in Tina Fey's 30 Rock, and is currently starring in the hit Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt alongside Ellie Kemper.

All the same, Jane admitted her manager was "very sad" that she failed to swing that Friends role. Yup, we would be too.
