Love Island’s Joey Essex & Jessy Potts announce they have split
Another couple from this summer’s series of Love Island has called it quits.
Seven weeks after leaving the Love Island villa, Joey Essex and Jessy Potts have announced that their relationship has come to an end.
The couple, who first met on the series when Jessy entered the villa as a bombshell, recently chose to share statements to confirm their breakup.
In an interview with The Sun, Joey stated that their pair’s split was an amicable one.
"Unfortunately, we have decided to call an end to the relationship but I hope we can continue to be friends,” he explained.
"I truly wish Jessy the very best with whatever she does in the future,” the 34-year-old continued.
Jessy then went on to add her own thoughts to Joey’s statement, as she praised fans for their support.
"I appreciate the Love Island experience I had with Joey, we tried to make it work but it wasn’t to be,” she admitted.
"I’m so grateful to everyone who supported us and look forward to all of the exciting opportunities ahead,” the 25-year-old concluded.
Split rumours had plagued Joey and Jessy ever since they left the villa, with sources claiming that Joey’s busy schedule meant that the couple rarely got to spend time together.
However, Joey and Jessy are not the first major couple from this summer’s series to call time on their romance.
On August 28, finalists Matilda Draper and Sean Stone announced that they had decided to split.
At the time, the reality stars took to their Instagram accounts to share identical statements on the matter.
“Just wanted to come on here to tell you guys that Sean and I have decided to part ways,” Matilda wrote on her Instagram stories.
“We are still good friends & I’m so grateful to have shared such an incredible experience with him. We appreciate all of your support throughout our time together and all the love you have shown us. Love you all,” she added.
